About Sue

We bought the house a few years ago and apart from the ceiling everything was stripped. The whole house was isolated with a warm coat, new bathrooms and kitchen installed. My mum is an artist and made amazing paintings, murals and floors with love. We have 2 bathrooms with floors looking like the beach, shells were taken from the beach and all things we found and she painted it on the floor from seaweed, rope to our dog's paws. In the living she painted in the style of the twenties when the house was built 2 lovely Mucha's. The floor of the kitchen also is amazing a tea set with a fallen milk jug en milk spilt on the floor, you will see it is very special.

We have done an excursion with kilda Cruises to St. Kilda. This day was one of the best in our lives and therefore we decided to name the house after this world heritage site. So this is how Kilda House got it's name. Of course you'll see many paintings in the house with scenery of St, Kilda

Why Sue chose Isle of Harris

We bought this property as it has a soul, has great views overlooking the Sea Loch, so every hour the view is different and it is a large house having 3 bedrooms.

The garden is 40 meters long and sloping up. We put a picnic table at the top, so you'll enjoy the amazing views over the ocean. From the garden you step over the fence in the hills. Lovely for guests to start their walk from the house:)

What makes this house unique

And last but not least, it is within walking distance from the pub and restaurant, so no taxi's needed, walking to the shop and the ferry, fishing in front of the house for people whom like that. By car it is just a 5 min drive to the best beaches of Britain, scoring as one of the best 10 beaches in the world! with with sands, clean, empty and vast. Also for golfers the most beautiful golf course is close by. More benefits? An Otter is living in the Loch, golden Eagles are flying over, the wildlife is just stunning!!! The house warm and welcoming so what about a whiskey in front of the fire after a long walk, or bubbling in the Jacuzzi:)

Great Views over the Sea Loch, nearby many beaches

  • 5 of 5

Kilda House was in an amazing location, an excellent base to explore Harris and Lewis. We got to see an otter swimming in the loch in front of the house, many Golden Eagle's soaring the Glenn and a seals too. We had brilliant weather and Kilda Cruises took us to St Kilda which was amazing. The site itself, 1000 of Gannet's and Fulmars nesting and we were even so lucky to see Puffins. We walked the many beaches, unspoilt, empty and beautiful white sand with turquoise seas. The children loved every minute of our stay. Would highly recommend this house which is homy, spacious, cosy and luxurious, with a large garden. We had a very relaxing stay, will return soon!! Thank you!

Incredible stay, we didn't want to leave!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kilda House our honeymoon. This is one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. It is very special with painted floors, both bathrooms have beaches with shells and things you find on the beach. The kitchen floor is also painted and you kind of don't want to step on the spilled milk, cleverly done. The house is designed with love and an eye for detail. The owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the surroundings. They brought us some fish they just had caught, the freshest we have ever had. The location is truly stunning, a short drive to the jewel beaches of Northton, walk to the Temple ruin and have a cup of tea with home baking at the Temple Cafe! The bathroom has a lovely Jacuzzi bath, great after a long walk. We could bring our dog, she also loved running the beaches and being in the fenced in garden. We didn't want to leave. the Isle of Harris is paradise!

Brilliant in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in Kilda House twice with our family and cannot find enough words to say what wonderful holidays we have had there. Where to start.... The most welcoming of hosts, the comfiest beds, beautiful views from lounge. Excellent facilities including jacuzzi, wood burner, large stove and combi micro wave, coffee maker, good washing machine, dryer. There are walks to suit all abilities right on the doorstep along with four beaches to choose from. Eating was never a problem with Croft 36 delicious meals, home made bread and the Anchorage Restaurant at a 5 min walk, great for lovely lunches or a pint in the evening. On our stays we have encountered various wildlife, including a few encounters with a golden eagle. We even helped to rescue a minke whale from the natural harbour at Leverburgh. Our hosts could not be more welcoming or helpful and we enjoyed an evening in their company on the beach with a beach fire toasting marshmallows and our good health!! Could not recommend a better place to stay.

Wonderful family house, lovely views, great base

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful accommodation.

As soon as we entered the house, we got so much impressed. This extremely clean house with all needed amenities has wonderful touches, original murals and beach floors in the bathrooms. The window seats are lovely, gazing out over the Sea Loch. A short drive from the house we walked on beaches to die for. The owners were very helpful giving us tips about the surroundings, where to fish, local shops, restaurants etc. We are planning our second stay there, nowhere better to stay on the island of Harris. The accommodation is even better than the photos on the website. Harris is a beautiful island, lots to see and do, you will not be disappointed.
