Cottage in Findochty, Moray, Grampian, Scotland - Peaceful Location Directly Opposite Secluded Beach

This beautifully built modern property is directly opposite one of the best secluded sandy beaches in Findochty, and has stunning views of the Moray Firth. In the 1800's fishing was conducted from this natural inlet and this is also where the famous painting 'Home With The Tide' was painted by James Clarke Hook, which currently hangs in the Tate Gallery. The house provides the perfect place for relaxation and unwinding. Spend some time wandering through the historic fishing streets and walk along to the marina to watch it's creel and pleasure boats, then amble up to the cliff tops to take in the panoramic views or even a spot of dolphin watching! There are other beaches within easy walking distance and opportunities to be more active with cycling, golfing and sailing nearby.

About Jacqui

We live in Aberdeenshire and have been holidaying in the area for many years as we have family living nearby. We fell in love with Findochty after spending many family holidays here. Our house is a real home from home for us and we love spending time here. We hope you will enjoy it and Findochty as much as we do.

Why Jacqui chose Findochty

We chose this property for its location as we all love to be beside the sea and you couldn't get much nearer than this! I can watch my kids playing on the beach from the house, they play there in the sun and in the snow! The view is great and I love that it is a very peaceful and calm location which is full of history. It's a great place to re-charge your batteries!

Notes on accommodation: No smoking please. The property has full gas central heating and constant hot water which is included in the price. It is suitable for children and has it's own parking space. 1 well behaved dog welcome (not allowed on furniture) please advise on enquiry as a small cleaning surcharge may be applied. Outside: Small secure outside area to the rear which is suitable for securing outdoor equipment and clothes drying. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, duvets and linen provided, please supply own beach towels. The cottage is cleaned to a very high standard in between guests. Other: Large cupboard under the stairs containing various board and children's games and book exchange. Hanging space for coats and storage area.

Perfect stay at Findochty

We recently stayed at 1 The Hythe Findochty. A truly perfect location with the beach footsteps away and a two minute walk to the pretty harbour. Also very close to the picturesque Portknockie and Cullen. We didn't have to drive far to enjoy all the local tourist spots. 1 The Hythe was very well fitted out and met our every need. The only minor complaint is the mastic surrounding the bath is black and the water doesn't drain away quickly enough when showering, leaving you standing in two to three inches of water. However , we would definitely recommend staying here. x

Location, location, location.

Ideal spot overlooking a small beach and cove that was once a boat building slipway. Easy walking to the only pub by the harbour. Meals available in the pubs conservatory. The harbour is mostly used by pleasure boats and smaller fishing boats and crabbing vessels.

The cottage itself is recently built to match the adjoining properties. So new that you can’t see it on Google Street View. No garden but when you have a grassy area with seating, beside the beach, right across the road a garden is not an issue. The property has all that you need. Comfortable and supplied with the basics. Good WiFi, a supply of games etc. Parking directly outside the cottage.

Lovely cottage with enough facilities to satisfy a smaller family. Only downside was the lack of toilet upstairs and the noisy extractor fan in the bathroom. However this did not affect our holiday in a delightful village where the cottage was placed on the outside overlooking a tiny cove. Loved sitting outside in the tiny bay with a drink on the very warm nights we had. Hoping to visit again we enjoyed it that much!

Excellent accommodation/area

We travelled from Hull which was a long journey. We stayed at the property in May it met all of our needs. I was there with my husband my 78 year old mum and 3 & 4 year old boys. We picked the cottage as it was close to Buckie where we had family and visited them regularly. The accommodation had everything we needed. Very pleasant surroundings high specification furnishings etc. Ideal for the boys playing on the beach opposite the cottage safe area and in sight at all times. The sunsets are beautiful in the evening. We would definitely book the cottage again. The only downside was the lack of mobile signal. There was internet access and use of a landline.

The property is directly opposite a lovely secluded beach which has picnic benches and a BBQ. There are many other sand and pebble beaches within easy walking distance, the largest being the East Beach, 150m from the property, accessed off Duke Street. There is also The Moray Firth Coastal Trail, a walking network of 470 miles of coastline taking in some of the most spectacular Scottish scenery. A section of The Moray Coastal Cycle Route links Cullen to Portgordon and passes through Findochty.


Both Aberdeen and Inverness Airports are approx 60 miles from Findochty. The nearest train station is in Keith approx 20 mins away. The use of a car is recommended. Findochty is on the Aberdeen to Elgin coastal bus route.


Within walking distance there is a restaurant/bar, post office, mini supermarket with off-licence, pharmacy, hairdresser and children's play park (top of Morven Crescent). Buckie and Cullen are approx 3 miles away in opposite directions. They have shops, supermarkets, restaurants, banks, crafts, swimming pool (Buckie). Elgin is the nearest city, approx half an hour drive, with all the usual amenities.

Further Details:

The Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Museum is worth a visit and they are very welcoming and friendly! Baxters Highland Village in Fochabers, is where you can stock up on local produce, see an original Baxter's shop and sample their delicious food hall. Johnston's of Elgin is a must to purchase beautiful Arran, Fair Isle or Cashmere garments, again with a great restaurant. Macduff Marine Aquarium features marine life from the Moray Firth and you can see the divers hand feed the fish. There are lovely walks at the Fochabers Winding Woods and the Bin Hill, nr Buckie to name but a few. For the kids there are soft play centres in Banff and Lhanbryde, a swimming pool in Buckie and a Leisure Centre in Elgin which has a pool with water slides and an ice rink amongst other things. There is also ten pin bowling and a soft play area at Bowl 2000 in Elgin. For Mountain Bikers - check out the Moray Monster Trails in Fochabers!
