The White House stands at the entrance to the yard. It is light and bright, with south-facing windows making the most of the sweeping views down the valley. Touches such as copper guttering and oak doors add distinction to its simple white exterior. Inside, the clean modern lines of the rooms are enhanced by sparkling white walls, sleek Welsh slate floors and golden oak doors. The mix of contemporary and vintage furniture combine 21st century style with a retro twist. In the living room a woodburner supplements the underfloor heating, and there is wifi, TV and DVD, radio, CD player with i-pod dock, a selection of board games and loads of books. One double bedroom shares the upper floor with its own luxury bathroom and has views south across the Usk Valley. The two downstairs bedrooms look south and west over the garden to the hills; these two bedrooms share a wetroom. There is a pretty, enclosed south-facing garden - sit out in the sun, relax and enjoy the views!
The White House (book with The Old Barn for groups of up to 12)
Porth-y-Parc is a 35-acre organic smallholding in the heart of the Black Mountains, within the Brecon Beacons National Park. It combines seclusion with convenience, halfway up Sugar Loaf mountain yet with easy access to Abergavenny and all the sights of the area. A footpath runs through the yard, leading up Sugar Loaf and into the Black Mountains.
The Old Barn stands on its own at the end of the yard looking up the mountain. The White House is at the entrance to the farm facing down the valley towards the town.
Inside, The Old Barn is a stylish mix of old and new with contemporary designer furniture and lighting alongside traditional oak beams and antiques, while The White House is sleek and modern with white walls, Welsh slate floors and retro mid-twentieth century furniture. Both kitchens are very well equipped, reflecting our love of good food and cooking - eggs from our hens and a homemade cake are part of the package, and home-reared lamb is available on request. Both properties have underfloor heating powered by air source heat pumps, and woodburners in the living rooms - wood is included.
All the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with natural feather and down duvets and pillows and 100% cotton bed linen and towels. There is ample space in both houses for keeping all your outdoor gear, and outside are totally private sunny seating areas for relaxing and drinking in the views. All in all The Old Barn and The White House are spacious, stylish, comfortable and environmentally-friendly holiday homes from which to explore the glorious sights and scenery of the Brecon Beacons and South Wales.
Larger groups might want to book both properties for a special celebration or shared holiday. The extending dining table in the barn seats 12 comfortably, and there is ample cutlery, crockery, seating etc. A glorious spot for a memorable occasion!
