Detached Villa nearby Agia Efimia, Kefalonia, Greece, 5 min walk to next restaurant, 10 min drive to superb Myrtos beach, quiet, idyllic location
- English, German, Greek
My husband Peter and I live during the winter time in Germany. We love to return to Kefalonia and spend our summer time here in Makriotika, this picturesque little village with unique authentic Greek atmosphere and warm hospitality of the people. We have travelled a lot around the world and our dream has been to return sometime here to this beautiful place and create a Kefalonian holiday accommodation to remember. The project has been designed personally by us with careful consideration of all possible needs of our guests. Though, our aim has been to nest the property harmoniously in its unique wild-romantic environment without changing this. Since then, we concentrate our efforts on improving and enhancing the accommodation over time. Peter is a keen gardener, so he created a magnificent garden surrounding the villa with colourful Mediterranean flowers and local sweet herbs. A magical place to relax! Quite simply, "Our priority,...is Your enjoyment... ! " We invite you to to share with us the Kefalonian experience.

We had a wonderful stay at the villa. A real home from home with everything we could have needed. A lovely taverna in the village and just a 10 minute drive to Agia Effimia. If you are looking for peace and quiet I would highly recommend
Clean and homely
Beatiful situation and well appointed
Beautiful Villa in typical Greek Village above Agia Efimia
From the moment we arrived at Villa Vounaki, and were met by Lisa and Peter, we knew we had made a great choice. The villa is perfect, peaceful and a fantastic location just 10 minutes from the Fishing Harbour town of Agia Efimia on the east and 10 minutes from Myrtos Beach on the western side of the island.
Everything about the Villa was classy with so many different areas to relax. The swimming pool was great with the water a little cold in 1st week of October. However we spent every day exploring different beaches and swam every day and found the water warm. Our favourite beach was Aga Kyriaki, followed closely by Ieoulasiem
We ate out every evening at a different restaurant and made some great choices. The restaurant in the village was excellent for grilled meats. Other excellent restaurants were Pergola, Paradise Beach and the Restaurant on the left after Hotel Odyssey. The resort will be closing down in the next week or so but if you like your holidays to be quieter then don't hesitate with early October- I am going home today with a great suntan after a lovely holiday. .
Gorgeous villa in a gorgeous rural setting.
Beautiful villa in a traditional Greek village. The attention to detail the owners have put into the villa is makes this a truly beautiful place to enjoy a family holiday. The welcome pack left by the owners was a lovely touch. Local taverna was lovely and friendly. Wouldn’t think twice about spending another holiday at this lovely villa.
The best holiday we have had as a family! The villa is perfect, designed with a beautiful view of Agia Efimia cut through hedges of flowering shrubs. Pool and house were immaculately clean. Towels provided. On arrival we were greeted warmly and the owners had provided enough food to last well into the next day. Cooking utensils were of a very high standard and oil and vinegar were provided. The local taverna in 5 mins walk serves some of the best greek food we have tasted and they are so welcoming. Supermarkets and bakeries available in Agia Efimia, local bakery 5mins drive away.
The villa is cleaned mid week and all the bedding and towels changed, the pool is cleaned too. Cannot fault our villa and hosts!
Fantastic week in a lovely villa ideally situated to tour the north of the island.
We stayed in this villa for a week in early June 2018. There was a warm welcome from the owners including a lovely welcome pack for the first evening. The house is well laid out, modern and very clean and beautifully decorated. The grounds are also well designed giving privacy and 3/4 choices of separate outside seating areas. The pool is a decent size and well maintained. There are gas and electric barbecues available outside. The villa is located in a small village and although relatively easy to find getting out of the village may be a little difficult with a large SUV. The villa is set on an elevated site and there are some stone steps from the car park to the villa entrance which should be noted by anyone with mobility issues.
The location is ideal for trips out to all the nearby beaches which have been reviewed and incorporated in an excellent book prepared by the owners of the villa. There are a couple of decent supermarkets in Agia Efemia a lovely marina 10 minutes drive from the villa. Would highly recommend a stay in this villa; you won't be disappointed!!
The closest beach is the famous Myrtos Beach (5 min drive), one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Surrounding Agia Efimia (5 min drive) you will find a lot of small white pebble coves with clear crystal water, ideal for snorkeling. Furthermore, you can rent a motorboat in Agia Efimia and visit the numerous idyllic bays accessible only by boat. A truly unique experience!
Easiest way to come to Kefalonia is by direct flight to the airport of Argostoli (EFL), approx 40km from the villa. If a direct flight is not provided in your country, you can take a flight to Athens and then a connected flight to Kefalonia. Alternatively, you can take a car rental in Athens and drive to the port of Kyllini. From Kyllini there are daily ferries to Kefalonia. We will be glad to assist you by your travel arrangements. Please contact us. A car rental is recommended.
Only 5 min walk to the village square with a friendly tavern with good Kefalonian food and marvelous view, a little cafe with delicious traditional sweets, a mini market and bus station.
5 min drive to the picturesque port of Agia Efimia with little coves and small flint bays ideal for snorkeling, super-market, bakery, cafes, taverns, pharmacy, cash station, car, motorbike and motorboat rental, diving school, ferry to Ithaca.
The village of Makriotika is situated 5km from the picturesque port of Agia Efimia, framed by high mountains, on a height of more than 200m. The Kefalonians call it "The balcony of Pylaros", as it offers, indeed, a fascinating view across the wide valley of Pylaros: the port of Agia Efimia, the sea, the surrounding high mountains and the small traditional villages. Across the water, you can see Ithaca and some days you can even make out the mountains of Peloponnes.
Makriotika is located in the centre of the island, and is thus an ideal base for exploring the island. Here you can taste the flavour of the authentic Greek life. A nice "Platia" (village square), small red-roofed houses with flower-filled terraces, a traditional cafe, a friendly tavern, a mini-market, a bakery, a school and, as in each Greek village, a church. In the summer, the Platia is filled with playing children, native and emigrant Kefalonians and tourists. There are numerous beaches closed to the villa offering opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in the summer.
The location is also ideal for nature lovers and hikers. You can walk for example to Agia Efimia. You will pass through an old traditional village, above the valley of Pylaros and facing Agia Efimia and the sea. Or you can leave the main road and take one of the several paths going through the valley to Agia Efimia. You can also walk to the beautiful monastery of Themata (approx. 4 km) which offers spectacular views. A path from the monastery leads to the top of the wild mountain of Agia Dynati and its new aeolic power park, capable to cover big part of the island' s power needs. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to visit the Bavarian Horse Riding Stables in Sami (approx. 18 km from the villa) and take part in a horse ride, a completely different way of exploring Kefalonia, by following old donkey trails with wonderful views through olive groves and fruit orchards.
