About the property

Cottage in Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight - Set in the conservation area of Carisbrooke Castle 2 Mins Walk To Village Pubs

Set in a superbly quiet position in the peaceful village near Newport with views up to Carisbrooke Castle. At the rear of the cottage there is a brook where you can watch the kingfisher catching his breakfast. There is a small level patio running along the width of the cottage along side the brook, overlooking the old mill. The brook is fenced off and gated therefore safe for young children. The front garden is laid to lawn & flower beds where there is a patio with a table & chairs. There is parking for 2 cars at the front of the cottage, with additional parking a short distance further up the lane. There are numerous bridleways & footpaths through to the countryside, directly from the cottage & of course Carisbrooke Castle is only a short walk away. In the summer months special activities are arranged for children. There is a village shop (Co-op), Italian restaurant, 2 pubs and a Turkish Messe restaurant. They are a short walk over the Forde There is also a Post office where you can buy your newspaper. Outside the Co-op is the bus stop with a bus service into the Principle town of Newport for all the main shops. IOW is a network of small country lanes & nowhere is very far, including the beaches - it just takes a little longer!

We have compiled an information pack, giving ideas of where to go and eat.

Notes on accommodation: We regret that we are not able to accept pets. This is not because we dislike pets, but some of our guests may have allergies. Apologies. Outside: The cottage is situated in a quiet lane and sometimes you can hear the donkeys baying from the castle. The brook that runs along the back of the cottage has shallow waters that run crystal clear - so clean that it attracts kingfishers and watercress grows naturally. It has a wonderful peppery flavour - makes delicious soup! The front garden is small and enclosed. The lawn area is elevated and accessed by 2 stone steps. There is a large patio area outside the kitchen door with a patio table and chairs to seat 8. If you are a bird lover, the garden attracts many birds and we have a pheasant who frequents our bird table regularly. We leave bird seed for those who would like to refill the bird feeders. Utility Room: A doorway from the kitchen leads into the utility room where there is a fridge freezer, washing machine & tumble dryer. There is hanging space for indoor drying + an outside rotary line. We keep our deckchairs here for your use. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The price includes bed linen and towels, dish and table clothes and includes the final clean. Also included are loo rolls, kitchen paper towels, sugar, salt & pepper, washing powder and dishwasher tabs. Other: From the front door, you enter into a spacious double aspect dining room overlooking the brook with beamed ceiling. One of two staircases lead up to the bedrooms. A large table, comfortably seats 7. There is the use of a high chair & a toddler chair

Everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

Had a great week in this cottage which is in a quiet location at the edge of the village, it is only a 3 minute walk to the pub (nice food), bus stop and mini market. The cottage had everything we needed and we would return without doubt.

Quaint cottage, great location, comfortable stay.

  • 4 of 5

Stayed at Cresswell cottage with my sons (3 & 5) and my parents. Cottage was nicer and more spacious than I was expecting from the photos. It is an old cottage so some of the floors slope a bit and the doorways and ceilings are low in places but that's the price you pay for a proper country cottage. Inside it was well equipped and although we had a small problem on our first day it was quickly rectified and the rest of our stay went smoothly.

Wonderful! Absolute first class accommodation and service.

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful holiday at Carisbrooke.

The house Is terrific for all groups / families. We were three generations, grandparents, parents and young children and we had a great time. The house us so well equipped, it has everything you could need and the location is great.

We visited all the beaches and numerous attractions.

The children loved the garden, the two staircases, the adjoining stream to race paper and toy boats in. They loved everything and didn't want to leave!

The bedrooms were very well equipped and situated with adjoining or near by bathrooms.

We would love to return and would highly recommend to all.

Beautiful charming cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cresswell cottage is a beautiful & quirky. It had everything we needed especially in the kitchen which not all holiday cottages do. Quirky layout with the two staircases but our 2 children found it fascinating & great for hide and seek! Excellent location on the island being in the middle so ideal for exploring all over. The cottage is just a small walk away from Carrisbrooke Castle which was a lovely day out.

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

I have to say that the website doesn't do Cresswell justice. It's a beautiful period cottage in an idyllic location with a brook running behind it. It's very comfortable and well equipped. The owners and Alison (the lady who looks after the cottage) are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely week and would highly recommend the property.

Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

We have compiled an information file which gives some of the activities on the Island. We are unable to cover them all. There are many activities during the school holidays & many things to do with the children. One of our favorite places for the grandchildren is Robin Hill Adventure Park & Gardens, only a few minutes in the car from us. When you pay you are given a 7 day pass that gives you access without further charge. It is a fabulous place for taking a picnic, but there is also a cafe. A Falconry with 2/3 shows every day & many more activities for younger children. We consider this is very good value for money.

The Donkey santuary, Blackgang Chine, Alum Bay with the multi coloured sands & the cable car down to the beach are just a few to mention.

Beaches- A tip for spending time on the many beaches & rock pools, is to pick up a Tide chart. The Isle of Wight is the only place in the world that has a double tide. These tide charts can be picked up at newsagent or online.

You are never very far from the seaside & a sandy beach. Carisbrooke is well located for touring around the island. A bus from the village, will take you into the principle town of Newport with all the major shops & access to the 'round the island' buses.

Sandown & Shanklin are well known for beaches & beach shops whereas

Freshwater is a quieter area for beaches and the low tide reveals numerous rock pools.

Don't forget to pick up a tide chart for the best times to visit the beaches. Available also on internet

The cottage is about 20 mins drive from both Red Funnel (Southampton/Cowes) and Wightlink (Portsmouth/Fishbourne) ferry terminals. The Lymington/Yarmouth Wightlink ferry terminal is about 25 minutes drive.

Further Details:

As Newport is the Principle town, it is home to the larger shops like M & S, BHS, Sainsburys, Boots etc., In the event of an emergency which we hope is not the case for our guests, Newport is also home to our Hospital - St Marys.

OUr information pack give details of Pubs and Restaurants that we have used, but there are MANY we have not tried!
