Barn Conversion in Midhopestones, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England - Overlooking Open Countryside With Many Marked Footpaths And Trails Around Local Reservoirs

Midhopestones is a small village on the outskirts of Sheffield and the Peak District and is convenient for Manchester and the M1 motorway. The village is nestled in rolling hills with many walks and trails, long and short. Our local pub is 2 minutes walk away and has log fires, Oak beams and stone floors and sells good food and real ales.

Our cottage is furnished to a very high standard and kept spotlessly clean. We have quality appliances including dishwasher, washing machine and 40inch Sony LCD Television. There is full central heating with underfloor heating downstairs. We also have Free WiFi.

Outside we have a large patio to the rear with table and seating for 6. There is also also an enclosed private deck area with sun loungers, overlooking open countryside and the River Porter. For the children we have a large playhouse with toys and for the adults there is a wood fired Pizza Oven.

About Mr A Harrison

Gillian and I converted Midhope Lodge ourselves from farm buildings. It took us 7 years working full time and without any help other than a plasterer. Because we worked on the barn ourselves we had time to get to know the buildings and change our plans as we went along making this a fabulous building and grounds. Midhope Lodge is split into 2, we live in one half and the other half, which is totally separate, is rented out for holiday accommodation.

Why Mr A Harrison chose Sheffield

Midhopestones is a small village on the edge of the Peak Park with the river Porter running through. During the summer there is well dressing at the village well. Our only pub is call "ye Olde Mustard Pot" and has a restaurant.

The village is almost surrounded by moors and reservoirs with marked paths and trails for walking and cycling. It's just a short drive to Sheffield centre and other nearby places to visit including National mining museum (take a trip underground - free), Holmfirth (famous for the TV Series "Last of the Summer Wine"), Ladybower and Derwent Dams (WW2 Dambusters), Magna (Huge Steel works museum), Kelham Island Musem just to mention a few.

What makes this barn unique

Midhope Lodge is within a small holding often with a few sheep, pigs and Chickens wandering freely. Eggs Available most times. We have a secluded sun deck with 3 sun beds and NEW THIS YEAR WE HAVE A WOOD FIRED PIZZA OVEN.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great place, friendly host, really easy to get to, close to both civilasation and the hills. an ideal starting point for many a country walk and comfortable enough to just sit and while awy the hours should you want to. Spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. can't recoomend enough to people. Already told all my friends!

I was welcomed by the friendly owners upon arrival and they were very amenable as it was my husbands surprise 40th birthday weekend. We were welcomed with a bottle of bubbly and cakes which was lovely. The cottage was of an excellent high standard and everything worked fully and a lot of items were provided such as hand soap, cleaner, logs, towels, bedding etc which was great. Nearby was a reservoir with a great walk around it. It was tipping down with rain but we had a great time and then came back to a log fire which was very cosy. There was plenty of parking which was good as we had a few friends and family coming and going over the weekend. The sheep was great

Lovely historical Midhopstone cottage

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Midhope cottage. Beautiful accommodation, lots of room, well equipt, great historical renovation of the old original barn to cottage.

The owner Andrew was quite friendly and helpful, courteous. Lovely yard, flowers, backyard dining area, kids playhouse etc.

The only draw back that we found with this property is the noise. It is on a very busy roadway, and traffic starts early at 5 am. We were there for one of the hottest summers on record, so had all the windows open for air, traffic was very loud. Too bad, such a lovely place and this was our only small fault we could find, otherwise lovely cottage.

Pleasant stay.

  • 4 of 5

The property was perfect for our needs as two families. It was comfortable, well maintained, well equipped and easy to find. The owner couldn't have been more helpful.

Double glaizing might help with the noise level of the nearby road which was a minor irritation.

All in all, good value....... a pleasant stay.

Welcome weekend retreat

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cottage, double rooms very spacious. Didn't appreciate actually on A616 but that is clear when you receive directions. Road noisy but when a large amount of snow this reduced!! Great walking from the door to local reservoir, and local pubs had really tasty food and good beer and wine.

Lovely open fire, only one bag of logs supplied though, advised could be got at garage which we did but they were wet!! Shame not a dry supply could purchase from owner.

Landlord away but very helpful when we contacted him.
