About Kildare Borrowes

I am Kildare Borrowes, cousin of the owner Eva Morris, and I look after all Pekes bookings for her.

I am a writer and gardener, and particularly interested in the history of Sussex and its landscapes, its painters and its gardens. Like for most people I find there are few greater pleasures in life than walking along the nearby South Downs with the sea cliffs and the fresh breeze on the one side and the ancient sheep pastures on the other.

Kildare Borrowes purchased this house in 1908

Why Kildare Borrowes chose Hailsham

There is a huge sense of history at Pekes, an ancient Wealden hall house built in the 1470s with quite a few of its old features left in place. Eva's grandfather bought it in 1908, and little has changed since his day except facilities, comfort and warmth has been added. Gate Cottage is cosy, private and snug, with views over the parkland. Pekes has elegant gardens, parkland, lovely trees and wonderful views over the landscape.

What makes this house unique

Timelessness, peace, gardens, country walks, the sniff of the sea, loads of nearby activities and attractions.

Lovely property set in beautiful surroundings - we had an amazing weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

The whole experience was brilliant, the property was amazing - so nice to find somewhere that accommodated 12 without being extortionate. Plus we were able to bring a dog. From the moment we booked the experience was great with all of our questions being answered quickly and in a welcoming and friendly manner. The whole process of booking and communicating was stress free and meant I could relax and really enjoy the weekend. We are already planning to book the property again.

Owner's Response: What a charming review from a lady who was staying with a group of friends in our Mounts View. This is, of COURSE, what we hope and try to achieve for our guests, and it's so nice when we get this sort of appreciation! We appreciated them too!

Such a lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Just perfect...couldn’t of wished for a nicer place to stay.

Location was simply great, ideal for families with small children & pets.

Bigger than expected and suited us down to the ground.

With a 3& 2 year old ,being on one level was brilliant.

Well equipped throughout & surpassed our expectations.

The Sauna ,Swimming Pool & Trampoline all gratefully used

We would recommend Mounts View to anyone wanting a country break .

The wood burner was simply wonderful and the decorated Christmas tree was most welcomed

10/10 also to owners & staff for excellent communication throughout

Love to come back
