Arrived in Kalkan at midnight. Directions to the villa were spot on. In the morning, opened the blinds to an amazing view. Villa Asmin is modern, well equipped, and scrupulously clean, we didn't want for more. The pool and gardens were regularly attended. The pool loungers and table and chairs were very a modern, rattan style. We walked down to the village at night, and got a taxi back up. We went on several trips - the Saklikent Gorge where we went tubing down the river - great fun but scary! Also Patara Beach is stunning with its ruins, and famous sunset. The beach clubs are great - we went to the Indigo Beach Club by the Marina for jet skis. We have fallen in love with Kalkan and will definitely return. Fabulous villa - fabulous holiday.
This villa is wonderful, absolutely beautiful inside with views of Kalkan bay from every window. Just stunning. It is well equipped and the local man who looks after it is smashing. Kalkan is a lovely place with great beach clubs and very friendly people. Highly recommended.
Kalkan has a small pebble beach with sunloungers and umbrellas and is about a 15/20 minute walk. There is also a regular shuttle bus that can take you to the harbour front. There is also Patara Beach (17kms of sandy beach) which is about 15 mins away by local bus (the bus station is within a few minutes walk away). Patara has lots of ruins, therefore there is a 5 lira (£2) entrance fee to the area. Kaputas Beach is a free small sandy beach, 15 mins away by bus, but has lots of steps down to it.
Nearest airport is Dalaman and is about 1.5 hours transfer time. Car hire is not necessarily required as the local transport is very cheap and goes to most places. Airport transfers can be arranged. 2011 prices are £60 each way (1-3 people)
Kalkan is approx 15 mins walk away. Weekly Thursday market is about 10 mins away. Bus station 5 mins away. Xanthos, Saklikent Gorge, and other places of interest are easily reached by car or through an organised tour.
Most of the restaurants (of which there are a lot) are in the centre. There are plenty of banks with ATM machines. All the supermarkets will deliver groceries, and some of the smaller restaurants/cafes have a take-away service. Akbel which is a very Turkish little village is about a 15 min walk in the opposite direction of Kalkan and is very traditional and has a Sunday market. There is also a local bus every 20 mins to it that passes close to the villa. The nearest small 'corner shop' is about 5 mins walk.
