About the property

Tizzy Barn - a barn conversion that sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

A beautiful barn conversion that boasts superb open plan living downstairs yet maintains a traditional feel. There is a cosy wood burning stove and comfy sofas which will make it a treat for a winter break. At the other end of the building is a set of French windows that open out into the enclosed patio garden. Upstairs the master bedroom has bi-fold doors to a Juliet balcony and an en-suite shower room. Also on this small working farm is a well stocked carp lake, a children's play area and the opportunity to feed Ruby - the farm's friendly, rare breed Berkshire pig.

Tizzy Barn is wonderfully located a few miles inland from Crackington Haven which has pebbles and rock pools at the top of the beach but as the tide goes out a vast expanse of golden sand is exposed with some of the best surf on the north coast. To the north is Widemouth bay and the bustling tourist town of Bude while to the west is the stunning and infamous village Boscastle, nestled in a steep valley where the river has cut a way through the steep cliffs to the sea. There are secluded coves, majestic views, wildlife and even a blow hole.

Accommodation

Ground Floor: The front door leads into the open plan ground floor of the barn. At one end is the kitchen/dining area with a large island unit including integral fridge and freezer. There is a range of fully fitted units and a dining table and chairs. A set of French doors lead to the garden. At the other end of the property are comfortable sofas, a wood burning stove and flatscreen TV with Freeview. Stairs leading to:

First Floor: The stairs open on to a landing area that has doors leading to: Master bedroom with 5' bed, storage, bi-fold doors to Juliet balcony with rural views and an en-suite shower room with WC and hand basin. Family bathroom with P shaped bath and shower over, WC and hand basin. Twin bedroom. Second double bedroom with 4'6" bed and storage.

Exterior: There is a private drive with parking for up to 3 cars. The garden is enclosed but would not detain the most experienced dog escapologists. There is garden furniture and a kettle barbecue.

Facilities & Services

Downstairs has an under-floor electric heating system while there are electric on demand radiators upstairs. There is also a wood burning stove. The kitchen has a range of cupboards & work tops. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, toaster, kettle and separate fridge & freezer. There is a dishwasher. Beautiful Barn

  • 5 of 5

Tizzy Barn is a wonderful place for a family holiday.

The barn itself is wonderfully situated on the farm , with fantastically friendly people who are always on hand to answer any questions yout may have.

We would most definitely come back again.

The barn is very modern and has everything you need for your stay. The wood burning stove and open plan kitchen make it very cosy for a family evening .

Very friendly owners who were eager to please

The accommodation was very good for the price of the property and was most suitable for us and our two dogs

Unfortunately they were unable to get the internet to work during our stay although they did try

Tizzy Barn Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Tizzy Barn might be out of the way for some people, with transport it's no problem. Its so peaceful and relaxing out of the hustle and bustle of everyday life but really only a short distance from everywhere.

Tizzy Barn is very well equipped in every way. It even has a fishing lake a short stroll down the lanes. The lake is very well stocked with massive carp and it's free with your stay. Even we managed to catch up to 15 to 20 of other different spiecies on sweet corn each session.

Ok so the broadband signal is not good, mobile signals vary but hey no problem for any of us.

We have stayed in many rented accommodation over the last 20 years and can honestly say it's a great place to stay. Would recommend to anyone.

Perfect for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We (mum, dad, 2 adult children + dog) loved our week at Tizzy Barn. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming but not interfering. The cottage is well located for beaches and is very comfortable should you wish (or need) to stay in. We've stayed in lots of cottages over the years and this is one of the best for a "get away from it all" relaxing break. Thank you!

A lovely, well equipped property in beautiful countryside.

  • 5 of 5

Tizzy Barn is a lovely comfortable property. It's well equipped with everything you need for a home from home. The owner is nearby and very welcoming, and happy for you to ask for anything you need. The only slight downside is the remote location, although to many this would be seen as a bonus. It certainly didn't bother us, but some might find the lack of local places to eat/drink slightly inconvenient as you do always need to get in the car to get anywhere. There isn't anywhere that we could find within walking distance. The local beach at Crackington Haven is a 10/15 minutes car journey and is a quiet secluded beach with a couple of nice cafes. Bude is about a 20 minute drive and the beach at Widemouth bay is perfect for families.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Tizzy Barn and would recommend for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing break.

Lovely place in the middle of nature

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is cosy, spacious, tastefully furnished and a wood stove give a very warmly atmosphere. A modern kitchen with a very good equipment, a patio and upstairs the three bedrooms and two bathrooms let us feel comfortablely. Nice welcome with flowers on the table, tea and cookies! In the middle of nature next-door to a farm, sometimes with the sounds of sheeps and cows took us in another world, far away from home! Beautiful!

Unfortunately no Wi-fi in the house, only at the patio (we had some cool and rainy days!)

Location

Tizzy Barn is located 4 miles from Crackington Haven, which is included in the best surfing beaches in England and was recommended by the Marine Conservation Society in its Good Beach Guide. The scenery in the beach area of the surrounding majestic cliffs is almost un-rivalled. At high tide, the beach is a mass of quartz-veined pebbles and large boulders but at low tide, it reveals an expanse of sand and many rock pools. Only the road separates the sea from a couple of beach shops, two superb beach cafes and a public house with a restaurant and fantastic terrace.

Fifteen minutes up the coast is Bude, a popular tourist destination for both its surfing and fantastic family beaches in Widemouth Bay. The watchful eye of the RNLI lifeguards allows for some of the best surfing in the world alongside swimming and a whole host of water-based activities. Bude today is a lovely sea-side town, the main shopping streets and inter-connecting alleyways play host to a wide range of locally owned shops, restaurants and pubs. There are boutiques, shoes, arts & crafts, jewellery, hand-made gifts and souvenirs.

A few miles inland is Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cornwall at its wildest and rich in ancient history, Bodmin Moor stretches for 30 miles through the heart of the County of Cornwall and offers spectacular walking and horse riding. With easy access to the both the A30 and the Atlantic Highway you can quickly travel up and down the South-West to enjoy some of the larger tourist attractions that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.

To the west lies the stunning and infamous village of Boscastle, it is a tiny port set in a narrow ravine, the town came into prominence recently as a result of terrible floods in the summer of 2004. In the village there is a pottery, a museum of witchcraft and several gift shops. A footpath to the left of the quayside will take you to the 'Lookout' which is a wonderful vantage point from which to view the rugged coastline. Boscastle was once a favourite meeting place of the author Thomas Hardy, and is the location for one of his novels 'A Pair of Blue Eyes'. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour as far as Long Island, where during the breeding season you may see razorbills, puffins & guillemots. There is a demanding 7 mile coastal path walk between Boscastle and Crackington Haven. There are several attractions along this stretch of coast including Strangles beach at the bottom of a large landslip with a rock arch the Northern Door. Just south of here is High Cliff which is the highest point on the Cornish coast path. Don't forget to visit Pentargon inlet which has an imposing waterfall that cascades down to the sea below.

Trethevy is a delightful hamlet, equidistant from Boscastle and Tintagel and has a history which may well go back to 250 AD when a granite post was inscribed with C DOMI N GALLO ET VOLUS – ‘For the Emperor Caesars our lords Gallus and Volusian' this can now be found outside St Piran a former monastery and now private residence, Trethevy is also home to St Nectans Glen a beautiful valley where the River Trevillet has carved its way through the slate and formed a beautiful 60' waterfall.

On Bodmin Moor, Dozmary pond is thought to contain Arthur's Excalibur, and Merlin is thought to be still found walking under Tintagel Island. Camelford is a great centre for touring, walking, fishing, swimming or surfing holidays. The town is steeped in history and has excellent shopping and sporting facilities. Port Isaac is the location of the televisions series Poldark and more recently Doc Martin, as well as being a gorgeous working fishing village. Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book. The famous Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths for 18 miles, providing the whole family with a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge, and out to Padstow where you can sample Rick Steins famous Fish and Chips. The market town of Launceston is the capital of Cornwall and well worth a visit to see the church of St Mary Magdelene, with granite carvings, unusual among Cornish churches.
