About Julia Loudon
We are passionate about Scotland and the beautiful area of Fortingall. It is such a magical place where time seems to slow down to a much gentler pace. We feel very honoured to own a property in such a fabulous area and the large number of returning guests seem to validate our opinion!
Julia Loudon purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Julia Loudon chose Fortingall
The Byre was converted from a former cattle shed in 2007 along with The Stables, The Salmon House and The Granary in a delightful enclosed courtyard setting. Our home is Perthshire and we adore the tranquility of the area and encouraging visitors to share in the magic and enjoy the countryside.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love slowing down from the hectic pace of life associated with work and cities. Fortingall is so peaceful and is a superb base for walkers, climbers as well as for those touring around the Scottish Highlands. The Byre is located within a few steps of the Fortingall Hotel, where guests can eat in the restaurant or relax in the cosy bar.

Lovely clean cottage.
Lovely clean cottage, everything you need, only negative is shower in main bathroom not very powerful. Beautiful village so peaceful. Great night in pub playing live music from the locals. Very friendly, although food was expensive and the wine !! We had fantastic weather for beginning of April, Glen Lyon is beautiful and the cafe and art gallery are great. Beautiful part of the country can’t wait to go back in August.
We spent 4 days over Xmas at the cottage and could not fault it. The cottage is well equipped; clean and very homely. Would definitely recommend and would love to return again.
The Backhouse Family
Thank you! I'm so glad that The Byre was the perfect location for your family's Christmas celebration.
I do hope we can welcome you back to The Byre sometime in the future.
Great beyond all expectation!
Terrific accommodations in a beautiful area of the world. The Byrne was a real joy, perfect in all respects, and we were well cared for by the owner’s representative, Morag. She came to our rescue one night when we had misplaced the house key, and she came without complaint. Words are insufficient to describe our few days in this extraordinary place.
Thank you for your review - I'm so glad that The Byre suited your needs so well while you were in Scotland. Morag is indeed a gem - nothing is too much trouble for her, and we appreciate her as much as the guests do!
Lovely place clean cosy and very welcoming

Wonderful part of the world, so beautiful and peaceful, a tonic to the system just to be there.
The Byre is a very comfortable house for a holiday. Everything you may need is at hand and the surrounding countryside is spectacular, whatever the weather. We were fortunate to have brilliant sunshine and it is hard to imagine a more perfect spot for a few days in the country.
Thank you for your review. It's wonderful when the Scottish weather is kind, and I'm so pleased this enhanced your stay at The Byre.
