The villa is approached along a 700m track from the road through citrus groves and is situated in its own 3 acres. Gardens front and rear plus mature carob and olive trees and other Algarve wild flora. Large driveway with parking for several cars. The 10x5m pool and children's paddling pool are located on the back terrace and are fenced for child safety. Pool heating can be arranged at extra cost. The house is decorated with numerous pieces of hand painted Algarve pottery and tiling. From the front veranda there are far reaching views to the Monchique mountains and the Moorish Silves castle which is illuminated at night. On a clear Algarve night this, together with the moon and the star studded skies, is a sight to behold. Silves has many restaurants and cafes and a large supermarket for all your supplies. There are various local places of interest both within the town aond on the river. There are a number of sandy beaches within easy reach, the nearest being a 20 minute drive.

About Laura Bartlett
We are a retired couple who have enjoyed many wonderful holidays at Quinta do Sapo with friends and family.
Laura Bartlett purchased this Villa in 1995
Why Laura Bartlett chose Silves
We built the house in this beautiful rural area because we like to be away from the busy coastal area but within a short drive of beaches, shops etc.
Pool / Spa
Wonderful spacious villa with great views and facilities
Our first view of this villa was very impressive as we approached it along a farm track from the road, which winds through a small holding (with very friendly people, multiple cats, dogs and ducks) before leading to orange groves. The villa is situated a little further on at the top of a hill. This is a perfect position providing lovely views from the perimeter of the property.
The front of the property has some steep(ish) steps up to the front door, but most people with reasonable fitness should have no problem with them. There is also a small terrace leading from the living room where you can sit if required, however there are other outside options!
The main hallway is spacious with steps leading up to a large double bedroom complete with on-suite. On the ground floor are two double bedrooms and a children's room which sleeps up to 4 people (2 single beds and 2 bunk beds). Plenty of wardrobe space in all.
The living room is very homely and comfortable, complete with a dining table and satellite TV. We were there during Wimbledon and the World Cup so it was good to keep an eye on matches.
There is a good sized kitchen which leads to the main outside space, complete with table and chairs, sunbeds and a good sized swimming pool (fenced off in case you have young children). There is also a BBQ area , which we made good use of. There is also ample shade to avoid the sun during the heat of the day.
This villa provided a wonderful base to explore this beautiful part of Portugal. Silves is only a short drive away and we used the recommendations provided by the owners for restaurants, particularly Cafe De Ingles outside Silves Castle which provides a very authentic experience complete with live music. Another great option is Restaurante O Barradas (slightly more expensive but in a perfect garden setting with live music).
The beaches in the area are also stunning, with impressive rock formations. Be warned, the sea is very cold, even in the height of summer, but offers a great cool down from the heat if you are brave. We did a boat trip along the coast to see the caves, a must if you have time.
So in summary, this was a wonderful place to stay with lots of places to explore and I'd recommend it to anyone. One of the nicest villas I've stayed in. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased you had a wonderful holiday and loved the villa and area as much as we do.
April in Portugal
If it's seclusion you want, then this is it. My wife and I have often stayed in and around Silves and have watched it develop over the years. It's the real Portugal, but does cater nicely for tourists.
The villa was quite immaculate and very well provided. The manager and his wife were very accommodating with our arrival and departure times.
The secured pool area consisted of a shower, a baby pool and main pool 10 x 6m. Not overlooked being on a hill.
The TV had BBC1 and ITV plus other channels from the satellite. Lots of DVDs provided and a sound system suitable for even the deaf.
The fun part of the villa was the access track. Laura did mention that was a little rough. It was. All the best villas have rugged access and this was a beaut. We laughed every time we drove over it.
We weren't trouble by biting insects or mossies'. The only pain in the neck were the dogs across the valley. But that is Portugal and Spain. The dogs are guard dogs, or hunting dogs and do like to communicate to each other at night. Bring some good ear plugs.
Fully recommend this villa, you won't be disappointed

Lovely villa in peaceful setting
Very enjoyable stay. Villa beautifully set and very well equipped. A real home. 4 generations of our family enjoyed a lovely peaceful week. Weather great for the pool second week of April. Would recomend Lagos and Monchique as day trips. Nice castle in Silves 5 minutes. Nearest beach carviero (sp?) about 20 minutes drive
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back in the future.
Fantastic villa in the hills
We stayed at the villa in August for just under 2 weeks and had a brilliant time. The whole family - from the youngest to the oldest - enjoyed their stay and were very sad to leave.
From the start, the owner was very quick and responsive when booking which made the process extremely easy. No question was too much trouble.
We were a group of 7 and the villa was extremely spacious. We hired a 9-seat minibus from the airport and were at the villa in approx 1 hour. The journey up the track from the main road took about 5 mins, however it was relatively easy even in the minibus. It helped that the directions provided were easy to follow and accurate.
On arrival, it was spotless both inside and outside and matched the description given on this site. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is the added bonus of the large BBQ outside.
Our children miss the pool the most, which was clean and very warm (without heating). The small separate paddling pool was perfect for our youngest to splash around in and he spent hours in it. The fence around the pool enabled us to securely close the pool area off when not in use but still allow them to play outside safely.
Graham, the villa manager, was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. He was easy to contact and very responsive - I sent him a text with a question and he phoned us back within 30 seconds!
When not swimming in the pool, it was quick and easy to get to the local beaches, Slide and Splash (from memory, about 20-30 mins drive), Lagos, and all the major attractions.
As the van hire we had didn't include an electronic toll device, we stayed off the A22 toll road and didn't have any problems with traffic - the non-toll road from the airport was easy to follow and the local attractions didn't require the use of the toll road.
We ate out on one night and would recommend Restaurante O Barradas which is on the outskirts of Silves. As it was a hot, clear night, the outside eating area was amazing and they were very welcoming of children.
In summary, we really enjoyed our stay in this Villa and would highly recommend it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time at the villa so much and really made the most of the area. We hope we can welcome you back again!
One word.... Heaven.
We have just returned home today from a 2 week stay at Quinta Do Sapo and I can't rave this place enough. From the moment we arrived the secluded and peaceful location was for us just the ticket.
Easy to find and on a dirt track the villa has amazing views to Silves and the surrounding hills and orange groves. The villa itself is just lovely, comfort is high up on the owners priority and you can tell, the lounge has extremely comfy sofa's and the bed we slept in (Master bedroom) was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, the mattress was amazing. My parents who came with us also said that their bed was just as good.
The villa is well equipped with everything that you would need and more, a great home from home although I'm going to miss the dish washer !!
The pool was just fantastic, we didn't pay extra for it heated but as the weather was good it was really warm and as it had a cover which we pulled on every night it kept it lovely and warm. It had a small child's pool which although we didn't have any it would be great for the kids. The area was equipped with loads of sun loungers and a table and chairs for eating out. Lots of lovely shaded areas too. Bliss
BBQ, amazing. We mostly ate in and used this almost every night. My partner has become a dab had at them and I'm going to miss him cooking every night lol
Graham the owners villa manager was really good too, we had a problem with the water during our stay and the next day he got someone in and got it fixed that day, nothing was too much trouble for him and he was a mind of information about the local area. Laura the owners daughter was great too, the booking was smooth and all the details that we were sent were thorough and detailed which was fantastic and any questions we had she answered really fast, it was extremely problem and worry free.
Silves is a lovely town with lots of nice cobbled streets with good restaurants and shops. The castle is worth a visit too, very interesting and cost around 3 euros. The town has 2 large supermarkets, Lidl was where we shopped and stocks everything that you will need, but the other which is further in the town has British named products if that's what you want.
We're all really depressed at returning home, but we all agreed that this holiday has been one of the most relaxing we have ever had and it's due to staying in one of the nicest villa's we have ever stayed in. I hope that we can return one day.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We are so pleased you enjoyed all that our special villa and the area has to offer and would love to welcome you back in the future.
If your ideal holiday is somewhere totally secluded, the only sounds you hear are nature’s own, with spacious and comfortable accommodation including a swimming pool which is the perfect size for actual swimming, then this is absolutely the place to visit.
Quinta do Sapo is furnished tastefully throughout. Plenty of comfortable furniture is to be found in the lounge where you can view the TV with the addition of surround sound. A large dining table with sufficient seating for the size of the villa is provided. Crockery, glassware, cutlery, cooking utensils are plentiful. The large kitchen has everything to hand, including a washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. Bedrooms have vast amounts of storage plus extremely comfortable beds. All the views are stunning and you can see for miles. Two bathrooms plus an extra toilet are fully equipped and provide the villa with ample amenities. The manager ensures the villa/pool are clean and well maintained, and is easily contacted if required.
Outside stands a large barbecue; for once we don’t have to stoop over the food while cooking as the grill is quite high off the ground. A light is conveniently mounted close by for those warm evening gatherings.
The large swimming pool is a huge feature to this idyllic retreat, offering heating if required. A smaller, shallow pool is an added bonus for those with young children. Mesh panels surround the pool for added safety. Sun loungers around the pool give excellent relaxation - to soak up the rays, or to rest in the shade. Due to the villa’s superb location, the sun remains from dawn to dusk, yet shaded areas can be found throughout. For those who want to access the internet, free WiFi is available with good reception in and around the villa.
A car is essential as the villa is situated quite literally in the middle of nowhere. However, supermarkets and the city of Silves are only a short drive away where most provisions required can be found. The motorway is easily accessed leading to many towns and beaches plus water parks, pottery shops, restaurants etc.
I thoroughly recommend this villa if you insist on privacy and tranquillity while having a fully equipped and spacious house with a wonderful private pool to cool off in. Visitors must be happy to drive everywhere as there is nothing within walking distance.
My family and I have visited this fabulous villa on many occasions, and plan to continue doing so.
