Property type mobile home

Atlas is a spacious and comfortable mobile home with stylish modern decor and is well equipped for a family holiday.

Heating is provided by our biomass burner central heating with a radiator in the bedroom, a heated towel rail and a plinth heater in the living room. In addition there is an electric flame effect wall heater.

About the property

Privately located with views.

Offering so much more than the usual caravan experience, the two bedroom Atlas caravan and 1958 Bluebird caravan have been refurbished to a high standard and are both in fabulous private positions on our 35 acre farm in the Marshwood Vale near Bridport. Ideal for relaxation or spending time your family. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, artists, bookworms, birdwatchers.

Less than a mile down the lane is the Shave Cross Inn, serving great food and drinks. Dogs are welcome in the bar and garden.

Both caravans offer complete privacy separately but are also near each other, making them perfect for friends or family who wish to holiday together.

In Atlas the stylish decor gives a modern and fresh feel, a laminated floor makes the caravan suitable for guests with a dog. With breathtaking views from the wooden deck and enclosed garden which faces South and West and has a gate out onto Purcombe Hill where you are free to walk your dog, run, play or just to sit on the bench on the top and to enjoy the fabulous views over the Marshwood Vale.

The 1959 Bluebird caravan has been restored to its original vintage condition with a modern shower-room a step away, it has a secluded courtyard garden with lovely views to the West.

Hot water is provided by our biomass burner which is fuelled by hay from our 35 acre farm. We keep free-range hens and geese and always have fresh eggs available to buy.

The Shave Cross Inn is a great pub (under new ownership from October 2018) and is less than a mile down the lane. The food is locally sourced and delicious.

There is a lovely garden to sit in on summer evenings, children and dogs welcome too.

There are numerous and varied restaurants, cafes and bars in Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis for eating out during your stay. You will find a guide in the information folder in each caravan.

The caravans have sun chairs to sit in to savour the sunsets and a barbecue/firebowl to cook on and keep you warm in the evenings. We also provide fire extinguishers and smoke alarms for peace of mind. Charmouth Beach is 7 miles away, it is a safe beach for swimming and also great for fossil enthusiasts, a visit to the Heritage Coast Centre by the car park is fascinating too. Fossil walks take place regularly from Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

An ideal location for getting away from the bustle of everyday life. There is little light or noise pollution giving ideal conditions for stargazing and other countryside pursuits - walking, watching wildlife and enjoying the birdsong! The barn owls are regularly spotted hunting at dusk or you may see a hare speeding across the fields!

Our meadows are managed to provide a habitat for wildlife and are full of butterflies, insects and wildflowers. You are welcome to walk around the meadows, we provide a map and mow paths around the farm. Wellies are a good idea, even in summer when the grass may be long off the footpaths.

About Georgina Bailey

Nicholas and Georgina Bailey live at Purcombe Farm, Pilsdon with their three sons. Nicholas was born and brought up near Bridport and has a wealth of local knowledge. The family have lived together in and around Bridport for over 20 years and would be happy to help you during your stay.

"We live in a beautiful, peaceful place and enjoy sharing it with you during your precious time away from the pressures of life. It is important to us that you are comfortable and have a lovely time while your are staying with us. Please ask if there is anything that we can do to make your holiday enjoyable. We hope to see you soon." Georgina

Georgina Bailey purchased this mobile home in 2009

Why Georgina Bailey chose Marshwood

We bought Purcombe Farm in September 2009, moving from another farm near Charmouth. We were attracted to the peace and quiet of Pilsdon and to the fabulous views and open skies. We find that Bridport is easy to get to and we enjoy being away from the busy coast, especially during the summer months. The farm had three caravans sited on it when we bought it, two of which were being rented out for holidays. We have improved and updated the first, Atlas, and our vintage 1959 Sun Regent Bluebird is now also available to rent either on its own or to provide extended accommodation for family and friends holidaying together, both are very private and have wonderful views.

Our next project is our 1979 Bedford Bus which we are converting to provide an unusual holiday home for guests who are looking for a quirky place to stay.

We are also renovating our Grade II* listed farmhouse and a vintage Aveling Road Traction steam engine both of which are on-going, long term projects!

What makes this mobile home unique

The rural location of the caravan allows you to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Dorset countryside whilst still being only a short drive from Bridport and the coast.

There are many things to do nearby...walking, flying a kite, fishing, bird watching, collecting fossils, building sandcastles and rock-pooling, enjoying live shows and art in Bridport, horse riding, fishing or just eating fish and chips on the beach and watching the world go by...

"Such a peaceful haven. Very quiet and very dark!"

"The accommodation you have provided here is fantastic....the views, the nearby attractions such as Bridport, Beer etc make this an idyllic holiday and we would not hesitate to recommend it. The caravan itself is a home from home, we have been so relaxed as a family together and escaped the constraints that everyday life can deliver. Thank you for this perfect retreat, we will be back time and time again."

amazing views

  • 5 of 5

The first thing that you see is the amazing view! The caravan is lovely and brilliantly equipped. Even though we had amazing weather for April the heated blanket was so welcome and there are lovely touches like this throughout. Georgina and her family could not be more friendly or helpful and their eggs and the local milk went down a treat. We brought our 3 teenage children and the highlight was a day spent in the sun playing games in the field and an evening bbq, all spent overlooking the amazing view. We will definitely be booking to stay again.Maria Jewiss 7/04/17

Tranquil getaway

  • 4 of 5

What a fabulous location. What charming hosts. What narrow approach country lanes- not for the nervous driver! Leave your precious sports cars at home! Blackout blinds would be the only improvement we could suggest (take your eye mask) Ear plugs definitely NOT required. Thankyou for a fabulous short stay in a charming caravan with views to die for.

Owner's Response: So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Purcombe Farm. The lanes can take a bit of getting used to, just driving slowly and smiling at everyone usually works for me! Thank you for your comment about blackout blinds, good idea, I'll sort that out for guests who like to sleep on after sunrise. Many thanks, Georgina

What a lovely part of the world! Once you conquer the narrow lanes you can really appreciate how lucky Georgina is.The spotless caravan is perfectly sited with magnificent views across the valley.Kestrels and Buzzards are everyday visitors. And I saw the Barn Owl! The night sky was like nothing I had seen before, so clear. Georgina is absolutely charming,a lovely lady happy to help.If you love the countryside take a look at Purcombe Farm. You'll love it.

We loved this caravan!

  • 5 of 5

We were so excited about our stay in Georgina's caravan and it did not disappoint. It's so cosy and comfortable with a lot of thought given to what a family needs - little touches like a pack of paper and colouring pencils were really appreciated. There was loads of hot water, the beds were very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the beaches at Lyme Regis, Charmouth & Burton Bradstock. The aspect of the caravan is wonderful as you can watch the sun set across the valley. Georgina made us very welcome and we are already looking at when we can go back.

Perfect caravan and location, delightful stay.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in the caravan. from the moment we arrived ( to eggs, milk in the fridge, a box of biscuits and fresh cut wildflowers) everything was great. The caravan is in it's own secluded hills with wonderful views and there's plenty of walking space with well cut paths through all of the fields. Birds sing everywhere, whilst bees buzz on the magnificent smelling clematis on the front of the caravan. The location is ideal being only 10 mins from Bridport, 30 to dorchester and 2 mins to the local pub. Georgina was a delight to deal with and made everything easy and stress free. I would highly recommend this holiday caravan and will be returning in the very near future. thank you
