About this property

Holiday Home In St Sernin De Duras, Lot Et Garonne, Aquitaine, France

'Our Home' in St Sernin de Duras is a lovely peaceful place in which to unwind and re charge the batteries. It is surrounded by rolling vine covered countryside with some beautiful roads and tracks in which to run or cycle. The friendly French village boasts a 'tabac', tennis courts and an excellent restaurant with live entertainment. The Dordogne at Port St Foye (15 mins) has a beach with swimming and play area, which is excellent for both children and adults alike. The nearby hilltop town of Duras, typically French and unspoilt, has a weekly street market with stalls selling colourful local produce. There are shops, pavement bars in the square and an ancient chateau with a fascinating museum of past French life. Throughout the summer there are many events eg The Duras wine festival, antiques fairs and spectacular firework extavaganza set to music with the Chateau as its backdrop. All around are family run vineyards, where you can visit to taste and buy their wines.

Lovely stay in Saint-Sernin
We had a fantastic holiday here - the house had all the benefits, and none of the disadvantages, of the fact that the owners normally live here. Everything was well-equipped and in good working order, with a tasteful blend of modernity and some lovely old-style furniture, so it felt homely in the best way. Sometimes in an owner's own property, there can be problems with owners leaving their own possessions lying around in drawers and wardrobes, but there was no such problem here. Communication with Angie leading up to the holiday, and during, was excellent - she always replied promptly and helpfully (even though I sometimes didn't match her promptness, sorry about that!) The garden and terraces allowed us to really enjoy the good weather, the neighbourhood was pretty and tranquil, and we felt very relaxed the whole time. In the wider area, there was a good range of things to do - maybe not as much as in some parts of France, but certainly enough to keep us busy for a week, with two teenagers and a young adult. Would particularly recommend Lac de Gurson (swimming and canoeing in lake) ; Chateau de Duras (great guided tour, at no extra charge) ; and Chateau la Tour de Chollet (small-scale vineyard, with guided tours with a personal touch, and fine wine-tasting session to finish). Many thanks for a great holiday!

Very comfortable home form home
This was our third stay at this property. We find it provides everything you could possibly need including a very well equipped kitchen, wi-fi, sky tv and a private patio for eating and relaxing in the sun. The welcome pack includes a bottle of the local 'Berticot' wine. The house lies elevated at the head of a small cul de sac with friendly English neighbours. The village is perfectly located for easy access to many lovely villages and markets. It provides an ideal base for exploring this area of France. The visitors book is endorsed by lots of other satisfied visitors and the owners who we have had occasion to contact often via e-mail are very helpful.

STAY IN ST SERNIN
Visitors clearly benefit that the owners have fitted out the house as their home. The comfort and quality of the furnishings and equipment are above the norm. The house and immediate surroundings are pleasant, the one slightly minus factor is the part developed holiday site leading up to the house. For those who like a stroll there are many options from a short walk around the village to all day walks in the countryside, guidance maps were to hand. St Sernin is well placed between Duras & St Foy la Grande for all your essentials. We had a very pleasant stay and would return.

We are Colin & Angie live near Manchester and this is our holiday home. We have four children and work full time. We would love to retire to France and have bought this house as our retirement home. We have carefully restored the property to a high living standard, retaining much character, whilst having all the luxuries of home. We love to sit on the veranda and sip wine in one of the most beautiful regions of France. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
