About the property

Glencourt Apartments

Refurbished to an extremely high standard this beautiful Victorian house has all the classic charm of years gone by but has all the modern comforts of today.

Each apartment has been lovingly restored and where possible the original features have been kept such as the marble fireplace and the high ceilings with coving. This gives a feeling of space and airiness that is hard to find in modern accommodations.

All of our apartments have a fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, cooker, fridge, iron, ironing board and hairdryer to make sure that your stay is as comfortable as can be.

Freshly laundered bed clothes and towels are also provided.

Laundry facilities are available also to guests free of charge.

Maps and information leaflets are provided in the apartment to help guests choose the best sights and things to do and see while staying there.

There is an excellent bus service right outside the front door so you can reach downtown in 10 minutes or less. Buses run regularly and are reliable. We suggest getting a Leap card to make life easier as most buses require exact change.

We are just a 3 minute walk from the supermarket which also has a pharmacy, bakery and butchers so you will have everything you need.

There are some lovely restaurants just 10 minute walks away and some wonderful pubs that play Irish music nightly.

The famous Guinness Storehouse is close at hand as well as the Jameson Distillery both of which run tours regularly and are worth a visit. Dublin is also renowned for it's famous Temple bar area for entertainment which is a bus ride away.

For art lovers the Irish Museum of Modern Art is 15 minutes away and the National Museum of Ireland is 10 minutes away.

Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol, Ryan's Victorian Pub, St. Patricks Cathedral, are just some other of the many wonderful attractions that are available.

If you enjoy a stroll in the park then you are perfectly located to visit the beautiful Phoenix Park which has a playground and houses Dublin Zoo. It is well worth a visit and is only an 8 minute walk away. Bike hire is available here also.

For a small fee we can provide an airport transfer if requested and for anyone hiring a car there is free on street parking right outside the house.

All utilities and WiFi are included in the price also.

We hope we have provided enough information here for you but please don't hesitate to contact us if you need any further details.

Bike hire in the Phoenix Park which is just 8 minutes walk away.

I manage to meet most guests on arrival but if I can't I nearly always get to meet them before they check out.

I'm always available by phone or email and am happy to assist guests in any way I can.

If I'm unable to meet guests on arrival I will email details of where to find the keys on arrival.

This is a residential area and our property is located on a beautifully tree lined which runs right up the the entrance of the Phoenix Park. This park is the largest urban park in Europe and houses Dublin Zoo and the presidential home and offices as well as a children's playground. It is a wonderful park to visit and spans over 1750 acres.

The street also has beautiful Victorian red bricked houses all along it which date back to the 18th century so it really is a taste of old Dublin.

There is a major supermarket just 3 minutes walk as well as a pharmacy, bakery, coffee shops, bars, restaurants and many other amenities all within easy walking distance.

There are several bus routes right outside the house which will take you directly to the city centre in less than 10 minutes.

The 46A is a bus that stops right outside the house and will take you straight into the city. Busses are regular and reliable and we suggest getting a Leap card to make paying fares a little easier. This is available from most newsagents.

You can walk to the centre of Dublin as well in approx 30 minutes.

We are just a few minutes from the light rail system called "The Luas" which services the outer regions of Dublin if you plan on exploring outside of the city centre.

Heuston Train station is approx 10 minutes by car and Connolly Station is approx 25 minutes by car.

Taxis can be arranged upon request and if you need an airport transfer we can arrange this also for a fee.

About Liam & Fiona Travers

I come from a family background in the hospitality industry.

I grew up in Kildare which is about 45 minutes from Dublin and worked for many years in my parents hotel there.

I emigrated to New York for a number of years and when I returned in 1990 I purchased this property in Dublin City.

As I am a qualified builder and carpenter I undertook to restore this house over a number of years and restore it to some of its former glory. As you can see from the pictures there are a lot of original features which I managed to retain and I am pleased that I can finally share them with people from all over the world.

I am now living in Kildare again and am married with a daughter.

As my parents before me I am committed to providing all of my guests with a wonderful holiday experience in a beautiful period house. I am available at all times for my guest either by phone or email and am happy to answer any query.

Liam & Fiona Travers purchased this apartment in 1990

Why Liam & Fiona Travers chose Arran Quay

I chose this location for the proximity to the city centre and of course the beautiful Victorian Redbrick lined North Circular Road.

These properties are a feature of Dublin and are preserved by Dublin Council. The fact that the Phoenix Park and the Botanic gardens are within walking distances is an absolute plus, providing plenty of recreational activity. Numerous pubs, restaurants are within walking distance and I feel that the house provides a sense of character and charm not matched by modern buildings and houses.

What makes this apartment unique

There are a number of benefits to staying in this property. Located close to the heart of the city of Dublin there is an excellant transport system by bus and light rail that means all of the sights can be visited with the minimum of fuss. The building itself is a beautiful Victorian property that has unique charm while offering all the modern comforts that a guest could expect.

The location is ideal as it is quiet while being convenient to all shopping, sights, transport, museums etc. that makes a holiday. Located beside the Phoenix park which is Europe's largest urban park the traveller can have a taste of the country while still remaining in the city.

There truly is something for everyone.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My 6 friends and myself had a wonderful stay! Liam was super intentional about checking in and making sure we had everything we needed. The place was clean and equipped with the necessities. Location was great if you plan on using the bus system in Dublin. We were able to get around very easily. Also, we highly recommend booking airport transport if needed. Liam provided the same taxi driver for both our arrival and departure trips and we loved him! Thank you Liam!

Great property! Would gladly stay here again. Convenient and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed having a home away from home. It was very conveniently located to bus routes, stores and a short walk to L Mulligan Grocer, a great pub. Liam and Fiona were great hosts offering all assistance we needed while giving us our space to explore as we desired. Dublin is a great city and Ireland is so beautiful. We hope to come back and would definitely stay here again.

Nice apartment close to Phoenix Park

  • 4 of 5

we stayed 3 days for New year in this apartment and had a lovely time. we were 12 and took 3 apartments. this one is bright and well furnished. The bed room is nice and 2 couples stayed in the living room.

The location is nice close to phoenix park and not too far from the city center (20 mins walk). Liam and Fiona helped us for the pickup at the airport and provided some good plans.

Clean comfortable and well equipped.

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was restored very well and kept the integrity of the Victorian period. The walk to the city center was further than we anticipated. Once we figure out the bus system we got to town quickly. Information on bus numbers, once we received it was helpful. Having clear information up front would have been helpful.. We used the bus, the light rail and DART. The local Irish people were very eager to help us with where to get off and on for our desired location. Be prepared for no electrical outlet in the bathroom. Using a hair dryer was a challenge because outlet was not close to a mirror. We enjoyed our stay. Comments are meant to be helpful ideas.

Owner's Response: Hi Karen Thank you for taking the time to write this review. There is an information book in the apartment with bus routes and timetables so I apologise if this wasn't apparent to you. We are available at all times for any queries and would have happily answered your questions. In Ireland there are no electrical outlets in any bathroom as it is against regulations. However the hairdryer can be plugged into any of the sockets around the bedroom and the mirror can be moved. Hope to see you back at Glencourt again sometime Liam and Fiona

Nice apartment. Had all the amenities you would need.

  • 4 of 5

Everything was great. The only suggestion I would have is a little more information on bus schedules. Mainly which routes to take to get to main attractions As s first time visitor that part was a little overwhelming. But the apartment and location were wonderful. We arrived arly and Liam and Fiona allowed us to check in earlier. That was very nice.

Very nice flat

  • 4 of 5

This is a very nice flat. Spacious and fully equipped. Owner Liam is very nice and friendly. He waited to meet us on the day we arrived and provided fruits and bread for us. He also gave us a brief orientation of the surroundings on map. We had a great time staying here.

The only draw back is that the isolation of the house is not very good due to the age of the flat. It depends on which floor you stay and also who your neighbors are going to be. I guess it is only by luck! Our first half of stay was great. But we had a noisy neighbor above us for the last two nights. It sounded like they were moving furniture around at middle of the nights for some reason. So it was hard to sleep with all that noise.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write this review for us. Sorry about the noise upstairs, I don't know what they could have been possibly moving around. Take care Liam

Perfect location... lovely hosts ...great vacation

  • 5 of 5

My adult daughter and I spent a very enjoyable 6 nights at Glencourt Apartments in the WB Yeats suite. The unit is clean and comfortable – with lots of room to settle in. Two full size sofas and dining set. The bedroom with two beds ( 1 queen and one single) was perfect for our needs. The location was excellent! Right on a main road, where you can catch a bus into the city centre – but quiet enough not to disturb. You can also walk into the city centre no problem! Phoenix Park is just down the street. Numerous grocers, cafes, pubs in the area to enjoy. I cannot say how much we appreciated the proximity to things as it was our first time in Dublin. Liam and Fiona are fantastic hosts right from booking on! They kept in contact and made sure we were taken care of in terms of getting from the airport to the apartments and if we had any questions or concerns they responded immediately. They made everything easy-peasy for us! I would recommend staying here for sure and certainly plan to come back soon!

Car: not necessary

This house is a beautiful Victorian building on a tree lined street adjacent to the Phoenix Park and and Botanic Gardens situtated just 10 minutes by bus from the city centre.

There is an excellent public transport service right outside the front door so a car isn't necessary.

There is a major supermarket just 3 minutes walk away as well as a pharmacy, bakery, butchers, medical centre and a laundromat for guests that need this facility.

There are cafes, pubs and restaurants all within easy walking distance (max 10 minutes) and one pub in particular plays traditional Irish music nightly and has to be visited during your stay. It's an old Irish pub and people gather nightly to play here. Not to be missed!

There are also excellent restaurants so if you don't want to cook you could pop into L. Mulligan's Bistro (check out the review it got in the NY Times), Plan B, Cucina, My Thai and various cafes for that all important cup of coffee and chat.

We have eaten in all of these establishments and we couldn't fault any of them so rest assured that you won't be disappointed.

If you plan on eating in the city then it's only a short bus ride or walk to find a wealth of restaurants and places to eat that will take your breath away. The quality and standard of food in Dublin not to mention the variety is second to none so there really is something for everyone.

There are also some takeaways nearby so if you don't want to cook or if you don't want to venture out this is an option also.

Following is a list of the some of the sights you would enjoy in Dublin.

All are within easy reach of our property and while there are many more than listed here we thought we would give you some to start with.

Top 10 sights close to our apartment

1. Phoenix Park - Europe's largest urban park and houses Dublin Zoo is just a 10 minute walk

2. Guinness Storehouse - 20 minutes

3. Trinity College - Houses the famous and beautiful Book of Kells is only 10 minutes by bus

4. The National Botanic Gardens - 15 minute by bus

5. The National Gallery of Ireland - 15 minute by bus

6. Farmleigh House - also in the Phoenix Park which is a 10 minute walk

7.St. Patrick's Cathedral - 15 minutes by bus

8. National Museum of Ireland - 15 minutes by bus

9. Kilmainham Gaol - 15 minutes by bus

10. Jameson Distillery - 10 minutes walk

These are only some of the wonderful sights that are on our doorstep.

Each apartment has information on the fantastic things to do and see while in Dublin and of course we are happy to recommend other things to see and do while you are here.

Excellant tourist offices are also dotted throughout the city which can provide information on day trips, tours and other excursions that might be of interest.

Finally we want to assure you that we take great pride in our house and our apartments. We are committed to providing a quality stay and I have personally restored the apartments myself over the last 5 years.

Cleanliness and value for money are our priority and we aim to provide each guest with wonderful memories of a holiday in Dublin in a wonderful restored Victorian house.

We look forward to meeting you.
