Description

Lantern Cottage

The cottage sleeps 4 people. with a gorgeous double bedroom with floorboards that were old ships timbers and 2 single beds in the second bedroom. Ideal for a family. The lounge has a beamed ceiling and lovely cosy wood burner for colder evenings.

The whole cottage has recently been lovingly and tastefully refurbished.

I do allow dogs at the quieter periods of the year and the area is so good for dog walkers. They would need to be supervised at all times in the cottage and stay off the furniture and cleanliness is a top priority for the cottage.

Devoran village is quiet and peaceful, with a newly updated park just across the road. This gives you amazing views across the valley and out to sea. Walking to the characterful Quay Inn is 2 minutes away and the sea only a few minutes more. The village has so much history and listed buildings, it's a hidden gem.

About the property

E3178

Lantern and Fuchsia Cottage are beautiful, Victorian cottages. They are next door to each other, so great for 2 families or perfect for a family of 4 or a couple. They are characterful and tastefully updated. Home from home, with everything you'd need for a great holiday.

Ideal for walkers, cyclist, bird watchers and anyone who loves the Cornish beautiful countryside and it's stunning beaches.

Dogs are welcome in both the cottages and also at the local pub. Please check details first.

The beamed ceiling and traditional features all add to their Cornish charm. A light and airy feel, with a great kitchen and dining room for convenience and entertaining. It is well equipped with all you'll need including speedy wifi to keep in touch.

Both gardens have a sunny decking area, which is great to enjoy all meals outside if you prefer or a quiet glass of wine in the evening. There is a grassed area and eashing line too. The cottages have a wood burner for cooler evenings with a good supply of games. The park opposite which overlooks the sea, is ideal for all ages of children including new swings and slides, a climbing platform and a large grassed area for games. A favourite activity is fishing for crabs in the creek or jumping off the Quay at Point (just up the road) to cool off on a sunny evening. Why not bring a kayak and paddle to the famous 13th Century Pandora Inn for a drink, or just drive round.

The cottages are situated towards the end of a row of listed cottages built for Ships Captains and mine owners. The village of Devoran was once an incredibly wealthy mining village, shown by the quality of the stunning Victorian 1850's houses, now a tranquil setting ideal for a holiday in Cornwall. The cottages are right in the heart of the historic village near the old school, church and beautiful old pub at the end of the road. It is a very safe, peaceful Cornish village for children. Great for bird life along the creek. A real bird lovers paradise.

10 mins away is Loe beach where boats and kayaks can be hired for the day or lessons taken out on the water. The Bissoe valley is excellent for bike hire with it's 11 mile old railway track from Devoran to the other coast at Portreath or Porth Towan and the great Blue Bar right on the beach. Perranporth Beach is another great beach with a pub right on the beach.

With holiday relaxation in mind why not book in for a luxury massage. I am a fully qualified massage therapist with over 10 years of experience. I specialise in back and neck massages, Indian head massages, reflexology foot massage or the most luxurious aromatherapy full body massage, either half hourly, hourly or an hour and a half. Just mention it at the booking stage or when you arrive at the cottage. It will really complete your holiday and help you release any stresses and tensions in the most lovely setting. I work into muscles, releasing knots or just helping you drift off into deep relaxation.

I am very happy to give any recommendations on places to visit, tailored to your interests. There are just so many to choose from. I have many brochures for local walks. It really is a lovely place to visit, great for the children, or in fact all ages to explore and discover. Many people come back year after year because they didn't have time to fit it all in on the one visit.

Devoran is very centrally located in Cornwall and with so many places to visit you will be spoilt for choice. The Eden Project, St Ives, St Michael's Mount, Mevagissey, Crantock beach (our favourite), and Fowey just to name a few.

About Belinda Yates

My name is Belinda Yates and I've been living in Cornwall since I was a teenager and love it here.

I particularly enjoy walking the cliffs and making the most of the spectacular scenery and beaches. I would rate them as some as the best in the world.

I have one son, Daniel who is 19. He loves surfing on the rugged north coast beaches. Porthtowan is the closest. We like to sail as a family and enjoy outdoor adventure.

We live on the South coast in a fantastic village just beside the sea.

I am so pleased to open my cottage to others who can enjoy it's great position and surroundings I have many leaflets on local walks and places of interest. Welcome to Lantern cottage. Home from home.

Belinda Yates purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Belinda Yates chose Devoran

When I bought the house I was looking for a good community to bring my son up in. Devoran certainly has that with it's own village school.

Devoran is a very historic village and grew up in 1800's around the mining industry. Large ships collected tin and copper and the village now shows how prosperous it was with it's many listed houses. My house is at one end of the main old street, with a great, traditional old pub at the other end. The whole village is a conservation area.

Cornwall has so much variety to offer people, so many beautiful tucked away little fishing villages and amazing walks. There are National Trust houses, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project. with Trellissick Gardens just round the corner and so many more.

Lantern cottage is situated between Truro and Falmou

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage was built in the mid 19th Century, so a lovely old traditional cottage but fully modernised. It is light and airy with a decking area outside to enjoy a glass of wine.

There is plenty of parking outside, so easy to unload and leave your vehicle infront of the house. Across the road is a park.

It takes about 2 minutes to walk down to the beautiful tidal quay where the working ships would have loaded up. You could always stop off at the pub for a bite to eat or to sip your favourite tipple. Continue on along by the sea to Point Quay, getting a ferry across to the 13th century Pandora Inn. The estuary is a haven for birdwatchers.

The Bissoe Trail finishes at Devoran which can be cycled or walked from one coast to the other.

Killiow golf course is 5 minutes away in Playing Plac

A lovely terraced cottage in a beautiful and quiet village, great location for exploring Cornwall.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lantern Cottage. The accommodation was well equipped and a great base and for our family, our 5 year old loved the cabin bed and our 3 year old slept well in the single. Our kids loved the play area across the road and a short walk took us to the local pub and Devoran quayside which is a lovely quiet spot to sit and relax.

2 Wochen im schönen Lantern Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lantern cottage is an ideal holiday home.

  • 5 of 5

Lantern cottage is a lovely house in the beautiful village of Devoran situated close to a pretty tidal estuary. I particularly liked the kitchen and bathroom which looked recently refurbished. The local pub is very nice, serves excellent food and has a good range of real ales. The village of Devoran is a good base for travelling around Cornwall. We loved the small coastal villages Porthleven and Mousehole and of course the Eden Project. One week wasn't long enough and we were reluctant to leave the area and the house which was very cosy and comfortable. We have promised ourselves that we will return even though it's a long drive from the North East. Belinda gave us a lovely warm welcome ensuring we had everything we needed. I would recommend this property and the beautiful village to anyone.
