About Dawn Meeks
My little 'cottage' industry started in 2002 when myself and my husband decided to restore a very run down but beautiful Yorkshire stone barn on our property. The Old Dairy was completed and has been such a success that in 2013 we opened our new cottage 'The Courtyard. Still part of our barn conversion and adjacent to The Old Dairy the cottages are perfect for 2 couples who like to holiday together but prefer their own 'space'. Our ethos in the new cottage was to create a beautiful space in the former school mistresses house. 'Affordable Luxury' was our focus and we are delighted with the outcome. I offer a unique catering service whereby I can cook and serve a freshly cooked evening meal to you in one of the cottages. Our website has full details of the current seasonal menu. www.timblecottages.co.uk
Dawn Meeks purchased this Cottage in 1997
Why Dawn Meeks chose Otley
Although we have owned the property since 1997 The Old Dairy Cottage was only converted in 2002. Once a former outbuilding and dairy the restoration was needed to preserve the structure. The reason I have chosen to have a holiday cottage in this area is that it is just the perfect environment for relaxing, walking, cycling and to tour around and enjoy the wonderful things The Yorkshire Dales has to offer. Situated in a dedicated area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' the views from the cottage take a lot to beat. It's actually so good that I live next door! It's like being on holiday for me 365 days of the year. The success of The Old Dairy encouraged us to open 'The Courtyard' in March 2013. We just couldn't supply the demand for luxury accommodation and regularly had to turn enquiries away. 3 months of hard work converting another part of our property produced The Courtyard Cottage but was well worth the effort. We are delighted with the outcome!
What makes this Cottage unique
Perfectly situated for touring around Yorkshire and no more than a few miles from most of the major places of interest. Harrogate, Skipton, Ilkley, Ripon, York, Grassington, Masham etc. etc. the list is endless. The village of Timble has a wonderful local pub/restaurant serving great food. With it being only a 2 minute walk from the cottage there is no need to drive out for a meal. Alternatively, I can serve an evening meal in the cottage. My catering business has the necessary permits to allow me to offer this service. All freshly cooked using local ingredients this is a facility quite unique to holiday cottages.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
High end cottage
Beautiful but expensive cottage with easy access to the Dales for cycling walking or driving to the National Park. Well equipped and very friendly hosts. Note local pub not open for evening meals much of the week!
thank you for taking the time to write your review.
I am sorry you feel our prices are expensive. Something that hasn't been mentioned before. We strive to stay competitive with other properties in the area, hence the fact that we are fully booked for nearly all of the year!
Our local restaurant The Timble Inn is closed on a Monday (like many restaurants) but open from Tuesday through to Sunday lunchtimes. Evening opening is Wednesday through to Saturday.
It was lovely meeting you both and very much hope to see you again sometime!
A quiet, peaceful and well appointed cottage
Tastefully decorated to a high standard with all mod cons available. Nice welcoming touch from the owner with flowers, wine and a warming glow from the log burner. The cottage is in a quiet hamlet within easy reach of places to visit and lots of country walks starting from your front door.
Thank you so much Carol and George for writing your review.
It was a pleasure to host for you!
Peaceful, tranquil and a perfect base to explore surrounding towns and cities.
We had a really relaxing stay at this lovely cottage in the beautiful setting of Timble. It was wonderful chilling out with the log burner on and a glass or two of wine. The cottage itself is decorated and furnished to a really high standard (the bathroom is gorgeous). Dawn and her husband were lovely too. Can’t fault a thing - we would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a base to visit Leeds, Harrogate, Otley or even York as it’s all nearby.
Thank you Andrea for your lovely review. I am delighted you chose The Courtyard Cottage to take a break from your very busy lives!
It was lovely meeting you both.
Relaxing break getting away from it all
Just returned from a truly relaxing 3 day break staying at the Courtyard. Dawn was a great host making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived & providing us with lots of relevant information on the cottage, the village & some great walks locally. Beautifully decorated cottage with everything you need - a home from home. Wonderful log burner that kept the cottage really cosy, especially as we had a couple of colder days. Great location for seeing more of the Yorkshire Dales, we did some lovely walks both straight from the cottage & also travelling over to the Cow & Calf rocks & walking part of Ilkley Moor - only 15-20 mins away. Can also recommend the pub in the village, had a lovely evening meal, glad we booked ahead though as they were busy. A wonderful long relaxing weekend, we will definitely return in the future.
Thank you so much Helen for taking the time to write your lovely review.
It was a pleasure to host for you on such a special occasion!
Hopefully we will see you again some sometime.
Beautiful cottage and brilliant hosts
Stayed in this beautiful cottage for two nights and it was absolutely perfect. The cottage has everything you need and had a real rural county feel. The log burner was brilliant and a great touch. Dawn and Barry are brilliant hosts, very attentive and can’t do enough for you. The food at The Timble Inn and The Square and Compass was fantastic and I would definitely recommend them. We did not want to come home from this perfect few days away. We will definitely be returning :)
Thank you for taking the time to write your review Rose. I am delighted you enjoyed staying in the cottage and hope to see you again sometime.
Thank you for leaving everything clean and tidy. I’m very grateful!
Ewen and I loved this little cottage. We received a warm welcome from Dawn and Barry and they helped us with area information which was needed to start our family research. The cozy fireplace and comfy bed made the cottage extra inviting. Totally enjoyed our stay.
