This ancient Mas is a wonderful base for quiet or busy holidays, with new places and old haunts to discover on every visit; our tenants return again and again. The house, with attractive balcony, faces south with a superb view over olive groves and vineyards. In the courtyard, you can hide quietly with a book under the mulberry tree, or hang out on the terrace under the fig tree, or just laze by the pool in the shade or sun. We rent it out only part of the year because it is our home in the sun - it feels like a home and we immediately relax there. It is set on the plain in the Garrigues, some 10km from the medieval town of Uzes, famous for its palace, the unusual circular plan and a picturesque market. It is located in a working village with its own 'cave', school, La Mairie, and a good restaurant.

About Ann Bessey
When we arrive our spirits lift as we park the car, just off the track, under the canopy and rush to unlock the gates. Across the courtyard, the front door is in the corner of the tiled dining terrace, shutters are to be unlocked and then you can enter into the cool welcoming house. Take your bags to your rooms, using the outside stone stair via the balcony or open the ground floor bedrooms and settle yourselves there. The barn (Remise) on the right-hand side has a small table that you can place in the shade under the mulberry tree. There is the table tennis table and barbecue equipment too. Go to the private enclosed pool garden with its sunbathing terrace overlooking our olive grove! But first things first, turn on the fridges , make tea and have a drink! Be at home and enjoy yourselv

Why Ann Bessey chose Baron
We visited Mas de Sarrel as guests, fell in love with it and bought it from a mutual friend 11 years ago. It is just heaven, calm and restoring. A time here gives you back your sanity. With its own shaded courtyard and separate private pool garden, it is convenient, spacious and safe for all ages, particularly families and old friends. It is a wonderful cool base for quiet or busy holidays with new places and old haunts to discover on every visit. There is something for everyone here near Uzes and there is just too much to do - why not go canoeing in the Gard or the Ardeche rivers? or have you thought of music events around Uzes? Don't forget you will dream of relaxing after lunch in the cool of the house.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The old Mas, with attractive balcony and tree-shaded dining terrace, faces south with a superb view over the olive groves and vineyards. In the courtyard, you hide quietly with a book or play scrabble with a youngster, shaded by a mulberry tree. At the same time, others can hang out on the terrace under the fig tree or go swimming in the pool garden. The courtyard is even gravelled for playing boule! Beyond the courtyard is the private garden pool, with pool hut and sunbathing terrace. Here you can escape to snooze or just enjoy watching your family in the pool in a beautiful place. Why not send the young to play bat and ball in the olive grove below the house or play table tennis in the Remise?

Mas de Sarrell Revisted
After many years, we revisited the Mas this summer. Having previously stayed when our children were young, with wonderful memories of peaceful happy times, we wanted to relive those memories with our children and grandchildren - were we disappointed- No we weren't!!! The Mas was everything we remembered with the one positive addition of a new internal staircase. The house is spacious, rustic and homely, with everything you need, outside the enclosed courtyard provides a safe play area for the little ones, the table tennis in the barn offered hours of competitive games between my grandson and anyone who wanted to play him, and the pool with its views across vineyards offers endless hours of fun, and talking of the views - wow!!! If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives, this is definitely the place for you, with the most noise coming from the birds!!
I can't really put into words just how much I/we love this house, for the house, the surroundings and those views! And if you need any other reasons to book, there's a fantastic restaurant (walkable) just on the main road which is next door to a superb vineyard, the Mas is a 10 minute drive from Uzes, which holds a fantastic market on a Saturday and I could go on, and on!
I hope that one day I can visit again, thank you Anne
Wonderful place to stay
We arrived at Mas Sarrel after a rail journey from London to Avignon, just in time to witness the annual bull-running in Baron, an exhilarating and hilarious experience, repeated 5 times over the weekend and the perfect introduction to a wonderful week. The house is exactly what we were looking for - spacious, private while being close to the village, clean, a great feeling of being a family home, lots of things to do.. and, of course, the swimming pool, and games room. We walked to the next door village for croissants and baguettes every morning, explored some of the local farms and walks, went on expeditions to Nimes, Uzes (what a market!), Pont du Gard and into the Cevennes, But best of everything was the bull-running. It was a perfect holiday for us, matched by the Besseys being always approachable and concerned for our stay to be as enjoyable as possible. As far as we were concerned, ten out of ten. A perfect week.
Mas du Sarrel
We have just returned from our second stay at the Mas du Sarrell, after having another lovely relaxing family holiday. There were 10 in our party, ages ranging from 8-83, and the different bedroom options really suited our needs. Last year was our first stay in this region of France, and we didn't have time to go to all the various places, nearby, hence our return visit this year! We went to Uzes, Nimes, Avignon, Pont du Gard last year, and this year we went to the Camargue, Arles, Orange and Pont du Gard again, this year.We loved Castillon du Gard with its views over to Pont du Gard. There are several good resturants around, when we didn't fancy a BBQ at home.
The Mas is like home from home, with many home comforts. Sitting under the canopy with a glass of wine, with a good book over a hot lunchtime, or a fierce family game of Scrabble, in the evening was such fun. The pool is fantastic, with many "supersoaker" games taking place, or quiet sunbathing, when the younger members had retreated inside!
The owner was always prompt in answering e-mails, and also happy to answer any questions we had.
The property was clean and well maintained. The information inside the Mas, about the house, and places to visit, was also very comprehensive. There was a good supply of books to read, if your own supplies ran out.
We are considering whether to return next summer, for our third visit.
I fully recommend a stay here!

There is a bread delivery to the centre of the village each morning at 9.30am.
There are two boulangeries with a tabac at 4 kilometres and supermarket and petrol at 4.5 km.
Fruit markets are held at villages along the road, but the main market is on Saturday or Wednesday at Uzes (10km.). It is cheaper to family shop at the supermarkets in Ales (16km).
