About this property

Rural Holiday Cottage with Wonderful Countryside Views on Friendly Smallholding.

We converted Golden Square Cottage from an old dairy. The cottage was designed to make the most of the amazing views from our hill top position. The view from the bedrooms and the large private deck are really special.

The cottage is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage is in a great location for walking and exploring the Blackdown Hills and the Jurassic Coast is within easy reach for great days on the seafront.

Finished to a high standard, with every detail carefully thought out. We've tried to be as environmentally friendly as possible, installing solar panels to provide hot water, using responsibly sourced wood for the windows and doors made by a local craftsman, and using eco friendly paints and finishings wherever possible. As even rural areas are moving with the times we now have a Fibre Broadband connection at the cottage.

Excellent cottage stay
The cottage is really nice and cosy, feels like home. Stunning view over the hills and village, looks like a Christmas card scene with light fog and smoke from a nearby house. Brilliant log fire. The hosts were really friendly. Perfect experience.

Fantastic stay, excellent hosts and beautiful cottage
We had a fantastic stay, the hosts greeted us on arrival which was lovely. The cottage had everything we needed and plenty big enough for a family of four. The beds were very comfy, the whole place was spotless. Thank you 😊 also for helping with the little “incident” with the dog. We will definitely be back. Thank you again

We always wanted to grow our own fruit and veg and and to have a few more trees than big red buses to look at, so we're really pleased to have made the move from the big smoke.

In our first year here we did up the house and converted the old dairy into the lovely holiday cottage it now is. Now that the building work is over, we can concentrate on developing the smallholding to provide as much of our own food and fuel as possible.

We have two children, so know all about the great local family attractions and we're happy to help with information if you need it.

We love the slower pace of life, the great local food and the friendly welcome in East Devon so we hope we can share some of this great way of life with our visitors.

Why they chose this property

We love the slower pace of life, the great local food, and the friendly vibe in East Devon, and we hope we can share some of our bit of heaven with our guests.

We chose a place that is easy enough to get to for our friends and family, but with the peace and quiet that comes with our lovely rural location. A short 20 minute hop to the beach too where you can hunt for fossils along the Jurassic Coast, and life is complete!

Stockland village is really active, with events running all year and the village pub The Kings Arms has just reopened after and extensive refit and great for a drink or try there new menu.

There are great walks in the Blackdown Hills AONB from the door step or from the local village pubs.

A Gas BBQ is provided (we also have a charcoal BBQ if you prefer) on the decking area, along with a home made picnic bench in the orchard below the deck. Enjoy exploring our woodlands and the common land that adjoins our farm, where you can look out for the deer, badgers and owls that live there.

The cottage is really cosy in the winter with full central heating and a wood fired stove in the living room to make it very toasty.

At Christmas the cottage is decorated with a locally grown Christmas tree to give it a festive feel.

What makes this property unique

Easy access to the Jurassic coast beaches and the South West Coast Path. All sorts of great foodie experiences to be had, with a plethora of farmers markets, great restaurants and pubs nearby including the Stockland village pub.

We run a smallholding, so you are welcome to spend some time with us helping to feed the animals and collect the eggs. Our small flock of friendly Shetland sheep are in our field and sometimes in the orchard below the cottage to keep the grass down. We have three Pigmy Goats that have moved onto the orchard that love a tickle. The chicken generally free range around the farm and can be seen roaming around looking for snacks. Guests are free to roam around our field and woodland looking for the amazing wildlife. Our woodland backs on to the common land, with footpaths to explore. We can show you the best spot for badger watching, where you'll also see deer, owls and other great wildlife.

We are 20 minutes from the famous seaside town of Lyme Regis, with its historic cob and great pubs and restaurants, including the renowned Hix Oyster and Fish House, the Lyme Regis Town Mill and many other attractions.
Also close at hand and within an easy half hour drive are Sidmouth, Seaton, Branscombe and Beer. Beer is our family favourite, with great cafes on the beach itself, top notch rock-pooling and a lovely little high street to stroll along.
The Jurassic Coast which runs from West Dorset to East Devon is one of our favourite destinations to visit with each part different from the next and all within easy reach. All the sea-side towns above make great places to start your exploration and are connected by the South West Coast Path.
