Villa Portuguesa is something quite special at Praia d’el Rey. The owners of Villa Portuguesa have utilised locally sourced materials, such as the Portuguese marble floor in the living and to showcase the incredible craftsmanship that Portuguese furniture makers were once known for, with the beautiful pieces that the owners have lovingly sourced from suppliers all over the country. Villa Portuguesa is a refreshing alternative to the modern interiors that we have become used to and would be a perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the ‘real’ Portugal.
Entering Villa Portuguesa brings you into a spacious entrance way with the large kitchen in front and a very large open-plan living room and dining room. The living room is flooded with light through numerous large windows and french doors which take you out to a sunny terrace overlooking the swimming pool. The kitchen is well equipped and features hand-painted Portuguese tiles. Have a look for the ‘under the sea’ and ‘on the land’ professions that the owners drew themselves to inspire the tiles.
On the ground floor you have two twin bedrooms each with it’s own ensuite bathroom. The beds here can be combined into doubles if needed. There is also a single bedroom again with it’s own shower room, and a separate guest WC.
On the first floor you have the large master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (with Jacuzzi bath) and a study area with a beautiful vaulted brick ceiling. From the bedroom French doors open out to a terrace with views over the swimming pool, across the golf course and to the ocean beyond. The bed is a handmade by a well-renowned Portuguese company and features delicate inlaid patterns of contrasting wood.
Also upstairs you have two further double bedrooms, again featuring stunning handmade furniture and each with an ensuite bathroom, again with handmade Portuguese tiles. All the bedrooms are very light with sunlight pouring in through French doors which take you out to the terrace with views of the ocean in the distance. All the bedrooms have air-conditioning.
Outside the villa sits in a very large plot with a large lawn area and an attractive garden, off-street parking for at least 4 cars and of course a large swimming pool. There is an outside shower housed under a roof of fragrant honeysuckle. The villa also have a private roof terrace, the perfect spot to relax and watch the sunset.
Villa Portuguesa is not recommended for small children due to the delicate nature of the furniture inside the villa. Outside there is also a low boundary wall which drops into the garden of the neighbouring villa and which children should be aware of.
