Lovely peaceful setting
The house was lovely and clean and well equipped. It's location to Lac Chambon was brilliant. Really good beach with watersports and a delightful temperature to swim in. The owners made us very welcome and it was reassuring that they were only 30 mins away should be have needed them. We didn't. The region is packed with pretty towns and stunning countryside. Our two weeks were bliss.
Clean property, lovely garden and surrounding area
We stayed at Les Touches for 1 week in early July and thoroughly enjoyed our week there. It was one of our best French Holidays and we’ve been coming for many years now, although only the last few free of children.
The house is nice and clean and has all the amenities you are likely to need. With the window shutters it’s relatively easy to keep cool during the day. The garden is delightful, it’s very large, flat and always has an area of shade. Neighbours are shielded behind fairly dense hedging/trees and although you can hear them from time to time didn’t disturb us. There were a couple of decent sun loungers available and some garden games if you are so inclined.
The area around Bonnu is a real gem. We would thoroughly recommend an early walk to the beach at Bonnu, even taking it easy and on a hot day it will take 15 mins going and about 25 mins back on the fairly substantial sloping road. However the reward for not going the 3 minutes by car is worth the effort. The views are spectacular, you will pass a very small private Chateau which was exceptionally pretty when we went and even has a moat with water. Going early in your week you’ll also get a good view of the other beaches and water sports available at some other local spots.
We also went to Argenton for a walk around which we found to be a lovely full of character town which was surprisingly quiet. The walk up to the church is worth the views at the top as well as passing some very nice old houses. The houses over-hanging the river also are worth the view. One advantage to visiting Argenton from Bonnu is that you’ll pass a little village where the Chateau de Gargileese is located. Whilst we didn’t go at a time this was open (it rarely is) the tiny village is again well worth a wander around. There’s plenty more things to do beside these 2 ideas.
If I was pushed to say what could be improved with the property I’d say some sort of guest guide with details of local markets, places to visit etc would be really appreciated. Whilst there are many tourist leaflets in the house a little written local knowledge from the owners is invaluable.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the house was superb, the weather brilliant and the location a surprise with its variety and prettiness
A lovely place to stay
We enjoyed 2 very happy weeks in this clean, comfortable and well equipped house, in this lovely part of France.
The garden has to be seen to be believed - huge and gorgeous. The house is well positioned for lots of local historic attractions and lakeside swimming beaches. The nearest one, (and nicest) is only a 3 minute drive from the house.
The owners are lovely and give as much assistance as required without being overbearing. We would thoroughly recommend this property for a holiday.
la maison est très bien située proche du Lac, accessible à pied après une petite promenade. Le jardin est IMMENSE, idéal pour les jeux d'enfants et le farniente des parents (transats disponibles). La ville d'Eguzon est à proximité pour les commerces.
Lac Chambon is a man made lake with a hydroelectric dam. There are three man made beaches the nearest of which is ten minutes walk. Swimming in the lake is excellent with good summer temperatures. There are beaches a bit further afield on the river Creuse.
The nearest airport is Limoges which has daily flights from Stansted. Limoges is about an hour away from the house. Cars can be hired at the airport. For road travellers the channel ports are approximately 6 hours away.
The village of Eguzon is about twenty minutes drive and provides traditional French, shopping and supermarket, doctors surgery, post-office and banks. Argenton-sur-Creuse about half an hours drive is a very attractive town with many amenities including a museum, swimming pools and cinema. Gargilesse is occupied by many artists during the summer months.
