CASA DI FEDERICA - Overlooking the bay of Canneto in Lipari, this flat is part of a large mansion which has been divided into flats of various sizes all with terraces and sea view. Only five minutes’ walk from the beach, it’s been restored to its original splendour for holiday letting on a self-catering basis. Independent entrance, terrace with uninterrupted views of the crystal clear cobalt sea. Tastefully furnished for your comfort, complete with ceiling fans, TV, Wifi, a terrace with shaded areas and comfortable furnishings for 'al fresco' dining.

Ideal for those who love nature, the history and culture, appreciate Sicilian food and wine and are seeking relaxation and/or want to explore these Aeolian islands - using Lipari as a base - listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.

CASA CRAVERI in Via Salita Lami, Canneto.

It's a fortified house, with thick walls, typical of its ancient origins. It is laid out on a single floor which overlooks two pedestrian lanes. The back along the road that leads to Lami. About 85 square meters. Comprising 2 double bedrooms, one double and one with two single beds, 2 bathrooms with shower and one with a washing machine. A kitchen with fridge, gas cooker with electric oven, dishwasher, a very large and comfortable living room, with dining table. The living room leads to a courtyard with dining table and iron chairs, it is dominated by a large banana tree that gives an Arabic feel. From the living room there is a staircase that leads to a huge terrace with two wrought iron tables, partly covered by an awning with a wonderful view over the Canneto bay and the islands of Panarea and Stromboli. The terrace is adjacent to a small flower garden in the typical Aeolian style (jasmine, bougainvillea, russelie, etc ...), and in the center a large cedar. A gate on the road provides an independent access route to the terrace.

The house is furnished with care and great taste: paintings, ceramics and books give it a pleasant family atmosphere. Also available in winter.

Whichever accommodation you choose, these islands will leave you wanting for more.

Casa did Federica

  • 2 of 5

The pictures advertised were very misleading - the view didn't look like this - there were overgrown bushes in the way. The Italian neighbours above and next door shouted all the time along with incessant crying children. We were out in the day but the quiet peaceful evenings were ruined. The steep unmaintained steps up to the apartment with luggage was another matter altogether. The property was clean, the staff were friendly, the beaches were lovely and the sun shone. But we won't be going back. Too noisy!

Owner's Response: Dear Mrs Julia P. I'm very surprised. Your review's so different from all the others! Although any comment's taken seriously and useful in finding room for improvement, I'd like to point out that: 1. The photos on the page refer to more than one type of accommodation as clearly explained on my very first email to you dated 04/01/2014: "THE PROPERTY - it was a big old mannor house that has been restored and divided into 6 Flats, all with independent entrances and terraces ..." ""There is a choice of accommodation, depending on the size you require and on your budget, but based on the number of people, I can suggest the one we call Casa di Federica, see pictures attached. It offers a double bedroom, a spacious living room with a sofa bed, a very nice size kitchen and a shower room. Three exits to a large terrace with spectacular sea views and a Mediterranean garden with fruit trees and flowers. All the terraces are indepedent and are equipped for al-fresco eating. All flats have TV, ceiling fan, Wifi and a separate entrance." I sent you the photos of this flat and its views by email. So, I am sorry but I am puzzled about what you might consider misleading. Very accurate information was provided and in great detail from the first email and prior to your booking. 2. The garden wasn't at its best at the begining of the season (your stay: 21-28 JUNE) and once this was noticed the issue was addressed and people responsible for maintenance changed. The beautiful Meditarrean garden is an element of pride for this property and are guests are invited to pick fruit and herbs for their use during their stay. 3. About your "The Italian neighbours above and next door shouted all the time along with incessant crying children." I'm sorry but I find it difficult to believe that the shouting and crying went on incessantly "all the time". I also think people should realise that a choice has to be made between being close to the beach and amenities (within walking distance) but expecting to have a house isolated from all other houses so that there is complete and continuous silence. However, if it was so excessive as you claim, you could have contacted me or the staff you, yourself have defined "friendly" and we would have looked into this. 4. As for the steps, the picture on the page hows they are neither steep nor neglected. As for your luggage on the 2 occassions (arrival & departure) our friendly staff would have taken it for you, if asked. Thanks so much

Lipari "Casa del capitano"

  • 5 of 5

Siamo stati benissimo.

Appartamento davvero molto bello, pulito e spaziosissimo.

Lovely, calm and interresting stay

  • 5 of 5

we were really satisfied with all. property was nice, like in the pictures, clean and very calm. the service was very good. From the place we lived its easy to reach Lipari city, were is the port to the other islands. In Canneto you find all you need. bars, supermarket, bakery, restaurant etc. A beautifull beach is very closed to the apartment. Trekking is wonderfull and the ways are easy to find.

I want to go there again and i would recommend the property to friends.

Flat C

  • 4 of 5

Nice small 1 bedroom with kitchenette and private bath. All you need for light meals and sleep. Great location for beach, grocery, and restaurants. Beautiful view over Canneto. Within walking distance to anywhere on the island, if you are in decent shape. One surprise was the charges for towels and sheets. Upon arrival there were 2 towels and one set of sheets and that was it for the week. Cost 13 euros per person was pretty steep for no change in sheets or towels for the entire week. Maybe being from the states I didn't understand this and that is just the way it is, but you are also charged a cleaning fee of 30 euros. Just felt more like a hotel then an apartment.

Owner's Response: Hotels and B&Bs include all cleaning costs as well as the hire, washing and changing of bed linen and towels in the room rates. Our rental rates, which are very competitive and excellent value for money for the type of building, the premises, its location and excellent service offered, include only the rent of our fully furnished flats and all utilities. Business registered as holiday rentals of furnished flats do not and CANNOT, by law, include SOFT furnishings, food, drinks and so on, otherwise they fall under the hotel category. This is standard practice in Europe, at least, but I think also in USA. This is clearly stated by us in correspondence and in our vouchers which customers receive when making enquiries and bookings. Many guests prefer to bring their own personal towels and bed linen but we give the option so that only those who want this additional service pay for it. It is a service we choose to give as it is not expected because it falls under the soft furnishings category. We outsorce the towels and bed linen from a registered company which supplies Hotels to ensure quality and hygiene standards for the benefit of our customers. The final cleaning cost is quantified separately as it varies according to the size of the Flat rented. The property offers studio flats, two room and three room flats and it wouldn't be fair to charge the same cleaning costs regardless of size. This cost is stated separately for transparency in the breaking down of the rental charge and it is clearly stated in our correspondence and vouchers. So it seems a little strange it felt like a hotel to this guest who, incidentally, expressed enormous gratitude when checking out for the comfort and hospitality received. One thing is for sure, he would have paid twice as much for a single room in a B&B, but no extras. Furthermore, I'm not quite sure why it was a surprise to this guest as it was clearly stated in prior correspondence and voucher before arrival and he would have had an explanation had he conveyed his thoughts at the time. But I thank him for giving me the opportunity to do so now.

definitely recommendable

  • 4 of 5

The flats are located well above the sea allowing an excellent view over Canneto Bay, and are shielded from any noise. They were part of an older mansion, and thus have thick walls that keep the heat out; and are pleasantly designed and furnished, with an ample terrace, itself well covered, in case you want to spend the whole time outside - something definitely recommendable given the large space. Indeed, one can imagine to spend the hottest hours there, strolling down to the beach (5 minutes) in early morning or the evening for a dip into the water. The nearby village, Canneto (5 min) is quite plain, but has all the necessary shops, pubs, bars, etc. (including 3 supermarkets, bakeries and butchers) for self-catering and an evening out. As an advantage, the village hasn't yet completely evolved into a tourist village, and so everyday life on the Aeolian Islands is in your neighborhood. For those wanting to walk within Liparian architecture, Lipari town is very pretty, and close, about 10 minutes by bus which departs near the flats. If really necessary, one can even walk there, though this may not be recommendable in the hottest hours of the day. Alternatively, hiking is a possibility, especially onto the hill located between Canneto and Lipari - it is virtually deserted, and offers stunning views.

Management of the flats is excellent, with quick responses to any needs. There are a few people looking after the flats, so there is always someone available. Pick-up from Lipari harbor was arranged and reliable.

The flat was handed over clean, with all necessary amenities, and continuous hot water. Wifi works well also on the terrace.

Definitely recommendable.

Lipari is an island in the Aeolian archipelago, off the coast of Sicily, formed by 9 volcanoes with fantastic cliffs, beaches and bays. Listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage for its unique nature and spectacular views. Splendid and unspoilt, different at various times of the day, with colours that reflect the bright sky, the sea is the element that dominates the horizon in Lipari. It is the sea of a thousand legends and Homeric myths. Pablo Neruda, very familiar with the Aeolian sea, said “Amo el mar porque me enseña”. Its sunny, ventilated and mild climate from April to at least mid November allows for all sorts of activities such as trekking, diving, fishing, snorkelling and swimming in such clear water. Rich of archaeological sites dating back to the Bronze age and Greek and Roman periods, the most interesting monuments are the Spanish Castle of the XVI century, the Cathedral rebuilt in the XV-XVI centuries and the Archaeological Eolian Museum.

Other Activities: trekking, snorkelling
