We moved to Derbyshire in 1996 having completely fallen in love with the beautiful countryside and all that the Peak District has to offer. Our children (now 16 and 18) were born here. We renovated our 16th and 17th century house- and subsequently Lavender Cottage which serves both as a holiday cottage as well as extra accommodation for our family and friends. As such we have made it a real 'home from home'- tastefully decorated and appointed, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with lots of little details to make everyone's stay as enjoyable as possible. As a keen cook I have made sure the kitchen is very well equipped. We enjoy walking, biking, eating out and generally enjoying Derbyshire and have pulled plenty of our recommendations together for you in a folder in the cottage. Should you need anything before or during your stay just get in touch- we will try and help you in any way we can.

Why Nicki chose North East Derbyshire District
What can we say? Everyone loves Lavender Cottage and is always sorry to leave due to its peaceful, rural location and wonderful views, yet at the same time being on the doorstep of so much that Derbyshire and the Peak District have to offer. The Chatsworth Estate is 10 mins drive away with its wonderful parklands as well as the House and Gardens to explore. Another 5 minutes further on is Bakewell, in the heart of the Peak District. Similarly you can be in Sheffield within 30 mins, Manchester in just over an hour and in London within 2 hours. We have been here 19 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
What makes this Cottage unique
The only thing I can add is that when we lived in Lavender Cottage for a week, while we were having a new boiler put in the main house, my husband and children decided they could easily move into the cottage permanently -deciding it was more comfortable, cosy and clutter free than our own house! In the past, two different lots of friends of ours came to stay for a couple of weeks between houses and ended up staying months- no-one ever wants to leave! We do hope you enjoy your stay.

What a great find!
A very big 'thank you' to you Nicki and your family for the use of your lovely cottage. Lavender Cottage is great - we stayed 20-24 August 2018. The cottage is a beautiful building that has been sympathetically converted to good quality holiday accommodation. We loved the little touches that made it special - including the luxurious towels and shower products, good quality china and glasses, plenty of cooking utensils and even a bottle of Prosecco to enjoy at our leisure. The garden is beautiful and the views are truly breathtaking.
There is so much to do in the area - you're almost spoilt for choice although you do need a car to get there. It is an ideal location for visiting Chatsworth House. We also did some great walks too, visiting Derwent Edge and Monsal Head and stopped in at Chesterfield to find out about the crooked spire at St Marys and All Saints Church.
Dear Sarah, Thank you so much for this great review of your stay at Lavender Cottage which we appreciate very much. You are right -the list of things to do round here is almost endless- there is something for everyone. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay so much and that the cottage helped make it so. Thank you for kind words about all the little touches which I feel make a stay just that bit more special. Do try and come back to see and do even more! Best wishes, Nicki
Lovely cottage with beautiful views
We really enjoyed our few days in Lavender cottage. Nicki was extremely helpful and the cottage had everything we needed. Our children loved playing in the grounds and sitting on the sofa in the tent! Nicki was very kind in letting us bring our 4 month old puppy along for the stay! Great base for exploring Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth House. We will return!
A beautiful cosy cottage with gorgeous views in a fantastic location
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Lavender cottage and Nikki was an exceptional host with a lovely warm welcome. The cottage was like home from home with everything you could possibly need which made our stay super relaxing with two babies under 1. We were able to enjoy the garden on the sunny days and enjoyed the cosy wood burner when it was cooler. The location is great too, so peaceful with great views but only a short drive to Bakewell and Chatsworth house. We will definitely be back. Thanks again Nikki and Nigel. The Jones and Squires. x
Superb cottage in lovely location with fantastic owners
We recently had a 4 night stay at Lavender Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The Cottage is lovely: very tastefully furnished and decorated, extremely comfortable and well equipped. It is set in tremendous gardens with lovely views over the surrounding hills and countryside. We went with our young granddaughter and she loved running around the garden, playing on the swing and picking blackberries. The owner Nicki went to great lengths to make us feel welcome at all times. We have stayed in many Home Away properties over the years and this is up there as one of the best. Can’t wait to come back again in the future.
Beautiful cosy cottage
When we arrived at Lavender cottage we were so pleased with how beautiful and clean the cottage was, we were left a bottle of sparkling wine from the owners which was a lovely touch.
The cottage itself is stunning, finished to a high standard and so very cosy, the beds were so comfortable and we slept very well due to it being so quiet!
The outdoor space is amazing, breathtaking views and so much space!
We would love to come back in winter to make use of the lovely log burner.
Very enjoyable, beautiful aspect, cottage clean, comfortable and good size
Would return here - especially pleased to be able to use the whole of the garden including the amazing tent!
Dear Carol, Thank you very much for your positive feedback here and, in addition, for your feedback and positive suggestions for improvements on the cottage feedback form that you filled in before you departed. I have already actioned these and very much appreciate you sharing your thoughts and ideas as I am always looking for ways to further improve the guest experience of staying at Lavender Cottage. Our guest satisfaction is of paramount importance to us. I am glad you enjoyed the bell tent too- we put it up for the summer months and this year furnished it with the sofa, bean bags, all the extra- large cushions and rugs. I'm really pleased with how it has worked out. It's had very good feedback from many guests who have used it as a base for reading, grabbing a quiet few hours or enjoying an evening drink. We will be keeping it up this year for a few weeks yet and definitely put it up again next year. Best wishes to you all, Nicki
