Casa Mojo is a secluded villa in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada National Park. Set on a terraced hillside amongst 100 olive trees, the villa is a uniquely designed house, built in 2006, consisting of a spacious octagonal living area and two generous bedrooms sleeping 4 adults both with en-suite bathroom facilities. In the large double bedroom there is a day-bed which can accommodate up to 2 children or up to 2 cots for babies. The villa is finished to a high standard with contemporary interior space complementing traditional architecture. Casa Mojo is surrounded by an acre and a half of olive, orange, lemon and almond terraces with magnificent views of the majestic Sierra Lujar and beyond the sparkling Mediterranean. An inviting 9 by 5 metres swimming pool, enclosed by a safety fence and gate sits in splendor just below the house. Internet access now available.

About Jo Cove

The property is jointly owned by friends Kath & Mark, Jo & Will. We all became great friends after spending a month sharing a house in Goa, India in 1996. We have all remained the greatest of friends and shared lots of travels and fun times since. In 2004 we had this mad idea that we’d build a house in Spain.

We ended up buying this beautiful plot of land and then spent a couple of years camping and sleeping in our hammocks on the land whilst we watched our jointly designed house slowly being built and coming to life.

We had a brilliant time at Casa Mojo. We really enjoyed the walks – GR7 from Pampaneiro to Canar, GR142 Lanjaron to Orgiva and the round town route.

Never had such a well fitted out kitchen area in a rental before – very much appreciated.Having your own almonds and olive oil is very cool!

Notes on accommodation: Both the villa and pool are very family friendly. We have a range of appliances for babies and toddlers, including a highchair, a booster seat and a bumbo with table. We also have 2 travel cots for babies and toddlers and a daybed for older children. We have built up a good range of indoor and outdoor toys, books and jigsaws for babies and young children to help keep the children entertained. The pool has a brand new safety fence with magnetic safety latch gate to keep toddlers and small children safe from the dangers of water. There is a swing and a couple of hammocks to play in on one of the terraces next to the house. Outside: Casa Mojo sits in an acre and a half of olive terraces. There is a decked eating area, with table and chairs which is shaded by a pergola covered by climbing plants. The gardens are bordered by fragrant lavender and rosemary hedges, and there are more culinary herbs for you to use in cooking. Feel free to explore the grounds and in season pick yourself some oranges, almonds, figs, lemons and pomegranates. There are plenty of grassy areas to explore or sit and catch the sun, listen to the water trickling along the ancient acequia’s, admire ancient trees, or relax in one of the hammocks. An inviting swimming pool sits in splendour just below the villa. Measuring 9 by 5 metres and reaching 1.6m at the deep end the pool gives ample swimming and playing space for all. The pool is surrounded by a hardwood decked area, ideal for lounging on one of the sun-beds. To offer the family complete peace of mind, the pool is enclosed by a safety fence with a magnetic closing gate. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen, towels and pool towels are all included. These are changed weekly. The property is cleaned before arrival. Extra cleaning during your stay can be arranged. Other: Al fresco dining is on the decked terrace on the south side of the house, overlooking the pool and breathtaking views of the valley and mountain ridge. A large BBQ is situated beside the decked terrace.

From the first day of booking, the owners were helpful and efficient. It is perhaps the best equipped hose we have stayed in. Everything had been thought of and it felt like home from the moment we arrived. The pool area was fantastic and a great place to “hang out” as a family. The access to the property is interesting and you do need to be confident in your driving ability and your car needs decent ground clearance. Fabulous holiday.

A superb villa with excellent salt water pool.

This is a very well equipped and well maintained villa.

Gas BBQ.

The driveway is steep, but with care we managed to negotiate it with a Ford Focus Estate, although either a shorter or higher wheel base would have been easier.

Drinking water is obtained from the springs in Lanjaron, but this wasn’t a significant problem provided we remembered to take 6L water bottles with us when going to or through the village.

We hired mountain bikes and booked horse rides with the stables in Lanyaron and Órgiva, which were both excellent ways of seeing the hills!

Stunning mountain retreat

Fantastic property set in an idealic location. The facilities and layout of the property are excellent and make a perfect family holiday home. The pool was fantastic and kept the kids entertained. We also enjoyed the extensive garden an picking fresh figs, lemons and almonds from the many trees. Great wildlife without having to move from the pool!. Great location for exploring the alpajurra region, as well as Granada and the andalucian coast.

The pool is such a hit with children and yes, you were there at a great time for figs, lemons and almonds, although each time of the year seems to brings something to pick from the trees. Car: necessary


The nearest beaches are at Motril and at the old Arab fortress town of Salobreña, a half hour drive through fabulous scenery to the south. Here you can eat in the excellent fish restaurants and visit the old Arab fortress. La Herradura, a little further along the coast, is in a dramatic bay, with some wonderful beach bars and restaurants.


Malaga airport is 140km from Casa Mojo, approximately a 1 hour 30 minute drive and Granada airport only 60km, under an hour away. A car is highly recommended.


Casa Mojo is situated 500m off the main road up a concrete track, in between the interesting towns of Orgiva and Lanjaron, both 5km away. Orgiva is a bustling place with a colourful Thursday market. Lanjaron is a noted mountain spa town and known as the gateway to the Alpujarras. It's home to a lovely shaded park and an interesting ruined Moorish castle. Both offer a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafes, banks supermarkets and Internet cafes.

Further Details:

The villa is named ‘Casa Mojo’ as the area it sits in is called ‘ La Mojoneras’, meaning ‘markerstones’, which are white stones on the land to mark out the borders between properties. ‘Mojo’ is a shortened version of this. The villa is set in an acre and a half at an altitude of 650m above sea level, with magnificent views of the valley and mountains, olive and almond terraces intermixed with oranges, lemons and pomegranates. Nearby is a wild rocky hillside, glorious with thyme, rosemary, gorse and broom from autumn to spring. The terraces look their best in the spring, dappled with poppies and borage amongst clovers and grass. You can weave your way along the terraces from top to bottom, or use the naturally crafted steps to take you to the lower terraces.

The pool is available for the months May to September. Because of its secluded position the villa and grounds are a perfect spot for complete relaxation. Please note: Young children must be supervised in and around the pool at all times. NO DIVING as the pool is not deep enough.

The swimming pool and nearby ‘acequia’s (irrigation stream) attract a lot of wild life. The arrival of the swallows, followed by the bee eaters is a joyful experience. Hoopoes dip over the terraces and eagles and other birds of prey swoop down from the mountains. A pair of eagles can often be seen soaring on the ridge above the villa. Lizards and geckos abound as well as intriguing praying mantis and numerous butterflies and moths.

The valleys and foothills between the Sierra Nevada and the coastal range are of great interest to walkers, birdwatchers, botanists, writers and painters. There are many activities including pony trekking, paragliding, golf and skiing. The last outpost of the Moors after the fall of Granada in the 16th Century, their Berber villages dot the mountain sides. The small towns of Orgiva and Lanjaron are both a 10 minute car ride away, where you can find all the shops and conveniences you will need.
