About Fernando Jose Cruz
My wife and I bought our finca 24 years ago but did not come to stay permanently until 1999. I am a retired electrical engineer, aged 80, and have worked all my life with British engineering consultants on very exciting multinational projects, mostly overseas. These included steelworks in Algeria, Venezuela and Malaysia, military bases in Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, etc. I speak fluent Spanish, as I was born in Bolivia, fluent English (American university and living over 30 years in Epsom, Surrey), and almost fluent French, which has added to the enjoyment of working overseas. I believe that as an engineer working on a huge variety of environments, has taught me to deal with everyday problems with confidence and good humour - both of which are of great value in the Spanish countryside
Fernando Jose Cruz purchased this Chalet in 1980
Why Fernando Jose Cruz chose Gaucín
Both my wife and myself have been very keen tennis players and much as we love England, we both got fed up with the weather! Having done a lot of camping with our children in France and northern Spain, we were advised that if we wanted guaranteed sunshine the Costa del Sol was the area to move to. A friend recommended Gaucin and, as has often happened to some residents here, once you come to the village and admire the scenery, there can be no other place that offers such beautiful countryside, amazing vistas, wonderful climate, a lovely and unspoilt little village with large town conveniences i.e. petrol station, variety of shops and restaurants, two banks, pharmacy, etc. We looked at town houses but we wanted a place with a garden. We finally bought a finca with a 15 acre garden!
What makes this Chalet unique
Although we´re only 3 kms from Gaucin itself, we are also about 200 metres lower and much more protected from wind and cold weather than the village. We grow avocados, oranges, lemons, tangerines, guavas, nectarines, and have planted mango trees and chirimoyas (custard apples), which you couldn't grow in Gaucin as they would suffer from frost. We are, naturally, much quieter here and much as one loves to attend the various fiestas which the village celebrates, almost every other week one feels, the noise is quite incredible and would make sleep quite difficult to come by, so we have the convenience of the village nearby but we live in the country. Last but not least, we are surrounded by a marvellous bunch of friends, who share our love of music and the arts.

Great location for these apartment. Just off the center off the village. Everything was an easy walk. Lots of nice day trips close by. Our apartment which was the Done Jose had rather dangerous stairs for anyone who has walking or mobility issues. No bannister on one side and a beam to limbo under near the bottom. No problem for us but worth mentioning, but nice character property all the same,
A real find
We had a really great stay in "La Chozita'. A brilliant place to wind down and enjoy peace and fantastic scenery, whilst also being close to amenities in Gaucin. You would be hard pushed to find a holiday let with a better view (which you feel like you have all to yourself here). Fernando as a host was second to none - it is really fantastic to have a warm welcome from someone who knows the area intimately, whilst also leaving you to enjoy the tranquility of the finca. He provided a very generous 'welcome pack', a meal, and kindly lent us baby equipment which made our lives easy. The use of the pool really made the holiday for us, it is like something from a magazine. We will always remember our break here.
Hello Jenny, Oli and baby Will,
Many thanks for your very kind review of your stay at La Chozita and your comments regarding the view, the pool and our welcoming attitude. I can assure that the pleasure for myself and our friends who joined us for supper was mutual, you are a lovely little family and it was very pleasant to have you here. Maybe will meet again sometime in the future?
The Most Beautiful View
My husband and I stayed at "La Chozita" for one week in the spring. The property is fantastic, the views down the mountain to Gibraltar and Morocco are stunning. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful and relaxing I would definitely recommend, this is perfect. The historic town of Ronda and other attractions are easily accessible by car if you are interested in exploring the area. The owner was very hospitable and friendly.
Dear Hugh and Elaine,
Many thanks for your kind review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay so much, we certainly enjoyed meeting you. I'm also delighted that you must have liked La Chozita so much that you're coming back later this month, and we really look forward to seeing you again. The weather is still lovely and warm and you should enjoy your swimming at the pool. I remember that you were so busy touring the last time, that you didn't have time to enjoy the pool.
Stunning location in area with gorgeous scenery.
Chalet spacious,private and well equipped.
Owner very hospitable, helpful and good company.
Only downside is very steep final approach to chalet on foot or by car, but that's down to the terrain.
