About David Hughes
David and Helen, who own this property, both work in education. Born locally, David has an extensive knowledge of walking, canoeing, cycling and sailing in the Mournes and further afield. He would be happy to advise those interested in outdoor pursuits and has close links with key outdoor centers and qualified instructors in the area.
David Hughes purchased this Bungalow in 2010
Why David Hughes chose Newcastle
We have 3 children and love the area because of the easy access to the mountains and beach for running, walking and just chilling out with the kids. We often use the property, and rarely have to use the car, as even walking up Donard is easily done from the house. The other advantage is that in the evening the house is only a short walk back from the many lovely restaurants and bars in the town. The house is also a short walk from the superb links golf course 'Royal County Down'.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Everyone who stays here comments on how comfortable and relaxing it is. The house has good outdoor space in the private sunny garden, and cosy in the winter with the wood burning stove. It is truly a home from home with a well equipped kitchen, books, guides and games.

Lovely house. Clean and warm and really convenient
Very welcoming with the heat on when we arrived. Nice quiet neighbourhood close to the Main Street. House was really clean and comfortable
Ideal family accommodation
The house was ideal for our purposes. It was within walking distance of the main street which has plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. We would book this house again.
We stayed here for the weekend for a family party and we were impressed with the amount of space there was, it's a very lovely house and would definitely recommend this place only down fall for us was there was only one shower which was very hard when all trying to get ready but would definitely book again over all this place is perfect
Great holiday home!
Second time here, we absolutely love Staying here everything was perfect once again! Can’t wait to return.
We had a wonderful 5 days staying in this lovely bungalow. The location is great, just a few minutes walk to the shops and the beach. The bungalow is really well equipped & the garden and conservatory perfect on a sunny day. David made us feel really welcome and made sure we had everything we need. This was our first trip to Northern Ireland and I’m sure we’ll be back.
This place is ideally located to explore County Down's delights. The tourist town of Newcastle is in walking distance and the breathtaking Tollymore Forest Park within a few minutes' drive. The house itself is spacious and homely and we were made to feel very welcome by the owner. David gave us some great recommendations on things to see/do, places to eat etc. The kids are gutted to be leaving. They had a fantastic holiday.
