About Neil Macdonald
We, Neil and Grace Macdonald have the good fortune to be based in Linlithgow but also to have access to this picturesque Fife fishing village. Other commitments (particularly at weekends) have greatly reduced our opportunities to fully enjoy the property as we have since our purchase in 2003, hence our decision to share the experience with visitors. The enthusiastic reaction of visiting family and friends from Britain and abroad reassured us that the flat was as comfortable and welcoming as we had always found it. Come and see what we mean!
Neil Macdonald purchased this Apartment in 2003
Why Neil Macdonald chose Fife
With no knowledge of Lower Largo we stumbled upon the village and immediately fell in love with the flat itself, as well as the surrounding beach, harbour and village pub and our first impressions have survived. Typically, although we had never heard of the village before driving through it for the first time, dozens of friends and acquaintances have since raved about the place with one work colleague who used to visit every summer as a child describing it as his "favourite place on earth!"
What makes this Apartment unique
To enjoy a charming flat with so many attractions within such easy reach never fails to delight. Within 100 paces of the front door you can be breakfasting on the beach, dining in the Crusoe Hotel, sitting on a park bench overlooking the harbour, replenishing provisions in the local store, or enjoying a drink in the Railway Inn or its rear beer garden. All this in a village setting where locals and visitors alike rarely fail to say "Hello!" as they pass.

Perfect location for a quiet get away.
The apartment has just enough of the right stuff. Enough room for 4 adults and two dogs. The location is great, as advertised. Various bits of beach within a stones throw. Very fine pub within yards selling proper beers, convenience store next door. Locals are very friendly. Hour's drive to Edinburgh and 10 mins to large supermarket and takeaways. Just right for what we needed.
Lovely family break
We had such a lovely time staying in Lower Largo, the flat was perfect for a family of four and a great base for exploring different areas in fife.
Neil and Grace have made the flat feel very homely and provide everything you need to make your stay more enjoyable.
Would definitely recommend this to others and will hopefully return in the future.
We are very grateful to you for taking the time to post such complimentary words about your stay at our Lower Largo haven. We too love the flat, the village and the wider area of Fife and are so pleased you found it amenable.
Adjacent to the flat is the long sandy beach of Largo Bay with healthy walks in either direction along the Fife Coastal Path. Seek out public transport to bring you back. There are many other beaches along the coast, including the one featured in 'Chariots of Fire'.
Lower Largo is I hour drive from Edinburgh Airport, while the nearest railway stations are at Kirkcaldy (20 minutes) and Leuchars (25 minutes). Buses run for Glasgow or Edinburgh to the village - check details.
Supermarkets can be found just 3 miles away in Leven. A well stocked local shop is adjoined to the flat with further shops and services at Lundin Links, all within walking distance. St Andrews is a delight with many independent shops to tempt you.
The small village of Lower Largo is famous as the birthplace of the real life Robinson Crusoe, whose statue is prominently displayed in the village. There are many places to go and things to do in and around the East Neuk and something to suit everyone. St Andrews is a delight to visit, including the Botanic gardens, Craigton Park and the Aquarium. Heading back to the East Neuk you can venture into the Secret Bunker or the Scottish Fisheries Museum. There are several castles open to the public during the summer season. Coastal routes round the East Neuk give spectacular views. East Fife is the ideal location for a holiday for couples of all ages, as well as families. There is an abundance of award winning and family friendly restaurants within the area.
