About Ray Cooper (Owner)
Living in the South East of England, Wildwood is our gateway to the great outdoors and adventure. It's where we enjoy many activities like biking, hiking, kayaking, walking and exploring. It's our bolt hole to get away from the every day stresses of life. Over the years we have made many friends in the area and enjoy our regular trips to the fantastic Scottish Highlands and all it has to offer.
Ray Cooper (Owner) purchased this House in 2007
Why Ray Cooper (Owner) chose Fort Augustus
Fort Augustus is the epicentre of the Scottish Highlands. Wildwood is situated in the heart of the Inchnacardoch Forest and is a home away from the bustle of everyday modern life - even after just one week you will feel refreshed and have a new vigor to resume your normal life back home. Wildwood will hopefully give you a small snapshot of a time long ago where families and couples can enjoy each others company even in this fast paced world which we now reside. Take time to enjoy the remoteness of the forest walks, to smell the trees, listen to the birds, see the deer and enjoy proper conversation with loved ones. Have a great holiday!

Lovely clean property,in a fantastic location
We had a lovely 10 day holiday here.Wildwood was a lovely well equipped, comfortable accommodation. It was situated in the forest,so very quiet. But only a short walk into Fort Augustus. where there were plenty of eating places.Shops, boat trips and next to the fantastic Caledonian canal.I would recommend it as a good location for beautiful walks, including a walk up Ben Nevis
Glad you and your family had a great time at Wildwood. Thank you for the nice review.
Beautiful setting in a wonderful forest. Very clean, comfortable and spacious accommodation.
Thank you. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Wildwood and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Owners staying at their own place
As the owner it is good to stay at Wildwood and enjoy the ambience that this log house provides. We spent our time deep cleaning the property and general maintenance works, keeping Wildwood up to scratch. Things being done over the next couple of weeks include a new stone driveway, more winter gardening work, rooms painted, floors varnished, kitchen painted, bathrooms resealed, new sofa's installed, new hob installed, lighting up dated to LED, new timer switch, new panel heaters, furniture either repaired or replaced, new Christmas Tree, new pots and pans and additional kitchenware.
So lot's done and more to be done over the next couple of weeks.
Christmas is booked but New Year is now re-available due to unforeseen circumstances.
A busy year for Wildwood and thank you's to all who stayed and enjoyed this majestic part of the Highlands.
We (and Bracken & Milo) welcome you back next year.
Bookings are already coming in so if you have a specific date in mind don't delay, book before you become disappointed.

New Year is now Booked....
Lovely cabin, perfect location
Arrived and everything was as it was described. Deceptively spacious property which worked well with 8 adults. Perfect location for kayaking and for evenings out in Fort Augustus as only 1.5 miles down the road (there is only the one). Clean, tidy and well equipped as well as being very warm although that could have also been due to the unseasonably mild weather! Good storage in nearby stable/shed so ideal for those on biking or kayaking trips or just somewhere to hang those wet smelly outdoor clothes. Would definitely recommend it for all of the above reasons as well as being in a beautiful part of the country.
Glad you enjoyed your stay!
We look forward to welcoming you in the future. 👌🏻
feels like you're a forestkeeper at the log house
We stayed (5 dutch guys in their fifties and sixties) at the log house the first week of september, had a great time in Fort Augustus.
The log house is at a very nice location (good start for a forestwalk) and very well equipped, good beds and bathrooms. The living is perfect in the evening to end the day around the fireplace with a dram of Talisker. If you want to dine near Log Ness we recommend the Boathouse
Beautiful, secluded and well furnished
A group of friends and I stayed here for 7 nights in August. The house is located 5 minutes drive from Fort Augustus and this can be walked in around 25 minutes.
There are a number of great forest walks around the house with varying lengths and difficulties (can also be good for mountain biking). The house is in the middle of the forest so there is no requirement to walk along any roads to get to the walks. There is a lot of wildlife, with frogs, birds, pine martins and badgers in the area (put out some jam at night and you might see some of the rarer creatures).
The lodge is located very near to a number of adventure activities centres where you can do canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and quad biking. You can also explore waterfalls, the Fort Augustus Canal Lock and the famous Urquhart Castle.
The lodge itself is very well laid out with a good sized kitchen, dining table and living room. There were 9 of us in the house at one point and we never felt too cramped. There are 6 beds provided but there is plenty of space for airbeds and the sofas are very comfortable!
The lodge is kitted out with board games and TV and although there was no wifi or phone reception, there was always something for us to do.
All in all a very good trip and I would like to return in the future.
Thank you for your review, appreciated. We are glad you had a great time at Wildwood and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
The East and West coast of the Scottish Highlands have some wondrous beaches and are perhaps worth a visit, probably the nearest and best are the sandy beaches of Narn towards Inverness. Allow for this as a day trip in the car. Nearer to home the South side of Loch Ness has some unspoilt little beaches and well worth an explore with the car to investigate. Just watch out for Nessie!
The nearest airport is Inverness, with main airline services. There are a number of hire car companies that operate from here. Wildwood is about a forty minute drive from the airport. Due to the localities of the Scottish Highlands and Wildwood, a car is an essential.
Wildwood is only a few minutes in to the forest from Fort Augustus by car and a pleasant 20 minute stroll on those nicer days. Inverness, the shopping capital of the Highlands can be reached by car, coach (regular services from Fort Augustus) or ferry (straight up Loch Ness). The car journey is around 35 minutes. In the other direction, Fort William, the outdoor capital, is again reached by car in about 35 minutes.
Loch Ness, perhaps the most famous loch in the world, starts at Fort Augustus.
The village of Fort Augustus contains local shops for your convenience, a petrol station and a number of restaurants, cafes and bars. A lazy afternoon sitting in the sun outside the local pubs eating good food and sampling the local fluids whilst watching the various boats navigate through the Caledonian canal locks on their way up the Great Glen is an afternoon well spent.
There are all your local services in Fort Augustus including an information centre full of great ideas to entertain you or the kids whilst away on your well earned break, a couple of chip shops, bank, vets and doctors to name a few.
