I am an artist, writer, teacher and educator. My husband and I travel with our work and love to stay in self catering properties rather than hotels! We have taken everything we have experienced in our time doing this and applied it to creating our cottage as a great place to stay.
Why Cathryn chose Hay-on-Wye
I have owned my cottage in Hay for more than 20 years. I fell in love with the cottage because it still had so many original features and my husband and I have made it a priority to modernise it without losing that integrity and character. The cottage is a place we love to return to and we are looking forward to others having the chance to enjoy its very special beauty and charms. Hay is a wonderful place to spend time and when we are here I love to be in the garden, in the kitchen or out and about taking photographs!
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is in a wonderful location. You can take a lovely stroll into Hay on Wye town centre right along the river side, directly from the cottage. Kayaking and cycling can also been booked right in Hay. There are beautiful low level walks locally and of course the Brecon Beacons to explore for more serious hiking! Hay is famous for its books and antiques and has a great local market every Thursday. If you just want to relax then you have great privacy and comfort in the cottage. There are wonderful places to eat and shop in Hay.

What a gem! A little cottage with a big heart.
This cottage is only moments from the delightful centre of Hay and some beautiful riverside walks. It is small but perfectly formed and somehow feels bigger than you think inside. The owner has made the most of the original character but added tastefully quirky designs in its modernisation. She has managed to incorporate all the modern comforts you could need in the cottage as well as many thoughtful extras. When one kitchen appliance gave up the ghost, she had arranged for it to be replaced within minutes of our text, just one example of a warm welcome and attention to detail that makes this place such a little gem.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience of your stay at the cottage Sue - we are thrilled to hear your feedback. It was a great pleasure to host you - kind, friendly and fun to talk to! You are very welcome guests. Best wishes to you both.
Cozy, character-filled hideaway
Great bed, very well equipped kitchen, a few minutes walk from the centre of Hay. Rustic and stylish at the same time. Cathryn was very helpful.
Lovely Christmas in Hay-on-Way
The cottage is very well prepared for a warming stay. Our Christmas time was quite pleasant with the charming of the stove and available game boards. The kitchen is quite functional for any occasion and for us was a key to get a wonderful dinner. Greatly comfortable beds gave another plus into our stay, Hay-on-way is quite charming with loads of book stores. Cathryn has been really nice and fast to answer questions and provide useful information. Definitively I would recommend it and will come back.
Beautiful cottage. Lots of character.
Such a perfect place to stay. Very handy for Hay and cosy and warm with good central heating and a nice wood burning stove. Loads of character and everything provides that you could possible need.
Thanks for your review Colin and for being terrific guests. It was a pleasure to have you stay. Glad you enjoyed the cosy side of the Cottage!
