About clive cope
We're South African and live between Johannesburg and a converted barn on the same property, tucked out of sight of the main house. We - or a trusted member of our 'team' - will be available to make sure you have everything on your holiday wishlist from a sparkling pool to fresh flowers and everything in perfect working order. We also respect the privacy of our guests and will not hover or make you look at photos of our renovation. That's settled then, you are very welcome at La Baionnette: it's all yours.
clive cope purchased this Farmhouse in 2006
Why clive cope chose Vieux
Original charm of 19th century stone house updated with 21st century style and comforts. Generous light-filled rooms, well-equipped kitchen for competitive vacation cook-offs. Pool outside front door, coffee terrace, shady poolside dining. Pretty country views, tranquil and private, but well located to enjoy the best of this historic corner of the south-west with its fairytale villages, fresh produce markets, walking trails and impressive variety of local wines. Just hanging out at the pool ain't bad either. Great place to have a party - thanks to the secluded nature of La Baionnette, the neighbours will never complain.

Tranquil Peaceful Stay
Very lovely rural home, well equipped and very comfortable with a good sized saltwater swimming pool. Lots of villages around and nice restaurants but you would definitely need a car as they were all a few kilometres from the house but not too far. Night skies were amazing, lots of shooting stars and we enjoyed seeing all the birds of prey, deer and wildlife. There is horse riding nearby, canoeing and walking and bike hire so if you like the great outdoors and being away from it all, it was a perfect spot.
Very lovely guests too!
Wonderful house in a fabulous corner of France
La Baionette is exactly as described with everything one would need for a relaxing stay. Modern take on rustic farm house, excellent bed linen. Plenty of room for all the family inside and out. The pool and gardens are wonderful. You are surrounded by lavender and fields of sunflowers and vines when siting by the pool. The owner was communicative and so helpful leading up to the rental. We would certainly recommend this property and the surrounding area. There is an amazing triangular region between Gaillac, Albi and Lajac brimming with beautiful, fairytale villages, Corde sur Ciel is a must. We walked into the local village, Vieux and played boules with the locals on the Friday evening. Food festivals, markets brocantes, music and fireworks found everyday.
Charming, comfortable, cook's kitchen, fabulous pool. Best of the old updated with style
Farmhouse was a perfect place to explore this beautiful, historic area. we were lucky enough to be there in sunflower time! Loads to do - music, markets, wine tastings easy access to shops with great deli. In world heritage city Albi we enjoyed the Toulouse Lautrec museum and visiting the magnificent 11th century cathedral. Spent most time relaxing at the pool terrace with lovely views, cooking up meals from fresh local ingredients. Garden full of fairy lights at night. magic!
This was our second visit to La Baionnette after a 3 year gap. It really is the perfect place to get away from it all, but without sacrificing vital mod cons such as wifi to keep teenagers happy. The house is really well equipped and comfortable. The pool looks out over acres of fields, and there are butterflies and bees aplenty in the lavender. Charlotte is a great hostess - unobtrusive yet available to give advice and help when needed. It is remote - the nearest bakery is around 3km away - but that's its charm. Thoroughly recommended - there is lots to see and do in the area as well.
Wonderful hosts, superb gite and an incredible setting. Bliss!
Superb Gite in a magical part of France.
We have recenty returned from a second visit to La Baionette having fallen in love last year with this wonderful property and its location in a largely undiscovered part of France.
The house itself has all you will ever want from a holiday home in France - full of character and perfectly equipped including the all essential wi-fi for posting pictures of yourself sunning yourself by the "to die for" pool. That will make your friends and colleagues at home wish they had booked the place too!
Everything in this house is of high quality: Bedrooms are very comfortable - with proper mattresses (not the cheap French versions); the kitchen is excellent complete with range cooker, and outside you have the perfect shaded seating area for al fresco dining. During our two stays the weather has been kind enough that we were able to eat outside most days (for breakfast, lunch and dinner). A perfect enviornment for watching the sun set, and observing the wildlife - including swallows cleaning the pool for us of floating insects, deer in the fields, buzzards circling, the hoot of owls at night and the constant buzz of the crickets and grasshoppers.
For our stay this year we embraced the local atmosphere by "doing" even less - having taken up a few of Charotte's excellent restaurant recommendations in the house guide. In the surrounding area you will find the most beautiful unspoiled countryside, with hilltop villages with good restaurants and gorges for kayaking. The whole area is interspersed with vinyards and fields of sunflowers. Magic. And a big bonus is that the area is relatively quite in terms of tourist numbers...sort of like the Dordogne but without the crowds.
The owner Charlotte is charming and will go out of her way to help you have a great holiday whilst staying unobstrusively in the background. The gite itself is very private, but you have the added insurance of having the owner on site when you just can't work out how to turn on the gas oven, or when you need to know where the nearest decent restaurant is...
All in all, we love this place. Highly recommended. I am sure we will be back...
La Baïonnette is an hour's drive from Toulouse-Blagnac airport. A car is essential.
1km outside the village of Vieux. 4.5km from Cahuzac-sur-Vere, a gorgeous village with a family-run deli, butchery and bakery, as well as a bar, banks, etc.
15km from Gaillac, a bustling market town (railway station, large supermarkets, etc). 12km from Cordes-sur-Ciel (historic Bastide hilltop village). 25km from Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val (kayaking, river swimming, etc). 1-hour drive to Toulouse-Blagnac airport. 2-hour drive to the Spanish border and ski resort at Andorra.
La Baïonnette is within easy cycling or driving distance of the many historic Bastide villages, rivers, forests and kayak-friendly gorges that give this gently undulating part of south-western France its distinct character - not forgetting the numerous wine-tasting caves sprinkled across the landscape.
If you like boules, canoeing, cycling, fishing, golf, gourmet dining, hiking, horse riding, kayaking, mountain biking, photography, rambling, riverside activities, shopping, sightseeing, swimming, walking, and wine tasting, La Baïonnette is for you.
