Villa in Alcaucin, Costa del Sol, Spain - Peace, quiet and comfort, near to the white puebo village Of Alcaucin. You'll never want to leave!
About Jill Firth
This has been our family home in Spain since 2004 and we all love it. We chose southern Spain for the climate and sun and the area for its beauty, peace, Spanish flavour, accessibility to the airport and reasonable flight times from the UK. We all live in the UK and busy lives mean the times we can visit Casa Louisa are limited. We want other people to enjoy what is to us a very special place and letting in summer means we can have a team in Spain to keep the house, the pool and the garden in tip-top order while we are away. Also, we hope to make improvements to the house each year ... often suggestions from guests. We love the peace and tranquility of the Axarquia valley, its dramatic landscapes with the Sierras all around, its charm and its history and we hope you will too.

Casa Louisa July 2019 - great villa
Casa Louisa offered lots of space for a bigger group and was very well equipped. Views and pool were fabulous. Loads of useful info from the owner upfront, property manager locally was also excellent. Would definitely return!
Couldn't have been better...
We had a wonderful week at Casa Louisa. Everything ran smoothly right from the initial booking with excellent communications and advance material from Jill, through to the arrival and being met and escorted to the villa by Bayan. The villa is something special, in a beautiful setting with spectacular views across the countryside. Designed for relaxing, there are sofas and chairs inside and out and a lovely pool area. What more can be said? We couldn't fault it.
We were a group of 13, 4 families, a mixture of adults and teenagers. Where can I start? Let's start with Bayan and Mat? They were our first point of contact and they were just incredible. Met us in the outskirt of Alcaucin as agreed, led us to Casa Louisa and walked us through this beautiful villa. We loved it from the first sight. The position of the villa, swimming pool, outdoor pizza oven, the terrace, and the view were just amazing. The interior and exterior of this villa are just beautifully put together, aesthetically pleasing, yet practical on every level; from needle to walking sticks, exercise mats, plenty of pots and pans...you name it, everything was at our disposal. We made the most of it, eating breakfast and dinner outside on the terrace enjoying the magnificent view which made it difficult to part from it. The villa is in a good position for sightseeing nearby towns, like Granada and Alhambra, Cordoba, the coast, or just simply choose to go for a walk through olive, orange, lemon, avocado, and almond trees taking in all the pleasant aromas and tranquility of the surrounding. It has good accessible walking paths as it lies just near the Natural Park. There are plenty of leaflets in the villa to help you out.
All in all, we had a fabulous time in Casa Louisa and hope to return soon to this beautiful place.
Jill, thank you very much for sharing your beautiful villa with us.
We are delighted you all had a wonderful time at Casa Louisa. As a family we love the house and it gives us great pleasure to share its joys with others. Our team work hard to make sure our guests have as good an experience as possible whilst they are there and will appreciate your kind comments. Thank you for taking care of the house whilst you were there ... you all welcome to return at any time!
Well equipped villa
This is a very well equipped villa, with everything you would need for a great stay. The surroundings are beautiful. Lots of plates, glasses, pool side plastic dishes provided - which is really good. The villa has lots of books and games for everyone and there is plenty of fridge space, although freezer space is more limited.
There were essentials such as toilet paper, dishwasher tablets and washing power provided in the villa, which is a bonus. The information provided about the villa, both before and during our stay was very informative.
Our stay was spoilt by the villa being broken into on the Sunday night in the middle of our stay, due to a shutter breaking on the previous Friday. All the doors were locked however, but I guess security could be a risk anywhere you stay. The repair was carried out in response on the afternoon on the day of the break in. Jill, the property owner, was very apologetic about our experience on our return but it did mean that we were anxious for the remainder of our stay and had to watch our spending due to having less cash for the second week of our holiday.
It’s a lovely villa, but our experience was marred by this.
Thanks very much for saying how lovely you all thought Casa Louisa was and how beautiful its situation. Your comments here are in line with literally all the responses we have had from families who have stayed over the time we have been letting the house over summer. Many have returned two, three and four times ... which is a great compliment in itself. During your own stay you emailed me to say you believed 100 euros and a £50 note had been taken from a wallet whilst you were all sleeping. Although nothing else was missing you believed the house had been broken into overnight. As you say in your review all the doors were locked at the time and as it is impossible to enter the house through any of them when it is all locked up without damage it is indeed a mystery. (The windows, in common with all houses in Spain, have the traditional wrought iron security bars). Our House Manager visited after your call to him and could find no evidence of forced entry and nor could the technician who came with him to repair a broken shutter strap. They were at a loss to explain how the money could have been taken. You did not want to involve the police.
We are fortunate to reside in a beautiful location. The peace, tranquillity and general safety of the area is something our neighbours, our guests and we ourselves appreciate. Incidents such as the one you reported are extremely rare in Alcaucin.
After you had left our managers discovered one of the large pool umbrellas had been broken during your stay although you had not mentioned this after your departure to any of us. We returned your deposit in full and did not deduct the cost of replacement as a gesture because you believed your stay was marred.
Ticked all the boxes
We had the most amazing time at Casa Louisa. From first contact to departure Jill made everything so easy and straight forward. June and Steve were there to meet us and guide us to the property. They explained everything and gave us a guided tour of the house. Casa Louisa was a home from home and everything clearly marked and explained. The villa was so big it meant that we had so much space. There were 3 adults and 4 children, the children loved the swimming pool and table tennis... we had the best time and I would definitely recommend casa Louisa and we are looking forward to going back...
I'm so glad you all had a great time ... and very pleased you found everything easy and comfortable in the house. The team work hard to keep everything up to scratch and its good to know it works. We would be delighted to welcome you back!
Wonderful house - great for a family vacation!
We enjoyed our stay at casa louisa very much. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. During the day we lounged at the pool while enjoying the view over the valley and in the evening we used the barbecue and had dinner at the terrace.
We went for walks in the area, had dinner at the local restaurant and drove to the beach a couple of times.
A beautiful, serene getaway that is well-equipped for both children and adults!
We are delighted you all enjoyed yourselves at Casa Louisa. Its very important to us that our guests are comfortable and happy with everything they need for a good holiday ... and it seems you were. Thank you for looking after the house while you were there.
The nearest beaches are at Torre del Mar, Caleta or El Morches (about 20-25 minutes drive) ... large very Spanish busy seaside resorts; huge, long, safe, sandy beaches with a long promenades and plenty of beach bars. Burriana beach (in Nerja and with all the up-market trappings ... sunbeds, icecream parlours and so forth) is about 40 minutes and worth a trip for a visit to this pretty lilttle pueblo town and paella on the beach alone! Sand on this coast is clean and stone-coloured.
Car essential. Malaga airport is about and hour's easy drive from Alcaucin (64 kilometres) first along the coastal motorway and then inland for 20 minutes on a good road. You meet House Managers at and easy-to-find local restaurant and they will lead you up to Casa Louisa when you arrive. The last 2 kilometres is on an unmade and concrete road, which gives access to many houses in the area so although the house is quite private its not isolated.
Our local, very Spanish village of Alcaucin is 20-25 minutes walk, mostly flat or about 5 minutes drive; Puente don Manuel in the valley below with all the shops for your every day needs is 6 kilometres away. The coast where you will find all the large supermarkets, shops, water park, local markets and beaches is 20 to 25 minutes drive depending on the traffic. Allow around 3/4 hour to the pretty pueblo town of Nerja; about one and a half hours to Granada if you want to visit the Alhambra.
Although its hard to drag yourself away from the tranquility and comfort of Casa Louisa if you want some action there is plenty to be had. You can just pop into Alcaucin or down Puente don Manuel for all your everyday shopping needs and choose from several local restaurants offering freshly cooked food at reasonable prices if thats as far as you want to go. The national park with its cool pine forests and stunning vistas just above the house and the mountains on the doorstep and all around call out to be explored and walking or mountain-biking there is a real joy. But if you want to go further afield ,the full-on experience of the coast is only a short drive away. Traditional markets, local shops with traditional Spanish wares superb fish restaurants, large supermakets and shops for the shopaholics and the family-fun water park (open in summer) are all within easy reach. Towns such as Antequera, the impressive national park of El Torcal with the amazing limestone 'moonscape', the famous small pueblo villages of Andalucia, the pretty bustling town of Nerja, the ancient caves in Moro with all the stalegmites and stalagmites and stalactites you would expect, the unmissable Alhambra in Granada, the facinating little city of Cordoba, hot springs in the ancient town of Alhama de Granada, the salt lakes of Fuente de la Piedra with thousands of breeding flamingos in Spring make for excellent days out. In the villa you will find guide books and pull-out directions for you to take with you if you feel like setting out somewhere. Short as well as longer self-guided walk sheets will take you up into the park and mountains without fear of getting lost ... although we have local guides who would be delighted to take you walking or a day out mountain-biking so that you get the best of a day in this stunning area. River-walking is a great thing to do in the summer! The area is fantastic for cycling on the quiet mountain roads amid the wonderful scenery and we can arrange bike hire for you locally.
