About Ann Spear

My name is Ann Spear and I live next door to Potts Cottage. My daughter, Christina, her husband, James and their three children, Sam, Jack and Madeleine also live on the site in the main house. We also have 2 Labrador x called Lottie and Milo.

In 2011 we renovated the barns alongside the main house to provide me with a granny annex and at the same time updated the living area of Potts Cottage and built a new bedroom and shower room.

Ann Spear purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Ann Spear chose Woodbridge

I bought the house in 1983 as I fell in love with the village of Lower Ufford and it was closer to my children's school and friends than I had previously lived. The house itself is set within a large garden which is where I spend the majority of my time and it is right at the heart of the village but on a no-through road so it is very quiet.

The village has a rural and friendly feel to it but at the same time it is close to local towns and amenities.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is well placed for some lovely walks by the sea or rivers or in the local forests and also within reach of many of East Anglia's attractions.

The property is close to main roads which makes it easy to access airports and train stations to be able to travel in this country and abroad - a pastime I enjoy immensely.

We have two excellent pubs in the village both providing good local food and there are several restaurants in the local towns and surrounding villages which will provide takeaways.

I always provide some locally sourced produce for your arrival and there are excellent butchers and farm shops close by to restock. I am always happy to help you with directions, suggestions for places to visit or shop and to make sure that your stay is relaxed and pleasurable.

Our second visit and it's still perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Potts Cottage, following a short break last year. It's still perfect! Clean, attractive, well appointed and very cosy. The area is so peaceful and surrounded by beautiful cottages and charming countryside. Nice welcome pack provided, as well as cleaning products, lovely fluffy towels and nice bedding. Dog friendly, without question. Great situation - we explored some new areas this time, including Shingle Street, Bawdsey Ferry and Waldringfield. The Deben Estuary is wonderful and less than half an hour away. There are lovely walks and a great pub in the village of Ufford itself too and Woodbridge, Southwold and Aldborough are all easy to get to. We can't fault this little gem and will definitely return.

Loved the property and the beautiful garden it was in. Owners were very welcoming and welcome pack of wine, rolls, ham etc was very appreciated. Beautiful county for walking and plenty to do. Woodbridge 10 mins away by car was great set on the river. The Local pub The White Lion had great food and is only 2 minutes walk away from cottage. Thank you Anne for letting us stay in your lovely cottage. we would definitely like to come and stay again.

Lovely cottage, the owner has thought if everything you might need, plus some goodies.

Couldn't fault the cottage and the village is delightful. One word of caution for anyone with dogs, you are surrounded by water meadows and fields of cows, I had two stinky dogs to deal with, so had to keep them on leads!

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind words. I would just point out that there are many months when there are no cows on the water meadows. Bliss for dog owners! This year we have only had them there the last couple of weeks. None in the Spring. The grass was left and cut for hay.
