Why lisa borrowdale Philip Hayden chose Eskdale
We fell in love with The Lake District many years ago and it was a dream to have a property here. Little did we know that we would make it happen in our 30's. Eskdale is the most beautiful, peaceful location you could hope to live in and this makes it a special retreat for holiday makers. We are surrounded by the Lakeland fells and yet far from the madding crowd. Climb a different mountain every day, amble along the river and seek refreshments in one of 4 lovely local pubs or spend the day in our mature riverside south facing gardens.
What makes this Chalet unique
The Chalets can provide you with high quality, four-star, holiday cottages in Eskdale. We have 4 cottages, close to the village of Boot. Each Cottage has two bedrooms and is spacious and beautifully furnished. Set in large, mature riverside gardens on the banks of the river Esk. One chalet is able to accommodate a very well behaved house trained dog. The large living/dining area is a great family space. Books, DVD’s, games and magazines, comfy sofas, discrete lighting and an LCD TV with DVD player make the living room is cosy and homely. The fully equipped kitchen provides you with everything you need to cater for yourselves on holiday, whether it is cheese on toast or a full Sunday roast. BBQ, bike hire, washing machine, tumble drier and drying room.

No peace and quiet here!
Next door to these chalets is a very big house/ hostel unsupervised. Large noisy groups of all ages stay here with no manager or staff on site, they can use the chalets gardens, 6 male adults and 5 children started arowdy football match below our balcony, dragging out dining chairs for goal posts which they left out all night in the rain. They were swearing and had two staffies off their leads charging around, add the very loud music late into the night, it was horrendous. Dont come here to relax! We are waiting for a refund. We left early as we had wanted a relaxing few days at the lakes and we had travelled a 250 mile round trip and were very dissapointed. The chalet and gardens are lovely but the neighbours are not and the chalet owners have had lots of trouble with them, stag and hen do's. We were even told by the owners mum (pat), if you want peace and quiet come in the week! As the weekends are noisey and she has had to go up to the house and complain many times. We left very upset. and are still waiting to speak to Lisa and Phil, the owners.A phone message and e-mail have not been replied to.
We are sorry to hear that you object to some dad's playing football with their children. I am afraid I cannot comment on the swearing as I did not hear any, you also paint a rather bleak image of The Chalets when you have only been here for 2 nights. I will let all our other reviews speak for themselves and hope that people can see, this review is in no way a good description of our business. We have many repeat customers some of whom come 4 times per year and have become great friends of ours. Much of the information in this review is simply not a true reflection of what you should expect at The Chalets. I would ask that future readers of this review read all our other reviews before they dismiss our accommodation. I hope that the writers of this review are happy with their refund and enjoy future holidays.

Lovely property in a great location and fantasic hosts
We stayed for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The chalets are beautifully presented, well equipped and cosy, and in a great location with a fantastic waterfall walk right from the door and a couple of great pubs a short stroll away. The La'al Ratty train line right outside the door is a must do. Our hosts were brilliant and a special mention must go to Lisa who went above and beyond to assist us after we suffered a puncture on the way in. All in all highly recommended and we hope to return
Great location, beautiful garden with barbecue and outdoor facilities
We used this as our base for a walking holiday, and it worked out well with great local walks and bigger walks on the fells as you would expect in the Lakes also close by. The train trip to Ravenglass from across the road is a great day out.
We really enjoyed our stay cottage very cosy, clean and warm,In a quiet area which we love
really enjoyed our stay
This is our fourth year at The Chalets and we will be back again next year. They are well equipped, with lovely grounds and very welcoming owners. Ideally situated for walking through Eskdale, five minutes walk to La’l Ratty (the steam railway) and ten minutes walk to two great pubs.
Modern, clean and tidy. Beautiful views and lovely gardens. Great for families.
Stayed here twice now and will definitely use again. Friendly welcome, stunning surroundings, walking distance of two good pubs with great food, and to the village shop (not much food provision) with lovely ice cream. Boot (nearest village) also has a small and charming Mill museum. Worth a visit. Walks directly from the Chalets include flat Eskdale trail following the river (can even go one way on the little stream train), numerous local waterfalls, longer walks up to the many nearby fells and tarns (and even Sca Fell) and the Roman Fort at Hardnott Pass (a third pub in this direction slightly further along the river from Boot). The gardens themselves offer space to play, eat out and barbq. Property also offers drying space in the boot room. You can easily stay here for a week without moving the car but if you do venture out Wastwater is stunning (20 minutes) and Keswick is the nicest of the towns in the Lakes (40 minutes). Whinlatter Forest on Derwent Water (near Keswick) offers mountain bike trails and good walking trails with fun activities for kids. Westlakes Adventures based at Boot, close to the Chalets also offer paddle boarding, kayaking and gill climbing.
We are just 15 minutes away from the beautiful sandy beaches of Cumbria’s West Coast.
We can be accessed by car using the A595 from North or South.
Or by train taking a mainline train to Ravenglass. From here we can collect you, or you can take the La’al Ratty steam train to Beckfoot Halt station and then a 30 seconds walk!
We are 10 minutes walk from Boot Village. 5 minutes drive from Eskdale Green. You can access all areas of the Lake District from these popular holiday cottages. Most of the areas can be reached within an hours drive. Beatrix Potter’s cottage; Mountain bike on the forest tracks at Grizedale; Shop in Ambleside, boats trips on Windermere and Coniston Water, Visit Wordsworth's Cottage in Grasmere, Keswick, South Lakeland Wild Animal park and of course the beautiful beaches on the West coast.
