18th Century Cornish Fishing Cottage In the Centre of Fowey.....just lovely!!!

Bedrooms 2
Separate WCs1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Character cottage, estuary views, sunny walled garden with decking and a log fire with logs, use of heated pool!

A Charming 2 bedroom traditional Cornish Cottage situated in Fowey just a few minutes from the quayside and with views of the estuary and the additional benefit of the use of a pool, playground and spa in Fowey Hall Hotel. We have tried and succeeded (we hope) to create a warm, homely feel with a touch of luxury. A real log fire for wintry days and a sheltered, south facing garden with decking and a barbecue for summer, to make your holiday fun. Situated a few minutes from the quay side, and the famous All Saints Way. The shops, pubs and restaurants are a short walk downhill past St Finnebarrass Church or via The Safe Harbour and The Ship both excellent hostelries.

There is always activity on the estuary from the many boats moored, and sometimes large visiting craft which need piloting in and if you are lucky the dolphins will visit too. There is a car ferry and a foot ferry running regularly across this famous natural estuary, it's so nice to get out on the water.

Walk along the Esplanade to reach Readymoney Beach or simply head off in the other direction to sample the huge variety of beaches and attractions this delightful area of Cornwall has to offer.

Full central heating, electricity, luxury bedlinen, towels, logs for the fire, internet and a welcoming bottle of wine are all included to make your stay comfortable.

We also boast membership to the Spa at the Fowey Hall Hotel a short walk away so guests can use the pool and hot-tub facilities and playground or book in for a massage or have a discount in the restaurant, all of which are thoroughly recommended.

About Carol Jackson

We came to Cornwall as we decided we needed a project when the kids left home. We travelled round looking for a cottage we would enjoy renovating and staying in and found this cottage in Fowey in a very sad state. We retired to the beach in Polkerris had a drink or two and the decision was made!! We have spent some worthwhile time restoring the cottage, and now the garden, with the help of a very good builder, my husbands building experience and my interior design. We have tried to create a warm comfortable holiday cottage with all modern facilities. Our kids certainly wish our home in Sheffield was as well furbished. We have all worked really hard together (kids included) and are quite proud of our achievement and thoroughly enjoy our time in and around Fowey whenever we get the opportunity.

Carol Jackson purchased this house in 2011

Why Carol Jackson chose Fowey

We wanted a holiday home in a picturesque village within walking distance of the waters edge yet with good pubs and restaurants but needed plenty to see and do as well. In Fowey there is plenty to see and do with great walks, cliff paths, beaches, gardens, a great choice of golf clubs, vineyards, and of course sailing on the estuary or just messing about on the water. Since we have been coming down to the cottage we have fallen in love with Fowey and also its history from the pirates, Du Maurier, the War, rivalry with Polruan. Everyone will have a story to tell you, we have certainly chosen a great spot.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is situated within the village just behind the church but slightly elevated so you can see the estuary. It is an easy saunter down to the quayside and all the bars, shops and award winning restaurants, but there is easy access too so loading/unloading, parking and getting out of the village is easy too. The property has just been fully refitted out very tastefully and benefits from modern kitchen appliances that work easily and efficiently making it a pleasure to cook. There is a bright and airy open plan living area with a real fire, and a door straight out onto the smart decking area which gets the sun all day with a small garden beyond and a barbecue area. Lovely comfortable bedrooms and an amazing shower, two toilets, WiFi and efficient central heating!

what a fabulous relaxing time....

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived in this beautiful little cottage on the hill, we felt our busy lives unwinding. The cottage has everything needed for a peaceful retreat and is clean and tidy. The little town of Fowey is a delight to mooch around in with its quirky little shops and restaurants and has easy access to the bigger towns if needed. My particular highlight was coming 'home' every evening, lighting the fire and relaxing to a good film and glass of wine. The added bonus was the use of the spa facilities at the local hotel not too far away which were clean and not crowded. All in all I'm one happy relaxed individual - the family too! Thanks Carol

Comfortable, Traditional Cornish cottage, with phenomenal views of the town and estuary from bedroom

  • 4 of 5

The property is clean, warm and comfortable and has all the equipment one needs for an enjoyable holiday and is in a great position for getting into and out of the town.

We have been coming to Fowey for a number of years, as we love it so much and still find new places to explore in and around Fowey, every year.

This was the first time we stayed in Carol’s Cottage and will definitely be back again!

Carol’s cottage was charming

  • 5 of 5

The property was accurately described and Carol was responsive when we telephoned.

We were blessed with good weather and everyone we met in Fowey was friendly and nice. We were sorry to leave and wish our visit could have been longer.

Carol, a small suggestions. The second step down to the patio is warping and starting to separate. Would be a hazard for a small child or elderly person.

Thank you for having milk there for us and the nice bottle of wine.😊?

We stayed over the New Year period and the cottage was the perfect base. Great location with a 5 minute walk to the centre of Fowey and all it has to offer, lovely fire, all the facilities you need, nice garden in the back (would be amazing in the summer). Instructions for access etc were really easy and Carol was very helpful and quick with questions - excellent place to stay

A lovely cottage and a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great winter weekend in the cottage and appreciated the ample supply of logs for the open fire. Possibly the most comfortable bed we have come across. A 5 min walk into town and parking outside the property.

The Fowey Estuary is 300m walk with yachts, dinghies, ferries, and canoes. Fowey's picturesque Readymoney Cove is a level stroll along The Esplanade with its permanent raft in summer and numerous rock pools.

Polkerris (our favourite) is a lovely sheltered beach with its own Water Sports Centre, a Bistro on the Beach and a Pub approx 5/10 mins by car, an hours walk along the Saints Way, 2 hours on the Coastal Path if you feel like some exercise there are numerous secret beaches along the way.

The nearest main line station is Par (3 miles away) the train line through Par comes from as far away as Glasgow, through Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Lostwithiel, Par, or from London Paddington via Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth again to Par.

Near airports - Plymouth City Airport 30 miles. Newquay Cornwall Airport 25 miles. Bristol 140 miles. Plymouth Ferry Port 30 miles via Torpoint ferry.

The Eden Project (10 minutes), or walk or cycle

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (40 minutes)

Lanhydrock (10 minutes).

Lostwithiel, the old capital of Cornwall great for antiques (10 minutes).

Bodmin (20 mins) 12 miles

St Austell (15 mins)

Newquay surfing around 40 minutes drive or the train runs from Par

Charlestown tall ships (15 mins)

Padstow for Rick Steins fish and chips around 40 minutes drive

Truro great shops (30 mins)

Falmouth Rick Steins new eatery and Maritime Museum (45 mins).

Further Details:

Free use of the swimming pool, hot tub and Spa at the Fowey Hall Hotel is included with 10% off treatments and food and drink.

The Eden Project is quite interesting (7 miles) a good way to make those gravel pits attractive, they have a few concerts in the summer which must be a great venue, and an ice rink in winter. There is a newly installed zip wire over it which is one of the longest in the Country.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, (14 miles) near Mevagissey is a must see on a sunny day in Spring when the Rhododendrons and Magnolia are blooming they are as big as trees, Lanhydrock (7 miles) National Trust house and gardens some themed events.

The All Saints Way runs from Fowey to Padstow over Bodmin Moor, right past the front of the cottage, 27 miles I believe.

The Coastal Path runs from Fowey in both directions past some beautiful beaches, Polkerris onto Par and even St Austell in one direction and Polperro and Looe in the other direction passing the famous Lantic Bay one of the most picturesque beaches in England according to the Telegraph.

The famous Hall Walk, catch the ferry to Polruan, and follow the estuary to Pont and back down the other side and back on the car ferry calling in at the pub by the ferry terminal, this can be lengthened by calling in St Wyllows Church in Lanteglos well worthwhile to me. All details at the tourist office.

Canoeing up the river as far as Lostwithiel if you go with the tide it is a lot easier. Canoes and small boats can be rented in the village.

RYA sailing courses available in Fowey and at the water sports centre on Polkerris Beach. Polkerris is a lovely safe beach with a pub and a bistro and courses in sailing and windsurfing for children during the summer months.

Ferry to Polperro and Mevagissey in the summer.

There are many tracks the most famous being Camel Valley - the tourist office will have maps if the OS map in the house has disappeared.

Go-Carting at Liskeard

Asda and Sainsburys in Bodmin just when you come off the A30 Asda is on the road on the right and Sainsburys further down on the right and also in St Austell.

Tesco is the closest large supermarket in St Austell approx. 15/20 minutes (8 miles).
