Cortijo Prado Toro is located in the Natural Park of the Alpujarras, southern slope of the Sierra Nevada National Park at an altitude of 1450 m. In the accessed by a logging road about 2 km and is located at 10 min. Pitres municipalities, Bubion and Capileira. It is oriented to the south with wide panoramic, getting to see the sea and the mountains of Africa on a clear day. In the area there is a lot of walking routes.
The construction of the farmhouse is recent, but the style keeps rigorously alpujarreño stone and wood. The interiors of the various studios, houses, and apartments are furnished tastefully and simply decorated in traditional style. Arranged together so that give total privacy and independence to guests.
We've now been to the area several times and stayed in a few different places, and this is the best there is. The owner Ludet is always on hand and keen to see that everything is to your liking, and with his advice we found several hikes that we would never have found on our own, or with any of the usual walking books. We've now stayed in 2 of the 4 or 5 different apartments and both were very well equipped
As one of a few very lovely places, this has to be one of the loveliest - fabulous for relaxation and recreation. This outstripped our expectations, even with the great description. All facilities are kept very clean and fresh.
Cortijo Prado Toro is very peaceful and the setting and elegant buildings have been lovingly
and tastefully designed affording almost total privacy and unenforced encounters with other guest (very limited numbers) so that you feel that you have free run of the pool, gardens. there is also easy mountain walking with fabulous views.
We all enjoyed it as an adult family of four and without being disturbed by younger families or other, single guests.
Cortijo Orado Toro is easily reached, nestling in its own valley and water sources and providing an excellent base to visit villages nearby, cultural sites as well as beaches.
Every effort is made by the owner to provide a warm and generous welcome. It would be hard to recommend this place more highly.
1. Wonderfully positioned on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada
2. inviting for walks in one of the most awesome landscapes of Europe
3. Extremely welcoming thanks to the efforts of the owner
4. Soothing and relaxing environment
It's hard to describe this place. Our week's stay in the El Patio apartment here was relaxing, beautiful, peaceful - it was brilliant. The position of the property is just incredible, with beautiful views all around. It feels like you're on top of the world. It's also just off a pleasant walking route and it's fairly easy to walk into a few of the nearby Alpujarran towns, such as Pitres, Mecina, Bubion and Capileira.
The property is built in the traditional local style. Unfortunately we arrived in thick cloud, which meant the traditional interior felt a little dark and cold. Thankfully, the rest of the week was full sunshine and that brought out the best in the property - it is completely charming and very well designed so that the hot sunshine doesn't overheat the property. With its huge fireplace, it would also be very cosy in winter. The swimming pool is great and the area around it is lovely just to sit around and relax. There's also some more serious trekking that can be done in the area.
The review wouldn't be complete without a word on the host, Ludet, who also lives on and built the property, as well as being a master carpenter. He is incredibly welcoming, friendly and interesting and knows the local area back to front. His advice on local towns and restaurants etc. was spot on. Also, be sure to follow his walking recommendations. The walk from the Cortijo along the old water channel is beautiful and Ludet will be able to recommend as many fantastic walks as you could possibly want to do.
We visited in 16th - 23rd May, so this review is somewhat belated, but heartfelt nonetheless. What a spectacular bolt hole, tucked away in the forests of a national park in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and and at the heart of the Alpujarras villages. You'll need a reasonable vehicle to get up the track the to property which is about 2 km form the road. The property is a beautfully constructed, stone ( a bit like welsh slate) villa/house which is the home of Ludet, our wonderful host. Prado Toro discreetly houses 4 or 5 apartments, though you would hardly know it, such is the privacy afforded each one. Ours was a large, spacious apartment, big, well equipped kitchen and a very large sitting room, in which our bedroom was also located, screened off by a beautiful, wooden latticework screen. The terrace is the perfect spot for an end of day glass of wine and has spectacular views across the valley. From Prado Toro, we were able to visit all the villages in the Alpujarras and go on a variety of short and longer walks - Ludet was amazing, helping us with maps and guides and his local knowledge of the area and we did quite a few walks straight from the house. The local supermarket, chemist etc in Pitres are excellent, important as you will be self catering. Ludet was a charming and helpful host - it was hard to to tear ourselves away at the end of our stay and we will definitely visit again.
We've just returned from a perfect holiday in Prado Toro. The apartment, El Patio, was beautifully furnished with everything we needed, including a lovely shady courtyard. The Cortijo itself is magnificent, with beautifully gardened grounds from which you can walk straight out onto the hillside. Swimming in the pool was like swimming on top of the world! We loved the surrounding area - lots of amazing walks. Ludwig was not only very friendly and welcoming but was a great source of information about walks and the local area and also provided us with useful maps and guidebooks (in English - presumably he has them in all languages!). We'll definitely be back - probably June or September/October when it's sunny but cool enough for walking (we've stayed once before in August and had a lovely time but did find it a bit too hot).
Cortijo Prado Toro is situated in the Natural Park of the Alpujarras,on the southern slopes of the National Park of the Sierra Nevada, Spain's highest and most dramatic mountain range in the province of Granada. The Cortijo (country house) faces towards the Mediterranean at an altitude of 1450m, opening up breathtaking views of unspoilt natural countryside and on clear days even extending to the Rif mountains of North Africa.
Cortijo Prado Toro is a delightful quiet place set amidst stunning countryside. Hidden courtyards and patios provide sanctuaries of shade and greenery, whilst secluded terraced corners offer privacy in the sun. Weeping branches of mature willow trees form bowers of tranquility, and the gentle murmur of a spring or fountain never seems far away. Only the muted clanging of distant goat bells is likely to disturb the silence of this quiet mountain retreat.
The architecture of the buildings, designed and restored with the help of Donald Gray (an eminence in traditional Andalucian architecture),is in the traditional Alpujarran style with much care taken on the detail. The individually designed and decorated apartments of the Cortijo Prado Toro, all furnished to a high standard, combine simplicity and luxury with elegance from another era.
