Trullo Jolly: Luxury Trullo set in an Olive Grove, with pool near Ostuni

Bedrooms 3
Separate WCs1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

The Trullo is situated in three acres of grounds on Sessana Grande, in between the towns of Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica. The area itself is regarded as a prime location embedded in an undulating rural landscape of olive, fruit and almond trees. The location of “Sessana” is perfect for easy access to all the nearby towns and the seaside. The nearest beach is a 15 minutes drive away. The “white town” of Ostuni is only five minutes away from Sessana. Ostuni is a lively and buzzing town in the Summer months. The old town with its two prominent churches straddles the top of a hill commanding some of the most magnificent views over the ancient olive trees that “carpet” the plain leading to the coast. Ceglie Messapica is equidistant from “Sessana” and has a very different feel to the more lively and upbeat Ostuni. Ceglie, as it is called by the locals, is a beautiful small town with an abundance of incredible restaurants and pretty lively town square.

The Trullo has three bedrooms; the master is en suite and opens onto the terrace. There is a further bathroom with bath on the ground floor and two double bedrooms on the lower ground floor, which share a marble shower room. All bedrooms have been tiled in handmade Italian tiles and are fully furnished. There is also an outdoor shower room next to the pool.

The Trullo has two alcoves which can be used either as a lounge or a sleeping area for children. The trullo has a tv, games, cards, books, dvd player, outdoor projector and fast broadband.

We can accommodate 6 adults and up to 4 children sleeping in the Trullo alcoves.

The kitchen is hand made, with a gas / electric range cooker with rotisserie and smeg fridge, dishwasher and air conditioning unit.

There is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

The covered terrace runs directly in front of the pool looking onto the olive grove, with some fifty trees. There is a lounge/seating area in front of the working fireplace and a dining table area for up to 12 people. The set up is particularly good for families with children.

The pool measures 5 x 10.

The sun terrace surrounding the pool has six sun loungers and a double campaign bed for sun bathing.

The terrace is also enclosed by a traditional style wall, with “English grass” surround.

There is a table tennis table and outdoor cinema area.

The bbq area is situated at the end of the pool and has an outdoor fridge, work area and sink.

There is also a roof terrace for yoga and sun bathing. Steps to the roof terrace are situated at the front and rear of the Trullo.

The entrance to the Trullo is served by electric gates and the house is fully alarmed and serviced by a security company who patrol the area.

Please be advised that the house is self catering. We will supply a welcome basket and ensure there are toilet rolls in all bathrooms and bin bags on arrival. However, please note that any restocking must be done by the guests.

We have wonderful house keepers Fran and Pietro, who can make restaurant reservations, organise additional cleaning, stock the house with wonderful local wines and foods, babysitting, massages etc (at an additional cost, payable direct).

Trullo Jolly is a beautifully decorated house near Ostuni. We stayed there for a week with our children and grandchildren and enjoyed it very much. Prefect for a holiday with friends or family. We would definitely love to come again.

A great relaxing villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa was in a great location although you had to drive to get anywhere which was fine for us. The villa has everything you may need and the local admin team were there if we needed them. The surrounding towns and villages are beautiful and have a great variety of Italian restaurants catering for all of your gastronomic needs.

Lovely home and stay, and would highly recommend! Great saltwater pool (not noted in the description, but this would definitely be an additional selling feature for me). Beautiful grounds, patios, roof deck. Clean, well stocked with most everything you need for an extended stay. Great location to explore Puglia from. Pictures do not do the property justice, specifically the 2 downstairs bedrooms. There is a slight ant problem on the patio, which got worse as the week went on and slowly started creeping into the kitchen. Assuming this is unavoidable given the area as they were washing the entire walls of house/patios as we were leaving.

House managers/concierge were polite and helpful. Could send a note saying when they are coming to clean just so everyone is aware as a lot of people come at one time. Also I was interested in visiting wineries and although he had a wine business, could only give me one location for tastings. And we had already tried the wine from the vineyard, as it was stocked for purchase in the house (which was a much needed perk upon arrival!).

Directions to the property can use some updating as they are a bit inaccurate, which caused some frustration, especially when on hour 18 of travel. Below are the accurate updates (if you book save this!):

-The first "stop light" after you exit for SP 22 towards Ostuni is really a roundabout (there is no light) and you should take the first exit (go right). After that you just follow all the signs on each round about to Ceglie Messapicia as it is between this town and Ostuni, not in Ostuni.

-The distance between the last roundabout as you pass through Ostuni to the turn for the house is listed as 3km the distance is really 5km (note: that at 3 km there is another right turn with a 'sign with two names' and the same turns in the road as described in the directions, so very very confusing)

-The 'Q8' gas station landmark after the turn to the house is really named Star Oil, which if it is closed and dark outside is not visible from the road at all. We had 5 people in the car and not one person saw it.

I would highly recommend sending an active pin drop from google maps from the house, or even adding the house as a location on google maps. Much simpler for everyone.

Beautiful villa in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Puglia and apart from the weather it didn’t disappoint. We were very unlucky that we had cold and rain, apparently first time like this in 100 years at this time of year. As a result we visited many places around. Lots of small towns with historic centres and narrow streets, all very lovely. We even saw some spectacular caves about an hour away.

Villa very comfortable and well fitted with lovely outside space.

Very special sanctuary in idyllic location...

  • 5 of 5

I knew from the photographs that we were in for a treat but my goodness what a discovery! This is the ultimate retreat, oozing style and with intricate attention to detail and intelligent functionality. Everything has been carefully considered, the facilities are generous with a faultless quality. From crockery and kitchen equipment to incredibly comfortable beds and exquisite linens, nothing has been overlooked. The aesthetics are to die for, the views from the roof terrace particularly enchanting as the sun goes down. We did yoga every day and also used the terrace as an additional sunbathing area, so very secluded and totally private if you just fancy some quiet time.

Particular praise for the pool, so beautiful and a very comfortable temperature. And very safe if children involved, not too deep and with easy access via gentle steps. The lighting is inspired, with tiny pin lights at floor level and down the sides of the staircase, beautiful lamps dotted around and well-planned lighting around the terrace and pool area. Proper meaningful showers and everything is scrupulously clean.

There's a comprehensive and eclectic choice of reading material including contemporary Puglian design books, or for more active pursuits table tennis and a very large trampoline....younger guests will appreciate the provision of two kiddies trikes and the olive grove provides a safe adventure ground to be explored.

Security is state of the art and saving the best for last I cannot praise highly enough the care and attentions of Francesca and Pietro, what lovely hosts and they made our stay so very easy. As for the local restaurants, blimey....just come and find out!
