Apartment in Dalyan - Peaceful Location in fields, 5-10 mins walk from town
About Celia Thompson
My name is Celia and I am a freelance dietitian/nutritionist. Ian, my husband, is a Director of a software company. We live in Surrey close to our 2 daughters Alice and Kate. We have always travelled a lot and returned to Turkey most years (usually Dalyan for one week and somewhere new for the other) since our first trip there in 1987. We hadn't planned to buy somewhere but absolutely fell in love with Meadow Apartment and it's situation when we first saw it. We visit Dalyan around 3 times a year. Our girls have loved it whatever their ages (as it suits all ages) and they still continue to visit a couple of times a year now they are in their early 30's. If you choose to visit our apartment we hope you will love it and Dalyan as much as we do!
Celia Thompson purchased this Apartment in 2008
Why Celia Thompson chose Dalyan
We have been visiting Dalyan for about 25 years with our 2 daughters. We have travelled all around Turkey and have visited some amazing places but it is still Dalyan that draws us back. We have stayed in many different hotels and then in 2008 we fell in love with Meadow Apartment and its beautiful setting. We feel Dalyan has something for everyone and all ages, and even though it can be very busy at times, you can always find somewhere peaceful, especially at our Apartment. Meadow Apartment is situated just outside the town in a rural road populated with chickens. dogs & frogs. It almost feels like it could be in the middle of nowhere but is in fact only 10 minutes walk from the bars, restaurants and shops. We hope you will love it as much as we do!
What makes this Apartment unique
Meadow Apartment is a special place. It has amazing views of mountains, fields, the river and the sea and even views of the rock tombs from the top balcony. It is surrounded by wildlife and even has it's own resident small owl family. The gardens are spacious and relaxing and yet the walk into town is only ten minutes along the lane and just five minutes to the first shop/snack bar. Sitting on our top balcony early in the evening you can enjoy fabulous views, and watch the owls and bats flying around you. There are also so many different things to do in and around Dalyan such as boat trips to the beach and the lake, mud baths, jeep safari, white water rafting, canyoning, 12 islands boat trip and many walks, cycle rides etc.

Special interest holidays:
Dalyan is very popular with birdwatchers. Dalyan sits on the Dalyan river between the Mediterranean and Koycegiz lake. The river meanders, forming a network of small lakes. It travels through reed beds which range in height from 3 to 5 metres. These wetlands are home to many bird species and storks regularly nest in the area.
Iztuzu beach is a beautiful stretch of golden sand approximately 5 kms long. It is famous as an important nesting ground for the loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta and is a protected beach.
There are 2 ways to get to the beach from Dalyan. Firstly a slow and relaxing boat ride through the reed beds to one end, or an exhilarating minibus ride over the mountain to the other end. A lovely thing to do is to get the boat to one end, walk along the beach and get the bus back, or vice versa.
Dalyan is situated 25km from Dalaman airport and the journey to the apartment takes approximately 30 minutes.
A car is not needed as there are so many things to do locally and there are many tours available (you would be collected from and returned to the apartment). Water taxis and local minibuses run regularly to the beach. However it is easy to hire a car if you want to travel further afield.
Bicycles and mopeds are both easy to rent at very reasonable prices.
Dalaman airport is 25 kilometres.
The ruins of ancient Kaunos are 2 kilometres.
Iztuzu turtle beach 10 kilometres.
The closest restaurants and supermarkets are just a five minute WALK from the apartment. There is a huge choice of restaurants in Dalyan to suit all tastes. Many of these line the riverside where you can look at the illuminated rock tombs or see turtles.
Adventure sports, beach swimming, cycling, boating, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, sailing and scuba diving are all available very locally or within a short drive.
There are also many shops for souvenirs in Dalyan (carpets, pottery, mosaic lights, jewellery, clothes) and a weekly market on Saturdays.
