About Laura Dewsnap
We are a family run business which consists of myself Mark, my wife Nina, my mother in-law Liesa, brother in-law Ross & his wife Laura. We want our guests to have the best possible holiday experience in Asnières and for our guests to experience the laid back easy going lifestyle Asnières has to offer. We moved to France in 2006 and have never looked back. Asnières is a small peace of heaven and after a day of moving here we felt like it was home. We love being part of the village community and life is often hectic but we wouldn't change it for the world. As well as running our gite and cafe business we have recently restored our beloved manoir back to its former glory and now run 4 chambres dhotes.
Laura Dewsnap purchased this Bungalow in 2006
Why Laura Dewsnap chose Sarthe
While we were living in the UK we decided to combine Nina's birthday and looking for a property in France. We looked all over France from small holiday homes to chateaux but when we came to Asnieres the pure beauty and charm of the village won us all over instantly. We all enjoy being out in the countryside and also we know we don't have to go to far for life's everyday essentials.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Our gites are on the same grounds as a 15th century Manoir house with superb gardens, stunning views across the river Vegre and most of all privacy. There is also nothing better than at the end of the day to sit in the garden or at the pool with a nice glass of wine and a BBQ.

A wonderful experience from start to finish
This property is every bit as charming as the pictures depict. For our first trip abroad as a family, we wanted to experience the authentic culture of the French countryside, and we were able to do that while still enjoying comfortable beds, strong showers, and a wonderful pool complete with lounge chairs, umbrellas and pool toys. The owners were so helpful and friendly. They reside on site. There is also a bed and breakfast in the main house on the grounds and a very nice bar/pub up there as well. We speak very little French so the fact that the owners are native English speakers was very helpful. They also helped us with little tips like you need a 1 € coin to get the carts out of the rack at the large grocery nearby and you have to bring your own shopping bags. There are cats and roosters on the property and a fish pond right outside the door of the gîte. We live in a fairly big city in the States, so this just added to the ambiance for us. I would give more stars if I could, and if we are lucky enough to return to this part of France this is where we will stay.
Thank you so much for your lovely review!
We are so glad your enjoyed your stay with us and that we could be of help! Great to hear your first trip to Europe was a pleasant one and we'd love to see you again if you ever return to the area :-)
My family (2 adults & 4 children) were given a warm & friendly welcome by the owners on arrival at their cafe (Le Pavillon) - we were offered drinks on the house which was a lovely touch and very gratefully received after our journey! We stayed at Wisteria gite for 2 weeks - the property was clean, well-equipped and comfortable....and just a stone's throw away from the lovely swimming pool! The village of Asnieres is tranquil & picturesque and also ideally-located for exploring all that the Sarthe valley has to offer.....which we discovered was quite a lot! We went kayaking, go-karting and did accrobranche (zip-wires through the forest). We visited Le Mans & Angers too - both lovely cities less than an hour drive away. We also made good use of the swimming pool; which is kept spotlessly clean and at a very nice temperature. A great time was had by us all.
Everything about our holiday was fantastic. The accommodation had everything that we could have needed and was a brilliant lay out for our group. The grounds were really lovely, in particular the beautiful wisteria right outside the door over the outdoor table. So many lovely touches it is difficult to list them all! The pool area and gardens are perfect for young children and being able to use the inflatables and other toys was so handy.
Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and could not have been more helpful. The cafe in the village that is owned by the hosts is excellent, lovely food and ambience. Really hope we get the opportunity to come to this beautiful, peaceful village again. Thank you
The gites are perfect they have all the space you need if the weather is inclement
The weather was variable during our stay but we had more than enough space for 4 adults. When we could be outside the pool & BBQ area where perfect and as we had friends staying in the other gites we could all get together easily. We are looking forward to seeing you all in September and again next July with all our cars! Mark & Nina looked after us brilliantly and nothing was too much. It's a complete gem of a place and we will be back regularly 😀
Great property for a family of 5. Beautiful setting. Very peaceful
The gités are set in a beautiful quiet location. Our three kids loved the pool and we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. The old city of Le Mans is 40 mins away and well worth a visit.
Fabulous place, Fab pool and Fab owners.
We had a fantastic stay in the Wisteria gîte and would highly recommend it to anyone.
We thought Asnières-sur-Vègre and the surrounding villages were beautiful, some of the most well kept places we have seen in France. The gîte was lovely and clean and had everything we needed. The showers were powerful and the beds were comfy. Lots of areas to eat and drink around the gîte - some in the shade, which is great in the blazing heat. The swimming pool and the whole pool area was wonderfully clean and there were comfy sun lounges and huge umbrellas to shade you when needed. We played boules, ping pong and plenty of card games in the shade of the pool house.
There is a huge supermarket just 15 minutes away which was really useful and had everything we needed. We spent one day away from the pool and took a trip into Le Mans. We visited the 24 hour museum and then headed into the city to go shopping. We were really surprised at how lovely Le Mans was - such a beautiful old town and lots of boutique shops as well as many large high street shops.
On our last night we visited La Pavillon and had a superb meal with some lovely wine which was a great way to end the holiday. Mark and his family are wonderful hosts and they provided us with everything we needed for our stay.

The lake is popular for fishing (at one end) and swimming (at the other end). The gites are roughly 2 hours from the nearest coast located on the West coast.
