Farmhouse in the lovely south Vendee, France - The Farmhouse Is Set In Its Own Grounds With Pretty Gardens And A Private Heated Swimming Pool
- English, French, German, Spanish
We moved to France in 2008 after many many great holidays here. Rose farmhouse was our holiday home for many years and we loved the property and surroundings . We had the property renovated to a high standard .After a stressful time running our mobile phone company in the uk ,we looked forward to "getting away" from it all and coming to Rose Farmhouse. We started spending more and more time in France and we decided to sell up in the uk and come to France for 6 months in 2008 for some "think time " . We never returned to the uk !! Our family followed, son, daughter and grand children all live here now.We now live 25 mins away from Rose farmhouse in a new property we are enjoying renovating.
Mike purchased this House in 1999
Why Mike chose Le Poiré-sur-Velluire
the property has so much french charm with its exposed beamed ceilings, stone walls and tranquil setting . Rose Farmhouse in set down a very, very quiet country lane opposite a lovely chateaux . (unoccupied) The village is yet a few minutes walk away. The not overlooked garden and private heated pool benefits from sunshine all day. Rose farmhouse is only 10 mins from the local town and 25 mins from the charming lovely town of La Rochelle.

This was a perfect retreat for us, the property was great and locat d in a rural setting not far from La Rochelle, Mike our host was extremely accommodating and offered us even the use of a table tennis table not listed on the booking which was great for the three kids. The pool was fantastic and because it was heated we could all use it at anytime during the day. The local village was lovely and the restaurant in the village was fantastic. The communication with Mike was great always on hand if we needed anything. I’d thoroughly recommend this for a relaxing stay away and the surrounding small villages are beautiful to visit.
Thanks Mike and Bev for having us.
Thankyou so much for your review. So pleased you all had a great time. It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely family. Regards Mike and Bev
Charming place to stay
A wonderful experience from start to finish. After requesting to book, Mike was hands on with all comms throughout the whole process and met us at the property on day 1….and waved us off at the end. He is clearly one of those owners who wants you to have an enjoyable stay, so is always available if you need him, but leaves you to enjoy your holiday.
The farmhouse is a wonderful 300 year old building, very much like in the photos and the various shady parts were a godsend for the time that we were there – with perfect sunshine and temps between 30°- 43°. Heated pool was a good size and clean.
The property is located on a quiet narrow lane, which made parking in the allocated space interesting, although I had mastered it by the end of our stay! You are about 5 mins walk into the centre of the village and whilst the local shop is further away, there is an automated baguette machine in the centre for fresh bread.
The location is quiet and rural, so the charming farmhouse with pool was a fantastic base and it doesn’t take long to get onto the roads and away to visit places in the Vendee.
Thanks Mike and Bev for letting us stay.
Fabulous French retreat
Perfect property for a family vacation in rural France. Large property in excellent condition with enclosed garden and heated swimming pool. Mike and Bev (owners) are readily available to help. Only a 10 minute walk to superb restaurant on river bank and 30 minute drive to La Rochelle and Ile de Rae. Have already recommended property to other family members for next year.
Thank you so much for your review. So happy you had a good time. Thanks for recommending the property to your family members. Much appreciated. Regards Mike and Bev
A picture post card farm house in a rural setting
The property was as pretty in real life as it was in the pictures.
The house has all the benefits of modern living but still keeps the character of a rural farm house.
The pool was a God send as the climate was hot even for the sun worshipper of our families.
Set adjacent to an old Chateaux in a sleepy village in rural France this place was a fantastic find.
Mike our host met us on arrival and was there to wave us goodbye, he was attentive to our needs and was on the end of a text when we had any questions. He made us feel at home but also left us to it, whilst been on hand if we needed his advice.
A example was, there had been a blip in the supply of the Wifi, Mike was onto it immediately ad the service was up and running in no time. Good work, the kids were especially relieved.
We loved the farm house and hope to return in a year or two.
well done Mike, hope we see you soon. Andrew Helen and the families
Many thanks Andrew Helen and the families for a such a fantastic 5 star review. We are always so so happy to hear when our guests enjoy their holiday so much.

2nd visit just as great
We loved this house so much last year we came back again
Has lost none of its charm. It's just so comfortable
The pool is great and the added benefit of lights at night enhanced our enjoyment
The night sky is lovely and I saw the owl a few times
We went to Niort which was lovely and my favourite La Rochelle
Early morning dog walks on Mervent forest, if you're bringing dogs take care, the vet in Fontenay advised us that the ticks in France are not affected by Frontline
Anyway, back to the house
If you thinking about it , then book asap!
It has all you need for a relaxing holiday
And Mike is a great bloke with a really helpful attitude
He wants to do all he can to make your holiday fantastic
Hopefully circumstances will allow us to return fir a third time next year
In the meantime we will sit in rainsoaked UK envious of those enjoying Rose Farmhouse
Thanks again Mike

Lovely property. Lovely location.
After a long day travelling we were met with a lovely bottle of wine to start off our holiday. The gite was spotless and very cosy. Mike the owner was brilliant, he advised us on where to go and what sights were well worth visiting. He was also on hand if we needed anything or more advise. In all it was a lovely holiday and we are counting the days untill we return.
The beautiful Atlantic on the west coast, such as La Tranch Sur Mer and Les Conches are approx 40 mins drive. La Rochelle is just 30 mins drive and is famous for its old port, shops, sea food restaurants on the harbour and pretty bistros.
La Rochelle Airport 40 mins. Nantes airport 1 hour. Poitiers airport 1 hour. St Malo 3 hours. Caen 4.5 hours.
Beaches 40 mins approx. La rochelle 30 mins. Fontenay 10 mins. Local restaurant, bar tobac, shop, hairdressers-walking distance. Mevent 20 mins. vouvant 25 mins.
In the village local activities include a tennis court, horse riding equestrian centre, rowing boats to hire.
Beautiful walks, bike rides and fishing.
Rose Farmhouse is set down a quiet country lane. It is located in a rural village, with a shop for your fresh baguette, hairdressers and tabac within walking distance. For a delicious evening meal, we suggest the local pretty restaurant ‘auberge de la riviere’ just a 10 minute walk where they serve excellent French food and wine whilst you dine alfresco with the views of the river. You can also hire out little rowing boats here in the daytime. For a range of fresh fruit, there is also pretty melon stall 5 mins drive. Located in the South Vendee, and only 10 minutes drive from the historic renaissance town of Fontenay Le Comte which has a great variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, hypermarkets etc and a great Saturday morning market. The town of Lucon is 20 minutes away. Close to the waterways and canals of the Marais Poitevin with great fishing (permits available from the local bar tabac). The forest of Mervent 20 mins, for walking, cycling, canoeining. and a great zoo. Vineyard 5 mins away.
