- English, French, German, Italian, Dutch
Our names are Pietro Bianchessi and Marijke de Jong. I am Italian and was raised in Crema (Cremona, Italy) whereas my wife Marijke is Dutch and was raised in Bergen-N.H. (The Netherlands). We met in Holland in 1969, and were married in 1975. We lived in The Netherlands (Bergen, Eindhoven), Canada (Montreal), Italy (Ivrea) and Luxembourg (Schrassig). In 2005 we retired and in 2007 we bought this property in Barga. During our travels we have often visited guest houses, backpackers, hostels and B&B's and thought we could use our experience as guests to play the hosts. This is how we came to be here and are now offering our hospitality. We speak English. We spreken Nederlands. Nous parlons francais. Wir sprechen Deutsch. Parliamo italiano.

Why Owner chose Barga
We wanted to come and live in Italy. We were looking for a property in the country side, with a view, a good climate, yet within walking distance from a small town. A town with character and history, but also with a few restaurants, shops and cafés. A place where it would be possible for us to easily make new friends, both italian and foreign. We wanted an old property, with character. Near the mountains, yet not too far from the seaside. And within reasonable distance to an international airport. And not invaded by the tourist crowds. And reasonable prices (no tourist traps). Barga seemed the ideal location, with its Bargajazz festival, its lively scottish-italian community, its network of hiking trails in the Appennines and the Apuan Alps, its excellent trattorie and cosy cafés.
What makes this Guest House unique
The one thing which is special about La Serra di Barga is the view. Every morning when we open the window we have a stunning view on the Duomo and the Apuan Alps in the background (Pania della Croce and Pania Secca). In the evening, the valley reminds us of a presepio, with the lights of all the little villages up on the slopes of the mountain. Also, our house is situated amongst an olive grove, birds singing and flowers in the fields, in a pastural tranquillity. Yet we are only 20 minutes walk (1.5 km, 5 min by car) from shops and restaurants and cafés.

Top of the Line B&B
My husband and I spent 7 nights at this beautiful B&B, and we can honestly say it was everything we had hoped for. The views are amazing, our accommodations were excellent, and we loved breakfast! The hosts are friendly and helpful; we were extremely pleased, and even hope to return!

In Barga there are several shops, including a small Conad supermarket (there's a large Conad in Gallicano 7 km away). Some marvelous restaurants / Trattorie. Scacciaguai -refined cuisine and beautiful ambiente. Alpino -traditional cuisine, excellent wines.
