Valpiana, was originally a farmhouse and it dates back in our family to 1645. It has been recently renovated keeping its original structure and great Tuscan atmosphere. It lies on a plateau at 470 mt of altitude and is surrounded by a vineyard and olive grooves, enjoying stunning views on each side, in a very unspoiled environment. Valpiana is the largest house of our estate and is surrounded by a beautiful vineyard in the Chianti Rufina region. It lies at 400 mts on sea level, 3 kilometers from the pretty village of Londa, 32 km from Florence . The house enjoys stunning views from all the windows looking either on the front garden with cypress trees, according to the most typical Tuscan tradition, or on the spectacular 6 acres vineyard.

On the ground floor is the entrance hall with its original stone floor, the a cozy large dining room/kitchen, a big living room with its spectacular huge FIRE PLACE, a bedroom for one person and a bathroom with toilet. Upstairs are all the 6 bedrooms, very spacious and light full and 2 other bathrooms with toilets that are modern and functional. All the rooms have their original wooden ceilings while the floors have partly been renovated, using the original material, Terracotta. Three sleeping rooms have double beds, and there is an option to connect 2 single beds in case four double beds are desired. The house Valpiana is very nicely decorated with original and antique furniture from the area and family heirlooms,in genuine Tuscan style, with particular care to the comfort!

The house is surrounded by the very big and well cared, fenced garden provided with outside furniture, barbecue, swing and the private pool (7 meter of diameter)

Valpiana is a typical old Tuscan farmhouse . It is very spacious (around 250 sq/m on two floors. From the large entrance hall still boasting the original stone floor, you enter the kitchen , the sitting room and the dining room. A stone staircase leads upstairs to a beautiful airy room which gives access to the six bedrooms and the bathrooms.

The big garden, private and well maintained is equipped with garden furniture and a barbecue and it offers a parking space for at least 4 cars.

The pool is open from half May, until third week of September.

Valpiana is ideal for family and friends gatherings, being very spacious inside and enjoying a large manicured garden outside with rosemary, lavender, lilac and all sorts of herbs and flowers, which are the special care and pride of the owner’s daughter-in-law whose family lives in the converted barn beside Valpiana.

We live on site, and can provide you with tips; For trips and city breaks.

About Tommaso & Nanette

Buongiorno, we are Tommaso and Nanette, we live in the barn house nearby casa Valpiana and we take care of the Villa with its surroundings.

Valpiana was originally an old farmhouse, since 1645 in our family. In the past, even 24 people lived here and worked in the vineyard and in the fields around the house. A few years ago we transformed Valpiana into a holiday-house, saving the original Tuscan atmosphere, while offering all the essential comforts.

We are a friendly family with two children, olive groves, oil-milll, vineyard and small winery. We do everything in an organic way out of respect for the nature and the next generations. Tommaso is a wine and olive oil expert and Nanette is the one with green fingers. We both speak English.

Tommaso & Nanette purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why Tommaso & Nanette chose Londa

It's located in a central position between three beautiful regions from Tuscany, like Montagna Fiorentina, Casentino and Mugello, Florence is only 35 km away.

The house and surrounding have a very relax atmosphere and is located in a peaceful green environment at the border of a National Park.

Many of our guests fell in love with Valpiana and enjoyed much the offered hospitality and the possibility to make a wine and olive oil tour and taste.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Villa Valpiana lies at the border of the National Park Casentino Forest. It's a green and peaceful little paradise. It's on the flat top of a hill, overlooking the charming vilage of Londa and its lake. The view is really beautiful everywhere you look. Villa Valpiana is very sunny and for this reason it is a perfect spot for growing vines, olives, fruit trees and to enjoy a large beautiful garden with a pool you don't have to share!

This big house is pittoresque and appreciated for its embracing atmosphere, privacy, pleasant coolness during warm days and childfriendly.

Its position is ideal to make day trips to the famous Tuscan towns and to enjoy Nature in a relaxed or sportive way.

The host (ess) are happy to give you tips for your needs and trips! They can organize wine tastings, visits to their olive oil mill, etc..

Valpiana is beautiful, welcoming and relaxed. The house is detached and surrounded by it's own lovely garden with cypresses, flowers, cooking herbs and fruit trees, a vineyard, olive tree fields and forest. Everything is permeated by a peaceful Tuscan-country atmosphere and located on the border of a nature park.

In the cozy village Londa (3 km near by) the people are kind and helpful. You can find there everything you need. It is as well easy to go out for dinner, within a radius of 1 to 4 km you find 4 good restaurants.

If you come to Valpiana it is necessary you come by car (or rent). Parking is never a problem. Public transport tip: Jump on the train in Contea-Londa train station. Florence is just 35 kilometers away and very easy to visit by train (nice relaxing Tuscan journey, and no parking stress).

"Here with family for my 40th Birthday celebration. For 6 months I had thought of nothing else, so was very worried that it might not live up to expectation - no need to worry !!

For two weeks it has been like living in a dream. Stunning surroundings, beautiful garden and pool and the house wraps its arms around you as soon as you walk through the doors." (Holly Migden, England)

"We have fallen in love with Valpiana! The house is just wonderful, the views spectacular and Londa is a delight. Wonderful house, tastefully restored in keeping with Tuscan traditions, it was a pleasure to stay here!" (Jo Randall, September)

Perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

Valpiana is an amazing place to stay; the location is perfect for exploring Tuscany by car and train; it is easily accessibly from airports; and the setting is incredible. The farmhouse has everything you need to accommodate a large party (we were 9 getting together for a family celebration) and is clean and comfortable. You can easily explore the surrounding area or just stay at the villa and relax all week! Tommaso and Nanette were fantastic hosts, incredibly welcoming and kind. I would definitely recommend Valpiana, and will be visiting again!

Our Italian home, sweet home!

  • 5 of 5

Dear Diary,

We all have our little dreams that hopefully become true some day! Our awesome little family, with little Aribellissima, lovely Annely and amazing Elario has fullfilled one of our biggest and bravest adventures in 2014!

Valpiana became our home on the very moment we arrived. A proper home goes hand in hand with laughter, happy feelings and good friends! Fortunately enough, we found lifelong happy friends from the neighbouring barn, to whom we hope to see again already on "saturday".

These two months in Valpiana were like a dream! We have written an unforgetable chapter to our memories... by seeing our little Aribellissima`s first 17 steps, by learning to love our neighbours (something new to estonians), by loading our "batteries" with vitamine-D, by running in the forest, by harvesting grapes, seeing nature and animals (especially the 3 musketeers, the dogs - Dorothy, Agatha and Luna). As well as by laughing and eating with Tommaso, Nanette, Gioconda and Casimiro... but mostly by being together as a family on an adventure!

It can not be put in words! You can feel the energy inside us and see it on our faces, as we walk here, back in Tallinn.. but in our hearts, still in Valpiana.

A., mini-A. and e.

Valpiana is truly relaxing even if there is nothing to do. All we did all day long was drinking wine, chill, had family quality time, picking cherries and strawberries, sitting by the pool, enjoying the cool weather, BBQ etc. The road to Valpiana was narrow and it was my first time driving on the left side of the car. Everything was opposite but after seeing Valpiana, it was all worth it. The town of Londa was really small but friendly people. I still very much prefer the people in Londa compared to Rome or Venice. People just say hi and smile at you by the streets while in Rome and Venice, we are just so used to getting the “No” treatment. It seemed that although language is a barrier, but the people in Londa still find ways to help you happily with smiley faces. Nanette and family were one of the most accommodating families we have met. Nanette teaches us about the herbs around the wonderful house and used them as well in our cooking. Almost everything around the house has a…aroma…

Nanette kids were friendly too. It was a surprise that her lil girl could speak good English and she too taught us about herbs around the house.

My son and I were sick the moment we arrived Italy (probably due to change of weather) and Nanette gave us their cough syrups (really sorry didn't had the time to replace them!). I have to say that the only place I love staying during our 2 weeks stay in Italy was Valpiana. My folks and kids enjoyed the place. My kids were running around the place freely. I did not really enjoy Rome and venice. Probably because we keep on encountering unfriendly and rude people (not everyone!), got a ticket for doing right, very hot and crowd everywhere and probably almost ruined our holiday mood.

I really recommend

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Valpiana with our friend family. There was four adults and five children (age 14, 13, 9, 8, 6) of us. The house was really nice old stone house in between the wine yards. View was wonderful. It was great to wake up in the morning, open the windows and look at all the nice Tuscany hills and down to valley. Life was very peaceful all the time. Nanette and Tommaso is a brilliant couple with wonderful kids and kind dogs. Nanette and Tommaso helped us very kindly, if we needed any advices or whatever. We had so great time that we did not move quite much. Children swam and we brought good food ( for example great meat from the butler) from Londa village and had a good barbeque parties almost every night. Thank you for the relaxing vacation! I really recommed the place to everyone. (Only notice that the pool is 120 cm deep, so little children can´t swim there without adults.)

The perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

For the first time, we decided to go on vacation, all the family at once, a big family of 11 (9 adults and two teenagers). The highlight of our trip was definitely where we had chosen to stay, the lovely house kept by Nanette and Tommaso.

The house is a real beauty with it's ancestral charm. We were worried that it would be cold inside, because both the walls and floors are made of stone, but it was never a problem. Every bed is provided with a most comfortable duvet. Plus there are a couple stoves in the house if it gets chilly. The living room's fireplace is very impressive. I have never seen anything like it. We had lots of fun playing card at night in front of the fire.

The two bathrooms are modern, very clean and functional, both with a shower, and one has a washing machine. We were pleased to find racks in the yard for our laundry.

Although the kitchen looks small, it was never a problem to be at least two people cooking together. It was equipped with everything we needed, including big cooking pots, which was perfect for a large group.

The garden is lovely. The large table was one of our favourite gathering spots. There are also four lounging chairs to relax in the sun. My favourite part was the herb garden. Nanette kindly gave us a tour so we could recognize each herb. There are lots, even laurel, which in Canada I had never even seen fresh!

As for the parking space, we had two vey large vans and the space was plentiful.

We had a stunning view of the surrounding mountains, and of course, of the vineyard. We found it very pleasant to have a walk around, either up through the to vineyard, or by the olive grove. Walking to the village is a good walk, very feasable, but the return can be harder since it's like climbing a mountain! Londa has grocery shops, pharmacy, bank...

We were the luckiest people on earth to get the chance to help with the harvest of the grapes; it was one of my dad's dream. It was a wonderful experience and we love that we got to share this with Nanette and Tommaso. They are honestly the kindest!

We also got to visit the family's Olive oil mill in Londa. It was a quite interesting tour and we had lots of fun!

A short drive away, we loved the Castle of Poppi. Another highlight is that you can take the train from Contea (10 min drive) straight to Florence, at walking distance of the Duomo.

I would highly recommend staying at Valpiana. Everybody loved it! We were so kindly welcomed and we would love to go back someday

Relaxing Tuscan Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit to this lovely Tuscan Villa and we were not disappointed. The owners Tommaso and Nanette warmly welcomed us back with homemade jam and a bottle of their outstanding organic wine. Set in beautiful gardens and next to the vineyard Valpiana is a large traditional style old farmhouse which has been tastefully restored and decorated. The kitchen is very well equipped but I must say we chose to eat out every night . Londa the small town down the road has good restaurants that all offer reasonably priced menu's with great pasta and meat dishes . ( fabulous pizza's too ) Further down from Londa is Contea where it is easy to catch the train to Florence where there are further opportunities to dine out and visit outstanding museums and of course fantastic shops. However you may find it difficult to leave the beauty of Valpiana as we did and prefer to chill by the pool and take in the gorgeous views whilst sipping on a small glass of something!

I would recommend Valpiana to anyone who wants to have a true relaxing Tuscan experience. Here's hoping for another visit soon .
