Wonderful space, lovely hosts, gorgeous views, and musk oxen...what more could one want? :)
We stayed at Hannah and Ray's home and had a fantastic time. The welcoming touches were so thoughtful. Every detail was perfect but the misty sunrises over the trees were our favorite. The property is gorgeous and the home is comfortable. We will definitely be telling friends and family to book here in the future!

Country bliss
A beautiful stay in the woods in an immaculate sunny apartment. The oxen were awesome and the maple sugar house quite an operation. The property also boasts a beaver pond with dams and all. A beautiful stay any season of the year. Hannah was most helpful and friendly. It was special being greeted with a bottle of wine pancake mix maple sugar made on the property snd a refrigerator filled with butter milk snd orange juice. The apartment is quiet and the o my sounds are from the breezes gently blowing

Wonderful hosts greeted us as we arrived. The guest house was warm and welcoming.
The property had main residence home plus the guest house above the carriage house . It couldn’t have been a more perfect place to stay for our all too short visit in Vermont. Hannah was a wonderful hostess and provided us with all the fixing for breakfast. There are oxen on the property which we made time to visit which added to a wonderful stay. Mountain View’s in the daytime and brilliant star gazing at night made it perfect place for us to stay.

About the host

Hosted by Hannah and Ray Morvan

Host profile image
Sweet Retreat is owned by Ray and Hannah Morvan, who built the Guesthouse for short- and long-term rentals to accommodate Norwich University and central Vermont visitors. Hannah, a retired elementary school teacher, and member of the Vermont Philharmonic is also active in the family's state-of-the art maple sugaring business, Sweet Retreat Sugarworks, and assists her husband and grandchildren with the show oxen. Ray, an entrepreneur and wonderful storyteller, also runs a stone and a firewood business and offers customized etched bottles for their syrup operation. He trains show oxen, along with his grandchildren, and participates in fairs around New England.

Why they chose this property

Sweet Retreat is home to the Morvan family, the sugarmaking operation and Heritage Ox Farm. The guesthouse is an extension of the multi-faceted family business and is located near the mainhouse on 400 acres, yet is easily accessible to I-89, downtown Northfield and adjoining towns.

What makes this property unique

Sweet Retreat offers scenic views, 400 acres of natural beauty and quietude, with seven miles of trails for all season recreation. The beautifully maintained grounds, the state-of-the art 5500 tap sugaring operation, and 4 teams of show oxen make this a unique Vermont experience.
