About Property Manager
Barry is Head Gardener on a private estate and I am an infant teacher in a tiny rural school. Our 3 children have almost flown the nest! When we met and married 31yrs ago in S.Devon, old-fashioned estate-life gave us an idyllic lifestyle but modern life caught up and change became inevitable. The Midlands offered a little more prosperity and we decided it was time to own a property. Friends moved to Spain, plumping for the Barcelona area after much research. Soon after, we visited and were also smitten - our property search began. We wanted to immerse ourselves in a new language and culture and create a home for the future; we were looking for a real Spanish lifestyle and found it in El Vendrell.

In the winter of 2002/3 Barry made 2 visits to El Vendrell, alone, & on the 2nd he bought our villa – without me seeing it! As soon as I saw it I loved it too. It was obvious what had attracted him to it: the pool, barbecue area, mulberry tree, terraced garden, fruit trees and wonderful views made it a perfect relaxing holiday destination, and its distance from the town & coast would mean only a short drive to shops, beaches & many other places of interest, all set against a backdrop of olive trees & vines. We absolutely love our Villa, for its views and tranquility and everything the area has to offer. Inexpensive flights to Barcelona and Reus airports, both less than an hour's drive from the Villa, adds to its desirability.
What makes this Villa unique
The drive from Barcelona and Reus airports is easy & once at the Villa there is plenty of parking. The private pool, cool mountain breezes, possibility of finding fresh lemons, figs & grapes in the garden & the ability for everyone to find their own private chill-out spot, may make ‘going out’ less appealing but only a 20 mins drive away are activities to suit all tastes from a waterpark, to the Pau Casals (cellist) museum, to pony trekking, to beaches & much more. Leave the car in El Vendrell and take the train to Barcelona or visit the market & buy fresh local fish & shellfish & olives (the tiny ones), visit the wine cellars & taste & buy wine & Cava then, return to the Villa for a barbecue & while away the evening on the terraces watching the sun set behind the hills.

Excellent villa for our family holiday! Everything we needed was there.
We've just returned from a wonderful 2 week family holiday in this excellent villa. Beautifully located on a hillside, with so much space in the numerous outside seating areas that there never seemed to be 9 of us there! The villa grounds are very private so that, although there are neighbours, you are seldom aware of them.
The pool was perfect for adults and children (very safe size for the children and visible from most locations for supervision). We made great use of the variety of good quality, comfortable outdoor seating, the barbecue, outside bathroom, laundry and storage options.
Inside the villa is comfortable, and really well equipped with literally everything we needed. 'I wonder if there's a...... (anything from a corkscrew to an electric juicer)...' and there it was! The kitchen is small but adequate with good quality appliances and an endless supply of hot water.
The 5 bedrooms are comfortable with lots of storage space. The inside sitting area was seldom used by the adults but the children made good use of the TV (we brought a fire stick which proved very useful) for chilling after the pool and before bed, giving the adults some peace and quiet.
The only( minor) downsides we found were that a) the villa is located quite far from shops and restaurants up a very windy road, though there is seldom any traffic. We just did big shoppings each time we were out.
b) there are lots of mosquitoes (maybe worse because it was August?) so I'd advise going prepared with repellents, creams and cover up clothing for evenings.
Last, but far from least, Barry (the owner) is a lovely man, very friendly and helpful, always available by phone and called in a few times to clean the pool and helped with any questions we had (including how to pay our parking fine!). He even booked taxis for us a few times.
I'd highly recommend this villa for a relaxing, self sufficient holiday. We were a party of 5adults and 4 children, aged 5-9, and had a wonderful holiday!

Had a lovely time here. Nice villa, Pool cleaner and villa cleaner are very helpful. Even the neighbours are nice and helped us with the language barrier as we dont speak Spanish. We would recommend to friends and family and would even visit again.

Très bon séjour chez Barry. C'est lui qui nous a accueilli. Un anglais "typique". Vue magnifique depuis la piscine et la terrasse. Mais le calme et le panorama se méritent (8 minutes de montées et descentes dans un dédale de hameaux).
La piscine est moins grande qu'elle ne semble sur la photo, la terrasse n'est pas finie, les deuxièmes sanitaires sont à l'extérieur, pas de lave-vaisselle, l'électricité n'est sûrement pas aux normes. C'est une maison "habitée" mais qui mériterait des finitions.
The region of El Vendrell runs from the sea to the mountains. The ‘Blue Flag’ beaches of Comaruga, San Salvador and El Francàs (on the Costa Dorada, a coast of 7km) are located 3.5km. from the town and 15 minutes by car from the Villa. The beaches are wide and long along the Mediterranean. They are peaceful and the water is clear and warm with a high iodine content – particularly healthy! The beaches offer an exceptional place to enjoy the sun and practice water sports.
A hire car is a must.
Airports - Barcelona El Prat 55 mins by car. Reus 45 mins by car. Gerona 2 hours 30 mins away. El Vendrell 15 mins by car.
By car: El Vendrell/shops 15 min. Coma Ruga 1 of 22 blueflag beches on the glorious Costa Dorada 20 mins stroll along palm-lined seafronts, explore shops and restaurants, play volleyball. Drive no more than 30 mins for wine tasting, ancient fishing village seafronts, castles, small bays. Try the short coastal train ride from ComaRuga to Tarragona, famous for its Roman amphitheatre or keep going to PortAventura water park 1 hour by car.
El Vendrell has a great covered market open each morn. Each Tues am there are extra stalls. Fri am there's a lge street market. There are supermarkets, banks, excellent chemists and lots of interesting shops, bars and restaurants lining the narrow streets, plus great free parking. The Spanish daily routine is different to ours and getting up late, pottering about, then deciding to amble down to the shops does not work - they'll be shut! Its the same in all surrounding towns. Morn shopping 9-1pm tends to revolve around practical needs ie food, plus time for a coffee and pastry in e.g. Jaquelines (our fav. cafe) or a cooling drink on the Rambla (main street of bars and trees). Lunch is between 1pm and 3.30ish, there are notes in the villa about the menus, bars & restaurants & our favourites. Then it's siesta time - by the pool or on a shady terrace, snoozing, reading or chatting, or down to a beach. The shops reopen between 5pm and 8.30pm (Barcelona included)- another opp. for a drink on the Rambla or seafront! Some shops in places such as Sitges stay open until much later. The Spanish eat late (9pm on) and stay up late! Sitges is a fab place to visit, day and night. It has excellent beaches, restaurants and boutique shops; walking along the seafront and up to the old church and exploring the shops, at night is a wonderful experience-can't keep us away. The Fiesta Mayor firewk display, end of Aug, is amazing. There is a regular train service to and from Barcelona-we always use the train. We also take the train from Comaruga to Tarragona. All the beaches have lovely bars and restaurants, not all have shops. We regularly visit Calafell and our uni aged children have enjoyed the nightclubs and kareoke there. Near the house is a bar with pool table and table football-rather too far to walk (30mins) although our teenagers have enjoyed the challenge! Waterparks-Port Aventura along the coast & Aqualeon along the road-both great-look for ticket offers on Net or with Ryanair.

Booking Notes: A £300 refundable damage deposit is to be paid 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. (You may lose your reserved week/s and deposit if this final payment is not received in that time.) The damage deposit is to cover breakages or damages & the cost of any excessive cleaning required after your departure. It will be returned to you, less any necessary deductions. Changeover Day: Saturday is our preferred changeover day. In at 4pm. Out at 10am. Notes on prices: Easter period & May bank holiday week £1125 per week.
