Servian is a traditional wine producing village located between the sea and mountains, set on a hill overlooking the vineyards in the heart of the Hérault. The old town is 15th century with many narrow, twisting streets. Within walking distance in the village there are two cafe/bars that also serve lunch; two good restaurants with indoor/outdoor dining (a 3rd one is die to popen this summer!) a selection of takeaways (Oriental, pizza, kebabs etc) a bank, two cashpoints, post office, various shops including 3 bakers & 2 pharmacies, as well as a regular market, usually 3 times a week. There is also a local wine cave, local doctors, dentist and a vet. Within a short walk is also a large supermarket, a petrol station, large municipal swimming pool, tennis courts and sports centre. The surrounding area is great for cycling, walking and picnics. There is a good choice of Mediterranean beaches close by, the nearest being the fashionable holiday resort of Cap d`Agde with beautiful long sandy beaches. Try to catch one of the local water jousting tournaments that take place throughout the summer in Adge, Marseillan and Sete! Both the Herault River and the Canal du Midi offer opportunities for fishing, boat trips and hire. At Cap D'Agde there is also a golf course, horse-riding and various watersports including wind surfing, scuba diving and jet ski hire.
To the north of Servian is the pretty River Orb with its river beaches, ideal for swimming, canoeing & picnics. Further north the terrain becomes more mountainous in the National park where you can visit gorges and inland lakes such as Lac du Salagou. Ideal for bathing, windsurfing, fishing and hilly walks.
