Wonderful family holidy

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect week at Willow House, we were welcomed by Chris (one of the owners) and he gave us all of the info that we would need for our stay. He was very helpful and advised us that they were local should we need any help at all. It was an extremely hot week so the pool was amazing and used every day. The kids and their grandad, loved the water cannons that the owner let them borrow.

The house itself was very clean and well equipped which is great as we were a large party. The location was really good with a bakery, chemist and pubs all within walking distance (highly recommend the old village inn).

The only slight criticisms were that the house was very hot upstairs as there were only small windows that could be opened (apart from the one fire window), and the downstairs bedroom only had doors that could be opened so it was very warm at night. There were also quite a few woodlice and dead wood lice in the carpet of this downstairs room so it could have done with a more thorough hoover.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide such valuable feedback. We're so please to hear your children and their grandfather were able to enjoy the pool in this fabulous weather. A thorough hoover will be carried out to ensure it is in a better condition for the rest of the season. In the future, please do give the office a call during your holiday with any concerns you may have, as we always want to ensure our guests enjoy their holiday and it also gives us the opportunity to rectify any issues ASAP. We hope to welcome you back to the Isle of Wight soon!

Wonderful stay in a quiet village location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Willow House, Everything was provided and, after our telephone conversation, the owners had made sure the television was on when we arrived with the England V Sweden game of the World Cup which was so thoughtful and very welcoming! The house had everything we needed to make our stay complete. Really well furnished and extremely clean. The owners are based next door and always there if you require anything at all. The swimming pool was a brilliant feature and we made full use of it every day. Also the house is based in a great village location - short walking distance either direction to a couple of Co-ops, a small Boots the chemist as well as brilliant pubs, takeaways and restaurants. About 15 minutes walk to the beach and amazing café which did superb fresh seafood. There is a BBQ provided and a very convenient fish mongers close by so plenty of fresh seafood to cook back at base.

Just a couple of small additions which would have made our stay even better. Firstly, maybe install some darker blinds in the bedrooms as they get very bright first thing on a sunny summer's morning. And perhaps some electric pedestal fans could be included as the weather was extremely hot when we visited. Luckily we had brought our own electric fans. But apart from those minor points, we have been really happy with our stay. Thank you!

Everything you need in a house!

  • 4 of 5

Two families holidaying together plenary of space with all the mod cons you could ask for very comfy spacious rooms.

Only thing I would say is single quilts on single beds is a bit of a no no these days, ok for small kids but if you've got adults in single beds then not so good, especially when it's a little cold at night as our summer nights can be. And bath mat in main bathroom. But other than that would definitely be a returning customer. 8/10

Memorable - BUT not for right reasons!

  • 3 of 5

Plus: the children really enjoyed the pool although it was not as warm as stated, but we were the first tenants of the season

Minus: There were fleas, by Wednesday we were suspicious about the bites we were getting but not sure but on Thursday morning my husband found a flea on his foot. Owners and letting agents informed. Not a few bites but by the time we left we had about fourty bites between us. To be honest we should have just left there and then but we saw the week out as the children were enjoying the pool and we had paid a lot of money.

Strong smell of cats in dining area when the sun was warm

The single mattresses were very uncomfortable could feel the springs, luckily there were two beds we didn't use so we used duvets as mattress toppers.

Downstairs loo had door into bedroom that could be opened from bedroom when you were in the loo.

No bath mat in upstairs bathroom

Only 6 dining room chairs

No hairdryer

We have had to buy medication, cream and antihistamine due to itching, coming home had to wash everything we took in hot wash to be sure we didn't bring them home with us!

I appreciate that this situation was unfortunate but it really did spoil our holiday, was not a pleasant experience at all.

I understand that the property was going to being fumigated after we left early Saturday morning.

To date although we contacted letting agents and owners have been offered no recompense for the experience of a spoilt holiday due to suffering numerous flea bites and just the stress of finding them especially with three young children.

Owner's Response: Thank you for you feedback, which we welcome and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this freak event. The owners were extremely concerned to hear of the discovery of the fleas and this has now been remedied with a fumigation of the premises and the owners are still shocked as pets are not permitted in the accommodation. They can only assume a stray cat got into the property or a previous guest may have had a pet without anyone's knowledge. Needless to say this has not happened before and will not happen again. We do not advertise a hairdryer being available and this has been referred to the owner for future bookings. With regard to the bed Home from Home did offer an additional memory foam mattress topper to aid the comfort, but this was declined. The other shortfalls are being looked into by the owner. We do appreciate fully the upset and as a company we would have to say this is a very rare event and we have not had to deal with an event like this in the past and only a few of our holiday homes are pet friendly. - Willow House is not one of them. The owners have now resolved this matter.

Bembridge & Ryde

Situated on the most easterly point of the Isle of Wight is the village of Bembridge, with a good mix of shops, pubs, restaurants and art galleries. It is a popular sailing centre with interesting houseboats (some offering afternoon tea) and shallow beaches with rock pools, offering safe bathing and hours of time beach-combing and crabbing for the kids. Bembridge has a lively small harbour, which is always well stocked with fishing boats and pleasure craft. It's also home to The National Trust Windmill, with its original machinery and built c 1700; the only one to survive on the Island. This unique landmark has been an inspiration for many artists including J M W Turner. Bembridge and Culver Wonderful Wildlife Walk and the nearby Brading & Bembridge Marsh and Down Walk are worthy of consideration for those active visitors.

Nearby St Helens Village is an archetypal Old English Village with wonderful central green which holds various events throughout the year, it has shops and pubs, a café by the its own beach as well as the popular Ganders Restaurant. St.Helens Duver is a great place to relax and look out to sea and see St. Helens Fort built around 1867 to ward off French invaders. There are also remains of its original church in evidence here.

Ryde is known for its Victorian holiday atmosphere and its miles of beautiful golden sands. A stroll along the Esplanade will take you past the ice rink, ten-pin bowling, bowling green, children's fairground, boating lake & tree climbing experience. Keep walking and you will pass the imposing Victorian folly of Appley Tower, with nearby Puckpool Park providing a great place for the children to play and the adults to relax. Beachside cafes serve much needed refreshment, and you can always take a dip in the sea or even use the local swimming pool to cool down. The listed Pier, built at the height of the Victorian era and the oldest in England still welcomes visitors from across the Solent. The town is known as the gateway to the Eastern Isle, with its foot passenger fast ferry and Hovercraft links. From here you can catch a bus to all of the Island's principal towns or take the train through to Brading, Lake, Sandown and Shanklin. The largest town on the Isle of Wight and its shops are some of the most varied, with plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from when you finish your long day's shopping.

The Isle of Wight is famous for its superb beaches, dramatic coastlines and outstanding natural beauty, the Island is a holiday haven with something for everyone. From secluded coves and wide expanses of sandy beaches it's not just the stunning landscapes that attract visitors to the Island, but the variety of things to see and do. Rich in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities as well rich in history and heritage, visitors return year after year to enjoy another holiday with Home from Home Holidays. Self-catering is the most popular option because it is both cost effective and offers flexibility with the freedom to come and go as you please.
