House in St Ives, Cornwall, England - In peaceful meadowns and walking distance to St Ives With its 5 Beaches, cafes and galleries
About Barbara Schofield
My family love Cornwall in the far west of England -- a region noted for its wonderful beaches, dramatic cliff top walks and picturesque fishing villages. We have spent many happy holidays here. We acquired our property, Haulfre in Trowan Farm, after an exhaustive search and believe St Ives and the surrounding area is the very finest and most beautiful part of a very outstanding area. We are journalists and academics leading busy lives so we appreciate this haven of peace and beauty. We love it in all seasons. We have made the house more than the usual 'holiday house' - there are paintings, books, CDs and DVDs available for guests and try to create a special atmosphere of home from home.
Barbara Schofield purchased this House in 2006
Why Barbara Schofield chose Saint Ives
St Ives is a picturesque fishing village in the far west of Cornwall, famous for its perfect beaches and artistic community. The St Ives school of painters were inspired by the natural beauty of the area and the quality of the light. St Ives has many fine restaurants and small boutiques and cafes and is home to the famous Tate St Ives with its contemporary art collections. There are five very lovely beaches one particularly good for surfing - all with beautiful fine sand. From our house you can walk to St Ives across fields and over cliff tops in about 25 minutes. This is an entirely car free route with spectacular views. Alternatively it takes 5 minutes to drive there. Further west is Lands End and a spectacular landscape of cliff views and hamlets with interesting churches.
What makes this House unique
This is an architect designed, detached, very private property with a pretty garden and lawns. It is surrounded by fields and looks out to sea. The sunsets are astonishing and the night sky full of stars. The house is furnished to a high standard with a large well equipped hand built kitchen. A wood burning stove adds a cosy feel to the dining room, and there is full central heating for visits out of season. The master bedroom is en suite and there is an additional bathroom. There is ample room to relax both inside the house on the patio. One well behaved dog is welcome. The hamlet of Trowan is car free, making it entirely safe for children. Haulfre offers a perfect holiday haven in five star comfort -- with easy access to the beaches, villages and landscape of western Cornwall.

Excellent location and a lovely holiday home
All the family loved our stay here. The house is spacious, comfortable, clean and has everything you'll need to enjoy your stay and it's in a very pretty hamlet, with a lovely garden. Perfectly situated to enjoy many walks along the beautiful coastal path or inland. Dog friendly, with many places to visit which the dogs will love too (Porth Kidney a favourite). Even bad weather would not ruin a stay here! We liked the quiet yet stunning location, and the sea views... And thank you for the thoughtful welcome gifts and information pack on places of interest locally, this was so useful.
Thanks for your lovely review! I’m so pleased your family enjoyed your holiday and the house lived up to expectations..
Please do revisit for more sea views and amazing visits and walks in the area. I agree about Porth Kidney (dog friendly all year round..) being a bit of a gem..
Beautiful house in scenic location
Lovely family holiday in a beautiful part of Cornwall. We all enjoyed exploring the area, the coast, the sea and the countryside. The house is very well appointed and was ideally suited to our needs. Having two bathrooms was great. We enjoyed using the wood burner in the evenings. The garden was a lovely sun trap. Thank you

Cozy and quiet cottage
We had the best holiday staying in this lovely cottage! We would highly recommend a stay here. It’s a completely quiet little hamlet of cottages surrounded by fields with walks all around including the coast nearby. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the log fire in the evenings! Thank you Barbara for giving us a holiday we will remember fondly!
Lovely review, Phil,
So pleased you had a lovely time and enjoyed your stay at Haulfre. And it’s certainly the case that a log fire adds a special atmosphere in the evenings when it gets a little chillier. You were perfect guests, do come back anytime...!
A fabulous cottage, well equipped with everything we needed and more. We arrived to a welcome of flowers, wine and Cornish shortbreads which was a lovely treat. The house and gardens were well presented and the location was exceptionally peaceful. The lack of light pollution at night meant that we were privileged to witness spectacular starry skies each evening. Thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely cottage.
Delighted you had a lovely stay at Haulfre, Trowan Farm, Debbie! And very pleased you loved the house and found it a peaceful and comfortable base. You caught some early Spring sunshine I think. Thanks for reminding us of the glorious starry night skies in West Penwith. One of the great pleasures of the area I agree.

We do not provide these as part of your holiday but the St Ives Tourist Information Centre can help you to find the right course for you and to enrol.
