Cosy cottage, sleeps 5, 2 bathrooms, stunning views, short walk to Ambleside
About Chrissie Taylor
After spending many happy holidays in the Lake District with our three children we eventually bought Bluebell Cottage. We have made the cottage a home from home as we often use it ourselves. Our family, now all grown up and with children of their own, love the cottage and the Lake District, especially Ambleside as it is so convenient.
Chrissie Taylor purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Chrissie Taylor chose Ambleside
We bought Bluebell Cottage because we wanted somewhere to escape to and came across this delightful property whilst looking for other properties in the area. Bluebell Cottage appealed to us straight away because it is set above the village of Ambleside in a quiet backwater away from the crowds and has stunning views across the fells. It is in a great position for walkers as the cottage is centrally located for exploring the Lake District and there are also great walks from the doorstep. The cruises that run the length of Lake Windermere are five minutes walk away at Waterhead and from here you can hire rowing boats. With the village of Ambleside only a few minutes walk from the cottage there is so much to do and see in the area you can never be bored. We love it.
What makes this Cottage unique
Bluebell Cottage has everything you need to make your stay extremely comfortable. It has been decorated to our taste and is a cosy haven of peace. As you enter the cottage there is a porch with a range of storage for boots and coats - great for wet weather and sailing gear. In the sitting room there is a wood burning stove for cosy evenings by the fire. There is a dining table in the sitting room which pulls out to seat eight comfortably so that you have the choice to eat in style or at the large pine kitchen table. The dining kitchen is fully equipped with all that you could possibly need. The village of Ambleside, which sits at the top end of Lake Windermere, has a range of restaurants offering a variety of choice, plus numerous shops, information centre, library and great cinema.

Beautiful cottage in an ideal location, easy walk into lovely Ambleside
We had a wonderful stay in Bluebell cottage. It was a perfect size for our party of two adult couples and one infant. The cottage provided everything we needed.
The cottage is perfectly situated with gorgeous views at the front of the house. An easy, very short downhill walk into the centre of Ambleside and the hill back up to the property was easy with a pushchair.
Nice cottage, great location
We had a great weekend in Ambleside. Christine was extremely helpful in letting us arrive a little earlier than expected, and the cottage gave us everything we needed. Comfortable and convenient. Five minutes walk into the centre of Ambleside. It was a great base for us to go walking in the Lakes.
Lovely comfortable cottage enjoyed the wonderful view every day
Perfect location can not wait to come back perfect for family or with friends ❤️
Christmas in Ambleside
Just spent Christmas week at the cottage and had a fabulous time. The photos of the cottage don't do it justice, as it's very spacious. We were a party of five adults, and it didn't feel at all cramped, seating in both the dining area and lounge perfect. Really is home from home with all the equipment you could possibly need. Made Christmas dinner for five people, and absolutely no problem - there really wasn't anything we thought we could have done with that wasn't already there. One of the most comfortable and warm cottages we've ever stayed in. Lots of storage in all bedrooms and the heated entrance porch is great for leaving coats and boots. Excellent shower in the smaller shower room, really efficient easily controlled heating and so quiet and peaceful. You really don't need to use the car at all once you're there as easy walk into the village. Parking two cars needed a bit of jiggling about, but that's to be expected in the Lake District. One park guaranteed outside the cottage itself, so that's a bonus, and we always managed to get another one on the Lane. Chrissie so helpful. An amazing cottage, will definitely go back.
Thank you so much Julie for your feedback and lovely comments. I’m so pleased everything was ok for you and we look forward to welcoming you back one day. Happy New Year.
Lovely accommodation. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the cottage. Nice & close to Ambleside.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
The cottage was very comfortable, spacious, and with a great ambiance. We had great autumnal weather and we enjoyed Ambleside and it’s facilities. I would recommend the cottage, and would happily stay there again
Loved it loved it loved it
Wonderful cottage in a brilliant location
Easy access is by car, or by rail to Windermere station which is 15 minutes taxi ride away. The nearest airport is Manchester which is approx. 2 hours away. There is parking for 1 car directly outside the cottage and on nearby streets.
The picturesque village of Ambleside is 2 minutes walk downhill from Bluebell Cottage. The lake ferries are 10 minutes walk away and Windemere town is 15 mins. by car. There are numerous places of interest in the area depending on your interests. You will find arts and crafts houses, cinemas, sailing, rowing, horse riding, beautiful gardens, quad biking and gourmet restaurants all within easy reach. There is a tourist information centre situated in the post office in the centre of the village.
There are a couple of small supermarkets in Ambleside and a Tesco Express. In Windermere, next door to the railway station, is Booths Supermarket which has an extensive range of quality foods. We recommend stocking up there en route to the cottage and shopping locally for top ups. Freddie Garside is the best butcher in the village -you'll find his tiny shop up the road right of the post office and past the pub. There are cash machines in the village and outside Tesco supermarket.
Parking in the village is free, however it is time limited and you will need to display a disc to show your time of arrival. There are some in the cottage and they are also available for free from most shops, information centre and post office. There is jazz every Saturday night at Zeferellis and folk singing twice a week in the Unicorn pub, which is up the road to the right of the post office.
