Private Rural Location nearby Beaches, Cottages & Castles , Farm & Country Parks, famed Ayrshire Golf Courses
I'll let our guests describe us as they are our best references. "Your hospitality put everyone at ease and for all of us this helped make it a great and memorable week." And it was lovely to read a special message from children who stayed at the House who were given free rein in the herb/veg garden! "Thank you for the strawberries they were absolutely delicious." "A great place to be at peace and feel relaxed. We’ve had a very happy time and appreciate the warm welcome we’ve had. Hope to be back soon." "Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us." "Karen & Scott thank you so much for your kindness." "Thanks for a lovely stay." "Many thanks Karen for making our visit so enjoyable." "Thank you for welcoming us so kindly. What great memories we will have."
Why Karen chose Craigie
We just fell in love with this house! House of Craigie is the most wonderful, historic house and pocket sized country estate. A wonderful place to relax and watch the sunset behind the mountains of the islands of Arran, Jura and Ailsa Craig. All in all it's a perfect holiday venue with a wonderfully relaxed and peaceful ambience.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Breathtaking views to the sea, Ailsa Craig and Arran. Rural yet we're close to all the facilities and amenities in Ayrshire when we can tear ourselves away - particularly for a walk on the beach at Troon. Staying here between the coast and Glasgow is ideal. Retail therapy in the city and a night at the theatre or a concert there is perfectly do-able via the A77/M77, the journey takes around 30 minutes. The other thing we really do appreciate about the location, (one of us is from further north where midges are a plague) is that here the ubiquitous, Highland midge is a very rare visitor so we are able to enjoy the sunsets sitting out in the garden unbuzzed - which makes House of Craigie truly an ideal Scottish country hideaway!

Beautiful countryside house
We recently stayed here as part of a weekend get together with old friends. Karen greeted us upon arrival and already had the heating running so the house was warm for our guests arriving later that evening. The house is perfect for entertaining, the kitchen and living spaces are perfect for large get togethers, but there are plenty of other rooms should guests wish to breakout into quieter spaces.
The pool and games room were a huge hit with our group of friends and an extra bonus in terms of the property, as this was one of our requirements when booking.
The house was spotless, fresh towels and linen were left out and all basic amenities were stocked upon arrival. On day of checkout Karen came to ask us how our stay was which I thought was a nice touch.
Would highly recommend, both for beautiful house and surroundings and for friendly hosts. Looking forward to returning in the not so distant future!
It was lovely to welcome you all to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday at House of Craigie. I was happy that we were able to give a later check out time on Sunday morning to allow for a more leisurely breakfast before you all headed off in separate directions. I'm glad to know that you enjoyed the house and I gather some also enjoyed a quiet walk round our country lanes. Truly it would be a pleasure to welcome you back in future. Thank you to you all for looking after the house!
It was perfect!
We were here for a family get together and the home and gardens are beautiful! Karen and Scott were so helpful and made us all feel like we were home!
Thank you Susan.
"Perfect" is what we aim for!
It was lovely to greet you all from overseas and wonderful for us to hear that you all felt instantly at home at House of Craigie.
Warm sunny days certainly helped whether you were all lazing in the gardens or taking day trips to Arran and the fantastic attractions of Ayrshire.
We would love to meet you and your family next time you are planning a visit "home" to Scotland.
Our very best wishes to you all.
A perfect Scottish escape for a large group
We arrived at our Scottish house on Friday afternoon, Karen the owner greeted us with a smile and was happy to answer any questions. She had already recommended a chef (Philippe Wine & Dine - would highly recommend) for our Saturday night dinner which we had booked. The main house sleeps 16 people comfortably plus cottages which accommodate more. Downstairs provides a first living room with an open fire which is perfect for a reception in the evening. Past the front door is the kitchen with aga and off the kitchen is a dining room able to seat 20 people but very comfortable for our 14 guests. Beyond this area is a larger living room with another open fire this is perfect for a games night or wine and cheese evening. Opening the door off this living room leads you to a games room with ping pong ball table. The final section is the fabulous pool with a beautifully warm floor. Upstairs has two levels of rooms, nice and warm with comfy beds. It's a perfect escape for any celebration and the owners are warm and friendly. This was our second time staying at the house and we will definitely be back!
It was so lovely to welcome you all back to the House and thank you for your very kind comments.
We look forward to seeing you next time!
Best wishes to you all
Having booked House of Craigie last September for a 60th birthday celebration that took place last weekend, I was quite honestly horrified to read a review on this website regarding the aggressive attitude of the owners. What a load of nonsense that turned out to be!
The owners of House of Craigie, Karen and Scott, could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The house is stunning, beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. The glorious views and sunny skies simply enhanced our enjoyment of the property.
We have a bagpiper booked during the weekend, also a magician and, most wonderful of all, a fabulous chef, Philippe - recommended by Karen. I was in touch in Karen several times in the run up to our weekend and she was always so helpful and patient.
Karen and Scott's son, James, was so lovely taking group photos for us and Karen even had 3 of them framed for us to take home.
They are a warm and genuine family that own and run House of Craigie, you will not be disappointed if you chose to stay here.
Thank you! It is so nice to hear that you had a great time at the House and that all our efforts are appreciated.
What a delight it was to meet you and Kevin along with your family, grandchildren and friends.
You created such a happy buzz round House of Craigie and a real sense of occasion. We really enjoyed adding our local knowledge and contacts to help with your birthday arrangements - especially talking with Kevin beforehand to arrange the secret surprises for your arrival! I think the bagpiper will have thawed out by now, it was a cold wind when he was piping outdoors.
It would be a real pleasure to welcome you back in future, we hope it won't be too long!
Our very best wishes to you all
Wonderful for a family weekend
Rarely do our family all have time for a break together so our time at Craigie was special and made memorable by the beautiful house, wonderful views and Karen and Scott the welcoming owners who made sure we didn't miss any local highlights, Culzean Castle and its grounds are special indeed! Young and old enjoyed the spacious sitting rooms in the house, the "oldies" relaxed in the plush drawing room while the rest watched TV or played table tennis in the games room. The girls so enjoyed having "spa" time in the lovely indoor pool. The property was spotlessly clean with beautiful furnishings. It was a real privilege to enjoy this comfortable family home. Highly recommended - hopefully we will have a return holiday in the near future.
Thank you so much.
Great to hear that your weekend was a success for all the family.
We recommend a trip to Culzean to all our guests as it is a fit with all age groups whatever the season and of course a day trip to Arran is one for next time!
It would be lovely to see you all again at Craigie some time in future.
Our very best wishes
Agressive owners ruined our stay, ch
Our stay was made quite uncomfortable after being on the receiving end of the male owners aggression on the second day of our visit. The couple who own the property live in one of the cottages next door and keep a very close eye on your visit and will make it very clear if they are not happy with noise levels etc. Even locking a door providing quick access to the cottages because the noise was disturbing the owners office work. He was also very angry at the noise of the children in the courtyard and made it clear how annoyed he was having to lock his tool sheds because of them, which I would assume should be secure anyway. Alarm bells should have round when on arriving we were told of the bad behaviour of other guests including the children of a QC visiting recently and the reps from Rolex.
It is upsetting for us to receive such a nasty review, especially where we believe it is totally unwarranted, as we always strive very hard to ensure that all of our guests are comfortable, happy and safe during their holiday.
We provide as much information as we can prior to arrival to ensure all safety notices and house rules are known about well in advance of a holiday so that guests can arrive and simply get on with enjoying their holiday rather than having to "learn" all about the house as they arrive. We do, however, appreciate that there may be times when not all members of a group are informed. It is the responsibility of the lead person of a group to make sure that all fellow guests are "kept in the loop". This is always most important where groups stay with us where there is a very high proportion of children below secondary school age.
House rules are not onerous and are based on how we believe the majority of our guests treat their own home and that they be as respectful of our house and grounds as they would at home and help us to keep the house well looked after for following guests whilst also respecting our private space.
We rely on responsible parents to point out to children our small private owners' area around our cottage, including our tool shed where we store all property maintenance equipment.
Any prospective guest is welcome to request a copy of the "house rules" and they are always provided to guests before payment of a booking so that guests have a choice whether to book or not if there may be anything in the "rules" with which they do not agree.
Many guests do not use the Owners Direct system to book their stay with us and post their comments direct to our own website. Some include family pictures taken at the house along with their comments. These can be read using the link to our site included in our Owner's Direct listing. So please have a look at our Visitor's Book - especially comments and photos provided by other guests who have stayed this summer and who it was a real pleasure to meet.
We look forward to providing a very positive holiday experience to the lovely people we continue to meet year after year of welcoming guests to our fantastic country house.
