Why Christianne Douglas chose Fosciandora
Italy has the friendliest of welcomes where a halting “Grazie” with an English accent elicits praise. Not only are the Italians super hospitable they also know how to live well, and share their knowledge enthusiastically you will find a wealth of fabulous and well-priced wines, excellent cuisine laced with delicious freshly picked organic tomato sauces, homemade pasta and freshly baked bread. Succulent treats like truffles and Funghi Porcini are easily found; Italians are gourmands without the fuss. There is so much to do! from Etruscan, Roman and Medieval treasure hunting, to Olive Oil & Wine tasting, from Italian cooking lessons to eating the best ice cream in the world. You can walk for miles in the National Park or laze by the pool reading your favourite book. Italy IS la Dolce Vita

Holiday of a lifetime!
La Collina del Sole was the perfect holiday home. It's hard to believe but the house, pool and grounds are even more beautiful than the photographs suggest.
Everything one could want or need was provided, and the thoughfulness of providing a meal ready to cook on arrival sums up how the owners go the extra mile to make you feel welcome.
If you are able to drag yourself away from the pool or verandas and their astonishing views, the surrounding countryside is magnificent, with beautiful towns and villages at every turn of the road. We took day trips to the caves at Grotta del Vento, which was great, and visited the fortress at Verrucole with it's superb views. And everywhere you choose to eat, the food is amazing!
But mostly we all enjoyed relaxing by the pool too much to stray too far each day!
Overall, a beautiful place to stay, an amazing area to visit and perfect hosts.
Dear Matt; Thank you so much for your thoughtfull and glowing review, It was a real pleasure to look after you.
We are so glad you managed to visit La Grota del Vento and the Fortress of the Verrucule, each year we add and renew our villa handbook so there will always be new and exciting places and restaurants to see and experience. We do hope we will see you again soon as the team looks forward to welcoming you back. A presto !
Fabulous location, peace and very helpful local staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We did have a hiccup on arrival since the arrival instructions didn't mention a key safe or the code for it! A very helpful neighbour managed to get in touch with the cleaner/ custodian , who showed up in 30 minutes.
The weather was cool and wet at the beginning of the week so we enjoyed visiting the local towns of Castelnuovo and Lucca. On Wednesday the weather was perfect and so we thoroughly enjoyed the fabulous infinity pool and the Pizza experience in the evening. We took advantage of a cookery lesson on Thursday and the served 4 course dinner on Friday. All were excellent.
The owner's daughter was staying at their neighbouring property during the week of our stay and was so very kind in accompanying us on a walk in the mountains to see part of the Gothic Line , a disused marble quarry and Isola Santa, where we swam in the lake. There were lots of marked trails locally between neighbouring villages. These are excellent, but you need good footwear.
There were lots of mosquitoes around during our stay and we were glad that the villa provided mosquito nets. We took repellent spray and coils, but were still bitten.
We would love to visit again since there was so much to see and do and the property was so lovely.
Dear Frances, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at La Collina del Sole. Thank you for explaining that you were not aware of the Lockbox entry arrangements. We will make these more prominent and confirm with guests that they have understood the arrival instructions.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
Beautiful & well appointed home
We enjoyed a fabulous vacation at the Lucca villa in Fosciandora. The house had everything that our two families with 5 kids needed --games, well appointed kitchen, plenty of space & overall just great ammenities. The pool was just amazing! We took advantage of the dinner prepared by Gessica & her mother (it was delicous) as well as massages (they were lovely). The owners assistance with instructions/directions and suggestion book was useful to study upon arrival and assisted us with our planning.
If anything, we underestimated the remoteness of this home...which does allow for a quiet vacation admist a gorgeous landscape, but does require some up front planning, coordination (we didn't want to leave once we were settled for the day), and a bit more time in the car than we anticipated. Day trips tended to take most of the day and the town of Lucca is roughly an hour drive. We very much enjoyed the dining opportunities in Lucca & the bustling town.
The property and surroundings are pure Tuscany! Mountainous Tuscany!
While a bit of an adventure to get to it is absolutely worth it! Gessica, her daughter and mother prepared three fantastic meals after long days touring that were 4-5 star! Everything fresh from their garden and wonderful people! Best views!
Dear Peter, so pleased that you and your family enjoyed La Collina del Sole. As you say, it is Tuscany at its best. So glad you enjoyed the beautiful garden and THE VIEW, which is spectacular and inspiring at any time of year.
We are also pleased to have assisted in the various transport requirements and hope that your trips to vineyards, Florence, Lucca, Barga and Castelnuovo were everything you hoped for and more
We empathise with your wish to take Gessica back home with you. You are not alone, we are so very blessed in having her and her family help us out as freinds. I always put on a few extra kilos whenever we are beign feasted by them it is hard not to eat all that beautiful freshness and taste. Look forward to seeing you again soon !
Stunning property in a stunning location
La Collina Del Sole is a stunning house in a stunning location. The house is beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The local team who prepare and maintain the property could not be more helpful, with lovely touches such as homemade lasagna and cake on arrival and biscuits in each bedroom. The infinity pool is spectacular, with a view that you could never tire of. We swam in it every day. Andrew and Chrissie provide a wealth of information to help with your stay. The pizza experience is a must. We have a wonderful week at La Collina and would not hesitate to return.
Thank you for such a beautiful review I can honestly say it was a PLEASURE to have you as guests, the team loved looking after you, So glad the pool came into its own and that all the small touches within the villa were appreciated.
I hear you went to Siena and Volterra hope it was not too hot! WE SO LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU BACK, Thank YOU for looking after the villa so beautifullly. And thank you for posting all those fab images on Google ! they are stunning.
Face to face with perfection
We had a week with our 3 boys and girlfriends, a total of 8 staying. The location of the villa, a former farmhouse, is perfect as it is high enough on the Serchio river steep valley that you get a late sunset and outstanding views of sorroundings, it is also secluded from nearby villages so that it is extremely quiet; so quiet that the noise of the road at the bottom of the valley is barely audible.
The house fittings are comprehensive so you have all necessary equipments in the kitchen to cook whatever you fancy. Rooms aren't enormous but are very comfortable and beds even more so.
We were there at the end of a heatwave as such we didn't us much the inside of the house but just made the most of its outside. The swimming pool is superb: really wide and deep, outstanding views and (as it has salt in it) no nasty chlorine smell; in our stay the weather was hot some spent most of the time at the pool area and it was impeccable. At sunset the swifts dived on in it ti skim the water surface for an and of the day drink, very relaxing to watch and if you want to see more of it sit on the stone bench few feet away from the pool. I think that this was the highlight of a very restful holiday.
We had all our meals at the dining area under the pergola where it was cool and had great views; the barbecue works a beauty and we had some really good grilled local grilled meat and sausages.
Jessica the lady in charge of the house is very nice and efficient and her pizza making experience was fun and very tasty.
We also walked to some villages nearby and the walks are great fun as it is rather wild if compared to British country walks but the paths are well marked. I recommend the walk to Riana and to Lupinaia. We couldn't resist the curiosity to visit the village on the hilltop opposite us, Palleroso: definitely worth the drive as it looks like a stage set.
A visit to Castelnuovo is definitely worth given its medieval features, confluence of two rivers and some interesting food shops. We found easier and more convenient do food shopping at Conad supermarket in Pieve Fosciana, very well stocked and priced reasonably.
We also drove to Braga which is an other charming medieval hilltop town and the visit there was extremely interesting as it is like a stage set and the duomo atop the hill has extremely interesting 12th century sculptures.
The house guide book is a masterpiece. If we tame our desire for new places we will be back. Highly recommended!!!
Dear Giulio and Codacci Pisanelli Clan: Thank you for such a helpful and comprehensive review, we certainly enjoyied having you to stay and hope that someday after seeign all you wish to see, you return to watch the swifts having their evening drink at the infinity salt water pool. They are still doing it now, once it gets cooler they will migrate to Northern Africa, but seem content to stay here for now. We are so glad you enjoyed the ooutisde pizza oven and the barbeque, deffinitely the best way to cook in warm weather enjoying the cool breeze under the pergola terrace. The Barga Jazz festival is on as I write and in a few weeks the swifts will have emigrated and the villa will come into its own with its fireplaces and large living areas, with long chestnut covered hillside walks hunting for funghi procini and black truffles and enjoying the latest organic wine vintage... the best ! and later on still with excellent skiiing just under an hours drive away. A very different aspect to the fabulous experience you had at La Collina del Sole.
I have recently found some fabulous new experiences for the villa handbook including a visit to the vineyard whcih won best organic wine of Italy 2015, they are very close as we overlook their vinyards.... there will be plenty of new aspects to enjoy at La Collina del Sole. We look forward to keeping in touch A PRESTO !
