About Ian and Sheila McLeish

Ian and Sheila McLeish have owned the property in a quietly hidden Conservation Area of Edinburgh for many years. During much of this time however they have lived and worked abroad mainly in Central America and The Sultanate of Oman. They love living in this part of the city which is extremely quiet with a true sense of community but with ease of access to both Holyrood Park where they spend much time walking with their black labrador, Monty and also to the city which is a short distance away.

Why Ian and Sheila McLeish chose Edinburgh

Our property is located in the Blacket Conservation Area, a small area encompassing 5 streets built in both Georgian and early Victorian times in the grounds of the now demolished Newington House in what was to become the first southern suburb of the city of Edinburgh. Lying between two major arterial roads, the area is extremely quiet with very little through traffic. However, there a large number of bus routes only a short walk away with routes which will take you to most areas of Edinburgh.

If you prefer more outdoor pursuits, Arthurs Seat ( the mountain within a city) and Salisbury Crags are within easy walking distance and golf is available at Priestfield Golf Club.

The completely refurbished Commonwealth Swimming Pool is 5 minutes walk away.This should reopen in the spring of 2012.

What makes this apartment unique

The houses of this area are very fine examples of Georgian and Victorian architecture.

Number 9 Dryden Place was built in the 1860s and has a wealth of Victorian features, high ceilings, large rooms, intricate cornicing and working shutters.Careful upgrading however, ensures a well designed kitchen/dining room with all fitted modern appliances and bath / shower rooms.

The house was divided many years ago and the property available for rent forms the upper 2 floors of this large building. The views from the windows to the front of the house are quite spectacular, looking onto the hills of Holyrood Park. To the back, the views are over the gardens of Blacket to the Pentland Hills beyond.

The city centre, the hills and many local amenities make this a great place to work and play!

What a great place to stay!

We loved our time at this beautiful home. The owners greeted us the night we arrived, and showed us about, then they were off on vacation. We had no problems with anything. The place is huge, and if you are a fan of a little feeling of extra presences the top floor is for you. Nothing bad, just 3 out of the 4 of us came downstairs separately and all mentioned feeling something "extra" upstairs. However, the place is HUGE, two full stories with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths, beautiful, clean and has everything you could possibly want. We totally wish we could have stayed longer than just 2 nights. We will definitely try to stay there again if we are lucky enough to come back to Scotland!

Lovely spacious apartment in a quiet location

Home from home. Ideal for us seven adults on a long weekend. Quiet location with 20 min walk to Old town and great view of Arthur’s Seat. Lovely big kitchen and 2 bath/shower rooms with plenty of hot water. Great value compared to more central places if you don’t mind a walk. Or Uber for £5-£10.

Charming, large apartment in great part of Edinburgh

The apartment met all the needs of our party of six adults very well. Beds were comfortable, the flat spacious, tidy and well appointed - our stay was wonderful. There are plenty of choices for restaurants within a short distance and Old Town is also easily achievable on foot. The apartment is located a short walk from Holyrood Park/Arthur's Seat in a quiet residential area with views of Sheila's wonderful garden on one side and Arthur's Seat on the other. Take the time to scale Arthur's Sea and enjoy the view! Thank you Ian and Sheila for providing us with a great place to stay for our time in Edinburgh!

Great apartment in a great location and VGVFM

This was the perfect base for a group of six to explore Edinburgh from. It has everything anyone would need and great views of Arthur’s Seat as well. We would recommend it!
