Convenient location but uncomfortable bed
No internet access. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in- springs sticking in me, I got a crick in my neck that didn't go away. Nowhere to park the car for loading or unloading as the entrance was continually blocked by builders vans working on the building next door.
Thank you for your review. We were, obviously, disappointed, and would like to address the points raised.
1) Internet - We needed to get a new BT box. Meanwhile, we left instructions, by the box, for the mifi account which is a temporary measure and allows full access to the internet. Instructions for usage were left by the internet box. These instructions were there when we went back to the flat to clean, so were there during your visit. It is unfortunate that we were not contacted directly, so we did not know that you were experiencing difficulties which would have been easily rectified.
2) Bed - there is a memory foam for comfort. This is placed behind the bed and can be seen and can be pulled directly onto the sofa bed mattress when the bed is being made. This recommendation is also in the information folder. We will add this to the website as well as we appreciate that sofa beds are not especially comfortable (hence the memory foam).
3) Building works - there will be an inherent limit to this interference and we are sorry that this timing conflicted with your stay.
Small but perfectly formed
Although Stable Door is small we found the design fitted in everything we needed remarkably well. The flat is well positioned in the centre of Lewes with restaurants, shops, etc on the doorstep. Parking is a bit of a problem but we coped without too much difficulty. All in all the flat worked well for us.
A Great Month in Lewes
It was not clear from the website that the bed was a pull out couch. However that is my sole gripe. Everything else was just right for me! Town Centre, close to station. The possibility of entertaining my Lewes relatives as the cooking facilities were excellent. The ability to easily lock and leave since I had several short stays in other places, all trouble free on account of the closeness of the rail lines. Loved the fact that I could sit out in the sun on the little terrace. Probably not the best for a whole month for more than one person, though fine for a night or two. Also television, radio shower, hot water and everything else worked perfectly; essential for a long stay.
Gorgeous studio apartment in a great location
The apartment is a 2 minute walk from the train station, and is right in the heart of the pubs, restaurant and shops. The owner has thought of absolutely everything to ensure you have a great stay. The sofa bed is comfy, the kitchenette is spotless, the bathroom is fully stocked (and the underfloor heating is great on a cold day!) and the cupboards have everything you need. I would definitely stay here again when I'm in Sussex.
Small, cozy and exceptionally well equipped
This lovely little studio apartment is dead centre of Lewes with easy access to lots of great eateries, the castle and pubs. The apartment is small but cozy and very well equipped. The bed is a sofa bed which was comfy enough for us and the kitchen had everything we could have possibly wanted.
The only warnings are that it has no dedicated parking, we were lucky enough to be able to find a nearby disabled parking bay but this option might not be open to you. Its also up two outdoors flights of steps so might not be appropriate for those with mobility issues.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this studio apartment to others.
A wonderfully snug little flat. Everything you need is provided. Great central location in Lewes,
A great location right in the centre of historical Lewes. Very well equipped flat - and wonderful under floor heating.
And actually pretty quiet as it is hidden behind the High street. Emily the owner was very helpful.
Lewes is a great place for foodies and we recommend Bills restaurant just over the bridge and the Snowdrop Inn for great dinners. There is also a great food market on Friday.
We walked to Virginia Woolf's House along the Ouse which is pretty easy and flat - just over 3 miles - and there is a great pub in the village.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay here and recommend it for a brilliant break in a great historical town.

The historic county town of Lewes has much to interest the visitor, from the 11th century Castle and Priory, or the 15th century splendor of Anne of Cleves House, to the Victorian Gothic monument to the art of brewing that is Harvey's brewery.
Lewes is also home to an impressive range and variety of independent shops and specialist retailers, selling everything from home wares to fashion, fine art to local crafts. The town is a center for the antiques trade, and any antiques or vintage enthusiast will be able to spend many happy hours browsing in the centers and shops scattered around the town, or try their luck at one the town’s two auction houses.
Harveys beer is not the only local produce of which Lewes is justly proud, and anyone with an interest in food – or just a healthy appetite! – will enjoy a visit here. The town has many excellent delicatessens, bakeries, cafes, dining pubs and restaurants, as well regular weekly and monthly farmers’ markets.
From unspoilt countryside, spectacular coastline, and quintessentially English villages to the bustle and excitement of Brighton – the south coast’s ‘London by the sea’- the area around Lewes offers something for every visitor.
The South Downs National Park is one of the Country’s most beautiful landscapes, and Lewes sits enfolded within it.
Close by lie magnificent Glyndebourne Opera House – Lewes is an excellent base for anyone attending a performance- the Elizabethan manor houses of Firle Place and Glynde Place, Charleston House, the country retreat of the Bloomsbury set , and the charming village of Ditchling. At historic Michelham Priory, a beautiful medieval house and outbuildings are set in glorious gardens, all encircled by a water filled moat.
The vibrant city of Brighton is only 15 minutes from Lewes by train or bus, and offers something for everyone, from the beach to the Pavilion, shopping to nightlife.
Comprehensive visitor information is provided in folders at the apartment.
